I earned my first two show points on the day I turned eight months old! Mom says this showing thing is very frustrating. She let my breeder take me in the ring, and Mom took one of my brothers. My breeder says I should be winning, and I guess she is right because I did! I beat my two brothers when I had a decent handler!
This show was similar to Des Moines the week before in regards to competitors. The only difference is I had two brothers to compete against. Meet Seb, Sebastian. He lives in Indiana and came up to Purina Farms for the dog show. The two of us look a lot alike in our markings. He has a heavier frame like my brother Grunge. My frame is more like my sister Vara.
Getting photos is hard because Mom is in the ring with me so we rely on others. The week before we had our helper along to take photos. This shot is from Friday. Mom and I are going around the ring together. Most of the show photos have my mom in them since we are really together when we show.
Saturday, we were waiting for the GBGV group to go into the ring and we had someone take this photo of us. Mom prefers to dress so she matches my fur colors when she can.
After earning another second place, we left the ring and I tried to help Mom feel better. She wants to do better for me, but we need more practice.
In the end, all is good because I got my two show points and finally a blue ribbon! Overall, it was a good weekend for everyone. Each of my brothers, Grunge, and Seb, each got two points as well. My sister Vara somehow managed to get four points! It figures, because girls and quiet and sneaky, just like my sisters at home.
A special thanks to my favorite fun sister, Olivia. She came along with us and spent most of her weekend waiting for me to do my thing. We had lots of fun in our hotel room wrestling and stuff and I am so happy she was there. Now we have to find another show to attend, but it isn’t easy since it is hard to find one with enough of our breed to make it worthwhile to go.
My GBGV Life is joining Brianβs Home Blog in the Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
Congratulations to you and your mom, Nelson! You are one very handsome boy!
Thank you. We still have a lot of work to do.
congrats congrats!!! you are da best and we knew it!!!
I need a better handler but I personally am looking pretty good I think.
How fun and congratulations. I did have to laugh at girls being quiet and sneaky.
Have a fabulous Thankful Thursday. Scritches all around and my best to your mom. β₯
It is true. One never knows what they are really up to.
It’s just the beginning of your show career. You just have to learn as you forge ahead. Yep, it is difficult finding those points, especially the majors. You did good and you both looked lovely. XOXO Sparkle
With so few of us showing, majors will be a major problem but we are working on how to get that done as well.
Itβs going to be be very exciting watching your show career flourish
We just want to get my champion title and then we will probably stop. Sports is more fun and we would rather spend our time doing that once I get that CH in front of my name.
Nelson, I agree; your mom needs more practice, and you should be winning. SHe is foing a great job though for the time she has been showing. Remind her of that. My mom was not very good in the ring, but she got way better. Now she is pretty much starting all over with me (and maybe soon to be my sister,Hazel, who is Olive’s sister). When we get going again, you will have more competition in the Midwest! I sure hope you all can make the Nationals. We have our heart set on going. It has been too long without seeing all our friends. We just need to find a ride, because Mom does not drive anymore.
Jimmy Parker
I doubt we will go to nationals. It is a long trip and it is the busy time of year for mom’s work. They need to have it at another location at least every other year to make it easier for people who don’t live in the SE to get there.
You are too cute. Be nice, learning to show is hard work, especially for an owner-handler. Your mom looks great. Congrats on the wins. There were no gbgv at the week of akc labor shows, on the pbgv? and only a handful of them. It was so nice of your sis, Olivia to come and keep you company, especially since you 2 could wrestle and tear up the beds. Hood way to release tensions of the day. Keep up the great work. Strive for Westminster!!!
Westminster would be amazing, but we don’t think that will happen. Who knows, though.
Looking good Nelson! Sounds like you and your Mama will get a bit better at each show!
She needs to keep practicing so she doesn’t confuse me so much in the ring.
A-PAWS! A-PAWS! Nelson you (and your Mom) are AWESOME! And we are glad that the judges saw that! Kudos on getting 2 points and we do hope that you get more points soon! Mom remembers (back a zillion years ago) that the dog our Daddy showed was always competing against their siblings as there were not too many of their breed in our area. He said it was fun to see all the siblings together. We hope that you and your sisters have a marvellously happy week! Purrs Marv
Thank you. I will probably show against my siblings mainly because there are not many GBGV’s around here to show with.
Hooray for you sweet Nelson, I knew you could do it, bravo, bravo, bravo!!! Thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
Now to get the rest of the needed points.
Conformation is so totally different than sports. Your mom will get the hang of it so you can have that title in front of your name and have all the perks that come with that!
Sports will always be our thing, she just wants to try this with one dog so she understands it all.
CONGRATULATIONS! We always knew you were a winner!
I try hard to do things right.
Congrats on getting your first two points! It looks like you did really well.
I’m pretty good but my mom needs more practice.
Congratulations Nelson!
Thank you.
Congratulations, Nelson! Yes, girls are quiet and sneaky, it’s part of the secret society of sisterhood. (Not really, but it sounds good.)
You are such a special breed, you may end up competing against your own siblings, or your breeder’s other dogs, quite often it sounds like.
Most of the time I probably will be with my siblings or there won’t be any other GBGV’s to compete against in our area.
Bravo and congratulations, Nelson. Well done! π
He can do great things with the right handler!
