Last week I went back to the vet for my limping problem. I finished my six cold laser therapy treatments and had new x-rays taken to try to see what is going on inside. The best news is that my limping is intermittent and usually only lasts a few steps when it hits me. This makes it more difficult to figure out what is going on.
Mom thinks my limping has diminished a bit. Our vet at TC Rehab said that my x-rays are pretty much normal. They don’t see any damage in my elbow or leg. What may be going on is ankle pain. My ankle was a bit sore at the first exam and it still is tender sometimes. So what do we do and why is it so?
My vet says she thinks it may be the beginnings of arthritis. Geez, I’m only six years old! The way my bones have grown typically cause arthritis at some point. My new treatment program is Adequan. Mom is giving me an injection under my skin every four days for a month to load it up in my body. After that, we are going to see my vet again and my injections will switch to once a month, probably for life. Don’t worry, I don’t even notice the injections and Mom gives me lots of treats after each one anyway.
The vet also recommends putting me on Dasuquin but Mom wants to see what the Adequan does on its own first. At our house we are not fans of medications unless they are absolutely necessary. If Adequan is helping me, then we would wait to add another product until I need one. I’m continuing my lifestyle as in the past except for FastCAT. We are going to wait and see what the vet says next month and then maybe I can enter some FastCAT again. If not, I have my FCAT Title and I have other sports to participate in. Mom has been talking about doing more tracking and that would be a fun alternative for me.
That’s all I have at this point. Let’s hope the injections help me stop limping! I’m thankful I have good doctors to help me figure this all out.

We hope the Adequan helps you out so you’re not feeling any more pain, Madison
At least it is just for a short time now and then right now. We will see if this other stuff makes it go away completely.
wehope there is magic potion inside and it helps you to walk without probs… hugs and crossed paws
I think my occasional limp bothers my mom more than it bothers me, but it would be nice to not limp.
We know pain can be difficult to manage. Hoping you find a great management therapy.
Luckily it isn’t very often or too bad when it happens.
Awww, Madison, we’re feeling your pain, er, your issues. Having just dumped-da-boot from the left ankle we’re now about to see our ortho for the right knee. (this is the hu-mom speaking) Of course, she is older-than-dirt, not a
youngster like you … but anyway, yeah: you’re too young for the arthur-itis, but whatever it is hoping you get it figured out, and that all will find you happily running through spring and summer!
I will definitely not give up my walking and running around, but hopefully we can figure out this problem.
Good news indeed. Keep up the good work, Madison.
Have a fabulous day and weekend. Scritches to the furbabes and my best to your mom. β₯
I’m a good rule follower and pretty well behaved, so I will do alright. Hopefully the injections will start working.
I had a couple of aches and pains when I set off on my walk this morning so you are in good company!
Mom has the same thing but once she gets going everything is fine.
Iβm so sad for you. I think by your next visit you will be ready to start normal activities
I do all my normal activities, but I just don’t know about FastCAT. We will have to see on that.
Paws crossed this does the job!
xoxo,
Rosy and Sunny
We really hope so!
Madison ~ sweet, sweet photos of you and do hope you heal up quickly ~ Xo
Wishing you good health, laughter and love in your days,

I hope this new plan gets my limp to limp away for good.
We are glad this is not too bad, and you aren’t in pain all the time, Madison. All fingers and paws crossed here that the new treatment does the trick! β₯
We really hope so too.
Fingers crossed that all will improve!
We are hoping so.
Your Mom will always find you the best Vets and it sounds like another good one. We hope the problem goes away soon. Thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
It is a tricky problem is seems, so I am glad it doesn’t bother me too much.
I’m just sorry your leg is hurting, and hope the medicine helps. Arthritis is no fun, and it can strike at any age.
A funny story that might make your mom laugh. My Sweetie, age 69, was telling me his knee hurt. He asked, “Do you think it might be arthritis? Is it normal for someone as young as me to get arthritis?”
It was all i could do not to laugh in his face!
LOL, that is a good one. Health issues we don’t want can happen at any age and to anyone, no matter how healthy we are. Health is something we can’t control. We can try to keep ourselves healthy, but you just never know.
harrumph! arthritis? darn it. So glad your mom is on it! Hang in there. keep up the medicine and listen to your mom!!! (our mom said that part). your friends Chester and Lilly
I’m supposed to keep moving and exercise as always just not anything like FastCAT right now, but that is alright. Hopefully these shots will help things.
Sometimes pets can get arthritis when they are relatively young. Carmine has had arthritis since he was six, too. He found cosequin by itself helpful for many years. He is now on a bunch of stuff for his pain, including adequan. I hope the adequan helps you feel better and not have as much pain. <3
Thankfully my pain isn’t really a big issue. It bothers my mom more than me I think. We hope the shots will start helping me stop limping.
Oh Madison, I hope with all my heart that the Adequan injections help! I don’t like unnecessary medications for my pups, either, so I’m with your Mom all the way. Perhaps veterinary acupuncture will help, if you can find the right provider. It helped Ducky with her arthritis – and anxieties. I’d like to get it for myself, but just can’t afford it right now.
We are going to see how the injections work and then modify the plan if needed. At least it isn’t really bad at this time.
Gosh, Madison, Hope it does the trick! limping is not good.
No, I don’t like to limp, but it doesn’t seem to be a simple problem with me.
Hope you get some relief. We went the Dasuquin route and seems to help. Our vet said it’s good to help senior eyes as well as arthritic joints and Elsa has shown marked improvement in that regard.
We will see how the shots work out and then revise our plan as needed. It seems like my limp is not as bad but it is still a bit early to tell.
