There are a few bright spots from our not so stellar barn hunt weekend. We went on Saturday with high hopes and expectations and left with our tails between our legs. It happens. We can’t be amazing all the time, but it was just a bad day overall for us pups and our mom.
Saturday was in the single digits with the windchill, so it was nice to be inside all day but other than that it was not so nice. Olivia, Nelson, and I each had two runs on Saturday. Sunday I had one run, Olivia had one, and Nelson had two.
Nelson started off the day with the first disasters. He was so excited to get into the ring, did his tunnel and climb and then nothing. Mom says it was like he forgot why he was there. No Q’s for Nelson on Saturday. Mom was disappointed as he could have earned his title with three Q’s out of his four runs.
Olivia was up next. She too was excited to get into the ring but then refused to find rats. Olivia wants a reward for every rat she finds when she finds them. In barn hunt, there is no rewarding in the ring. Thus, Olivia often goes on strike.
Mom was out of sorts for some reason Saturday. I had a nice Masters run for fun but Mom got disqualified because she kept stepping over a bale of straw. It is not allowed. She has never had a problem in the ring ever, but now she has. My Crazy 8’s run also turned to disaster because she forgot our game plan – tunnel, climb, then find rats. I lost my points because I didn’t tunnel. Just not our day! Sleeping is the best thing one can do on such a day.
Sunday, Olivia started the day with her search and she did find three of the four rats. Progress, but Mom says it was a bit like pulling teeth to get her to tell about the rats.
I was next, and we had so much fun in the ring, I was even running. First I did my tunnel and climb, then I found three of the eight rats. Yay! I earned fifty points towards my next Crazy 8’s title.
Nelson is the winner in the bright spots of the weekend! In his first run Sunday, he found both rats, tunneled and climbed. Not only did he earn his first Open Q, he came in first place and High In Trial! Not bad for ten months old! His fancy High In Trial ribbon even has his name on it. We hope to do another trial in January with a few practices between now and then.
Mom is always an optimist. Despite such a lousy first day, we had a couple really great searches on Sunday and that makes us all happy!
My GBGV Life is happy, so weโre joining Comedy Plus for Happy Tuesday!
We are so happy to hear that Sunday more than made up for Saturday. Well done!
Sunday was a much better day. It’s a good thing to end on the better day too.
wow your brother becomes a famous ratober specialist (we LOVE that name!!! ) and how gut that sunday brought
lots of good moments for you…
Usually that trial is for Oktoberfest and they call it ratoberfest but this year it ended up being later in the year.
You canโt always win. Gotta give the other puppies a chance
Our goal is to take over all the wins but it won’t happen and we are just happy when we can have fun. Saturday was just a bad day, and no one had much fun either.
Some weekends are great and some not so much, but it’s good that Nelson did so well. Adorable your pups are.
Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday. Scritches all around and my best to your mom. โฅ
We are super happy for Nelson, and I’m thrilled to have my 50 pts.
A good team sticks together and rallies from disasters! YOU are all a good team!!
Mom is an eternal optimist, so we will continue to practice and learn to get better.
Tomorrow tomorrow, I love you tomorrow, tomorrow’s a day away! XOXO Sparkle
We were definitely ready for tomorrow on Saturday! Some days are just that way.
No worries dear friends. Your Saturday got off to a no so smashing start with the pp and the shredding.
I give you all high grades for trying!!
Hugs Cecilia
It was that kind of a day where Mom wanted to just go home and hit the bed but we pushed through despite all the issues.
So, we were all set to just leave a one word comment: RATS! However, as all took a turnaround come Sunday …
we’ll change it to CONGRATS! (it still has “rats” in it …) And yes, trying does count.
We often write CongRATulations when people do well in barn hunt. Everyone has off days, our whole family had one Saturday, but Sunday was much better.
Sounds like all in all, at the end of the weekend, things worked out!
Well, not like we had hoped, but at least we got some Q’s and Nelson had a great run.
Well, every weekend has its lessons and bright spots. Good going Nelson!
You can’t be superstars all the time.
Every run might not be a champion run, but it’s still good practice and keeping on is very important. Congratulatuons on keeping going!
It is all about training and experience except for Olivia who just refuses to point out rats if she can’t have a treat for every one she finds.
Hey, off days happen to all of us but you did bounce back nicely!
We haven’t had an off day like that in a long time, thankfully. Nothing went right outside the trial either.
Some days are good and some days are less, it’s just the way it is๐บGreat pictures, sweeties! Double Pawkisses from us to all of you๐พ๐ฝ๐
We can’t always be big winners but it was just a bad day all around on Saturday.
Ya’ll are the cutest pups I’ve seen! Those single digits sound awful. It had been cooler than usual here and I’m glad it’s warming up a bit. I don’t like frigid weather. I hope y’all have the best Thanksgiving ever. Stay indoors where it’s snugly warm. Have a blessed holiday, my little furriends!
We’ve been enjoying the cold air as we like it a lot. Now it is getting warm and the snow is melting which is a bummer. Hopefully we will get more of it soon. Happy Thanksgiving to you.
