A visit to Mayberry is definitely a must if you travel to North Carolina! Mount Airy is the actual town where the show took place, and they celebrate their fame from the 60’s in a large way. There are many places to see, things to do, and of course, souvenirs to buy.
Nelson was quite impressed with the old cars and trucks around Wally’s Service Station. This shiny red one is one of his favorites. We think he is interested in tow trucks after our towing adventure on this trip.
The old quad car is quite impressive for a young pup too. They offer squad car tours of the town year round. We did not take one, but it would be a fun thing to do. Things are spread out around town, so it would be a great way to take everything in.
Wally has another tow truck out back that Nelson found to pose with.
I stopped by the Mayberry Courthouse. They have stones with all the names of the characters around the entrance.
Olivia found the hotel and Howard Sprague’s law office. Little did she know she might actually need a lawyer not long after posing for this photo.
Do you remember Emmitt’s TV repair shop? He could fix just about anything!
Nelson and Olivia got into some trouble for mischievous sniffing and got tossed into jail at the sheriff’s office. They howled loudly for Barney Fife to come and let them out, but he never showed up.
Mom heard the two crazies had been locked up and she rushed over to the jail. The sheriff was not in, so she made some calls to try to get those two kids out of jail.
All ended well. Once the jail birds were out, we headed over to the statue of Andy and Opie. Our navigator caught us in the photo process.
It is a very nice statue of the two of them.
I also have a photo of the plaque from TVLand. It has some nice wording on it, and they put up this statue.
That is my summary of our quick stop in Mayberry, where we could go back to the 60’s for a short time. If you know the TV show, it is a fun place to stop if you are in the area.

What a fun place to visit! We love Andy and Barney and Aunt Bee and Opie!
My mom loves those old shows and her dad was a huge Andy Griffith fan. It was a fun place to visit. We would go back and spend more time to see more of the town and famous places.
What a fun place to stop and visit! Mom watches the show. Her favorite picture is Madison with the statue. Mom just loves Opie and the relationship between Opie and his dad. Chester’s favorite photo is Olivia and Nelson in jail!! Oh my…glad they got sprung! And my favorite photo is Nelson with the red tow truck –Nelson just looks so cute in that photo. Thanks for sharing such a great visit. Great post! Your friends Lilly and Chester
We are glad we got to visit. It was planned to go there on the way to our trials but the flat tire incident cancelled that. Thankfully the weather was nice on our trip back and we made time to stop then. We definitely recommend a stop there if you watch the show. It was a lot of fun.
wow how cool! that is so so so great. we love the trucks and you two in jail LOL
They have two jail cells. We were expecting to see you two in the other one, LOL!
I would have loved that. Iβm a tv child of the 60s. So much fun
It is great! Mom loves those old shows.
Now I know why you posted pictures in jail last week! whew! I was worried!! XOXO, Sparkle
Sometimes we have to leave our friends wondering for a few days, but we got out and all is good.
OHMYDOGS your paws touched all the very same places my feets have touched several times.
Our best friends live about 20 miles. Often when we visit them we also visit Mt. Airy.
I loved Andy Griffith Show.
Thank you for this excellent post.
Hugs Cecilia
If we ever are in the area again, we will hopefully have more time to see other things around town. It is all spread out, but we had a great time and Mom just loved it. The only thing that would have made it better would have been meeting Barney Fife, but he is no longer, sadly.
How fun and a huge awww. I have watched every episode of that show. Good clean fun in a simpler time. What a fun adventure.
Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week. Scritches all around and a hug to mom. β₯
A very simple show in a simple time. We have seen all the episodes numerous times I think.
Wowzers! What a cool place to stop! And what a trip down the nostalgia road for the Peep! Thanks for sharing your terrific stop with us, it is so cool that things like this are still around. Keep being awesome! Purrs Marvelous Marv
The humans were really excited about it. We thought it was fine, but were not as crazy as they were.
That is so cool. Glad the town celebrates it’s place in TV history!
It is nice and there is a lot of history there from that show.
This was fun! Thanks!
A trip down memory lane for many humans.
What a wonderful tour! Mama got all reminiscent and says to tell you thanks for bringing back some fun memories!

It was super fun going to Mayberry. Mom knows that show really well. Maybe CeCe can get you there one day?
That had to be fun to see and it was a fun show. Our Mom and Dad grew up in Don Knotts hometown and the Mom saw Don Knotts on several occassions at her best friends house. Moms best friend was Jarvey Eldred’s daughter and Andy and Barney would mention there good friend Jarvey on the show frequently. Our Dads Grandpa performed in the same Vaudeville theatre with Don Knotts. We miss those simpler times.
How cool is that? Those were simple times, people were respectful and safe and there was no 24/7 mentality. Life has really changed so it was fun to go there and see where that show took place.
That was a fun visit. When i was taking care of Ms. S so much, she watched a lot of TVLand and i used to be there when this show was on at least once or twice a week. Fond memories.
It is a great place for human memories for sure. They have the TV show running constantly in the gift shop. That lady probably has had enough of it, but she was still super pleasant.
I loved the Andy Griffith show! A MUCH simpler and kinder time for growing up
A much better time for all ages we thing. Life has gotten way too crazy these days.
What a charming place to visit and relive days of yesteryear. Glad you guys got bailed out!
Mayberry was great. We recommend it to anyone in the area or that knows those old shows.
this was so much fun! I remember that show, I used to love it. Too bad you didn’t get to eat one of Aunt Bea’s (or was it Bee?) famous pies!!
That is what Gramma said to us. We needed Aunt Bea’s apple pie. Still it was a super fun stop.
