The Meramec River is just across the highway from the Drury Inn where we stayed while in St. Louis for the dog show at Purina Farms. Saturday night we were tired by still wanted to get some exercise before retiring to our hotel room for the night.
Mom had looked at the area we were staying online and found what seemed to be a nice trail along this river. It is just over a mile from our hotel, and the front desk told us it was a safe place to walk.
We had dinner, rested a bit and then headed out just as the sun started to set. The light was very pretty as we walked along.
Surprisingly, we found quite a few people out walking and biking on a Saturday night. It is a pretty and peaceful place to walk.
There is a tower not far from the parking lot with some quotes on it. We like them as they are true for us since we love to walk and run.
As we came around a corner to some ball fields, we saw four deer. They stopped to look at us. We looked at them. Mom took photos of them. They are pretty tame and Mom is happy we didn’t bark or howl at them.
The Meramec River is very calm and there is also a place for people to go down to the river’s edge to go fishing. We didn’t go down there because Nelson needed to stay clean. Looking at the river from up on the high bank is all we could do.
Meanwhile, back at the hotel, Nelson and I did some bed wrestling. Mom came around the corner and caught us. Somehow she always knows when we are getting our wild pants on!
We sleep mostly on the bed, but Saturday night the chair in the corner was quite popular. Nelson is looking cute as he sits in the chair.
I fell asleep in the chair with my ear on the armrest. We love Drury Inns for so many reasons and it is always fun when we travel somewhere we can stay in them.
We are joining our friends at Living Laughing and Barking in Our Backyard is for their Nature Friday blog hop.
We saw deer scampering off the last time we walked. They are such beautiful animals. You guys sure do live the best life!
We just love to have fun and see the world if we can. These deer were pretty tame, so I guess they are used to people and dogs.
oooh 4 deer? wow that’s a lot … maybe they wanted to see the future champion pups?
There was a younger one too, but it was off on its own.
Looks like a beautiful walk.
Perfect after a long day at the dog show.
Wow, I am surprised you did not try to chase after the deer. I have so many deer, herds of them, even have had babies born in the dog pen in front of my house. Can’t stand them, very destructive, eat everything. Plus they carry ticks and other diseases. I have had 2 killed by coyotes in my fields and 1 near my house. If the deer and wild turkey are around, means no coyotes. I love to see pics of you and Nelson wrestling and getting your wild pants on. Looks like this was a nice place to stay, near the showgrounds. You guys just might need to get a travel rv with all of the traveling you do.
Deer do create problems, that we do know. They are beautiful to see, though. We sure do love to wrestle. Mom is always having to break it up because she says we are over the top with it. As for and RV, won’t ever happen. Mom loves her hotels because she doesn’t have to clean or do anything with them but close the door and leave. She also loves to drive fast and an RV isn’t much for fast travel. We will continue to travel in the car.
We Love! Drury Inn too β because of your recommendation. What an awesome walk you took. Nice work staying clean!!!! your friends Chester and Lilly
Mom starts to forget about the staying clean thing after a day or two, but Nelson managed to stay pretty tidy. We love it when we are in an area with Drury Inns. Even the older ones are nice and up to date inside.
An evening walk along the river after a dog show, a sighting of deer, and then a super comfy and dog friendly room for the night. As Molly says, you guys are indeed living the best life.
Gail scratched her head when she read ‘Meramec River’ and said Nobby, that rings a bell. The cogs in her brain turn slowly these days but she eventually remembered a weekend float trip along the upper waters of the Meramec, in the Ozarks, when she was working in Oklahoma in 1989. The river was beautiful in the spring sunshine with the dogwoods in bloom, but unfortunately the most memorable aspect of the weekend was that she and her friends ended up sharing the campsite, deep in the woods, with the Springfield Mo chapter of the KKK, and they had to listen to racist songs being sung and to witness a cross being burned late at night at the campsite. Gail’s American friends were mortified spent all the next day apologising to their British guest about the incident.
Oh my goodness that is a good turned terrible memory and experience. Yes, this is the same river as we were right there by the Ozarks. It is a beautiful area! It’s amazing you know about that river.
Oh, dear times 4! I’m impressed you did give voice! That hotel looks nice and you both made yourselves at home. Have fun this weekend! XOXO Sparkle
We are all used to hotels and we know the beds are there for wrestling, LOL! Mom was surprised we didn’t bark and howl at the deer, but she was quite happy we stayed quiet.
What a beautiful place. Good looking pups and love the deer. I love your adventures with mom.
Have a fabulous day and weekend. Scritches all around and my best to your mom. β₯
We always love a good adventure and we never expected to see a bunch of large deer on the walk.
The Meramec River….fun to look at, fishing is good in many spots. Swimming in it is DANGEROUS!!! So glad you had to stay clean. Mom told me she has lost more than one friend, and also several classmates and neighbors over the years to drowning in that river. The currents are very treacherous – even for strong swimmers.
We like Drury Inn too! And… wild pants are just the ticket after a day of showing. You two have the life! I’m glad you like Purina, because that is where we mostly show now.
We are not into swimming, so no worries about going in the river. Even if Nelson wasn’t showing, Mom would not want wet dogs when traveling. We did go to the beach in Florida last winter, but that was planned and it was so hot out, we dried in no time.
That sure is a nice place for a river stroll and boy, your hotel room sure looks nice!
Drury Inns are usually pretty nice. Mom doesn’t want to stay at flea bag hotels anymore!
That looks like a lovely place to walk and meditate!
We did the walk, but forgot about meditating.
Golly Gee I’m so happy I was able to take this walk with you.
I hope fall weather stays with you all a long time so we can take more walks.
Hugs Cecilia
PS please tell Mom I have the Sandwich post going up on next Tuesday
Tasty Tuesday at your blog! We will be walking all year, just different seasons and scenery.
that was definitely a pretty place to walk. You should have gone over to Purina’s corporate headquarters (right near where you were), they probably would have let you walk around their beautiful campus!
Hmmm, we didn’t know there was more. Next time. BTW, we will be heading to MI, the Detroit area in November. Maybe we can meet up. Not sure where you are in the Detroit area but we can email.
What a beautiful walk…and those deer are so cool. I don’t know if I would have stayed so quiet!
xoxo,
Rosy
PeeEss – Mama wishes there would have been more Drury Inns in California…Seems most of the La Quintas have gone down hill since Wyndam bought them π
The LQ’s are not what they were, sadly. Drury is a really nice chain still.
Moms are smart in that knowing what you’re up to way.
What a lovely walk! I like those quotes, too.
Thank you.
