What happens when you have a perfect sniff day? Mom and I found out Sunday when I sniffed perfectly. For Mom it has always been a dream to be perfect, but it hasn’t happened to us until now!
Twenty nine Elite teams competed at the Phillippo Scout Camp in Cannon Falls, MN. The trial was a total of four searches, two in the morning and two in the afternoon. Two of the searches were indoors, two outdoors. Remember, at Elite level we don’t know how many hides there are. It can be unknown, a range, or a number. At the end of the day, there were sixteen hides and Team Orange found all of them! Only two teams found all sixteen hides and we were the faster team. Yes, we took first place!
I have been third place before, but never first. Mom has always wondered what first place would be like because you not only get a pretty ribbon, they give you a tin with all the hides from the day inside of it. We also earned a third place in the first search of the day. Many teams struggled in that search, only three passed. One of the five hides was about seven to eight feet up on a tree. I found that one no problem!
Mom knows I am good, but we didn’t imagine winning first place as there were a lot of really good teams participating. We are both over the moon excited! On the way home, we went to the Three Dog Bakery to get some special treats for me and my siblings to celebrate! Sniffing isn’t hard for me, but choosing the right chews is a tough job!
In the end, I decided on some beef chews for everyone. They were in a bin way up high, but I could smell them from down low. My siblings may not be as excited about the Team Orange victory as Mom and I are, but they do love celebration chews!
Sunday was super windy in the afternoon. Getting a good photo outside at the camp was pretty tough because the ribbons kept blowing around. This photo of me and Mom on our perfect sniff day is the best we could do. It will be going on the wall with other important sports moment photos. I have several more Elite trials coming up, and we are super excited to see what else we can do! Mom promises to call finished sooner, so maybe we can get some more search placement ribbons. I really do love nose work, and everyone that sees me in action can sure tell too.

We had a good feeling all day. Our first search had 3-5 hides, so when we found 5 we knew we found them all, and there was an afternoon search with 3 hides and we found those but the other two were a range, so we didn’t know for sure. It was a good day and we had a lot of fun. We also knew after finding the one in the tree that a lot of people didn’t pass that search, but we didn’t know only 3 did! Mom is so very proud of me and I continue to love this game. Can’t wait to sniff again this weekend!

It is amazing because we only dreamed about it at this level. They set so many tough odor puzzles, usually dogs fall into a trap at least once, but I did not this time!

It is! I mean in other levels you only get a title if you are perfect, but at this level it is rare to be perfect and the goal is points. 100 points sure is nice, though.
