The Minnehaha Creek is full, but not running over the banks. Mom and I are quite surprised as all the major rivers in our area are at flood stage and above right now. The good news is that the water level is high since last year it was almost completely dried up.
On the weekend we stopped on our way to Gramma’s house to check out the creek and take a little walk. It was really cold out, but if we are walking, we stay warm.
The rapids on the creek are running high on the rocks. There would be no trouble getting over them now. Sometimes people have to get out and carry their boat over.
Here is the view from the other direction. The water sure looks cold, doesn’t it?
This mallard doesn’t seem bothered by the high water or the cold. He is enjoying just having plenty of water I think.
The creek is definitely wider than normal. We have come here to walk several times when the water covered the path, so this is really not all that high I guess.
Normally we don’t see much water in the swamp, but there is quite a bit now. I figure the creatures who live there are enjoying it.
Mom and I had a nice walk, but it was time to get back to the car and warm up. The creek is full, now we know that. If we want to see flood waters, we will have to look elsewhere!
We are joining our friends at Living Laughing and Barking in Our Backyard for their Nature Friday blog hop.
What a lovely walk, Bailie, and we love that the mallard was having a nice swim for himself.
Our lives seem to be full of mallards these days but they are fun to watch.
we see a lot of water in the creeks and ponds here… do you think there are fishies inside?
There are in our creeks and ponds but we don’t fish.
That was a lovely walk, enjoying the changing of the creek with the seasons
Soon it will be all pretty and green and hopefully still lots of water.
I saw a news report that parts of Yellowstone were closed due to flood potential from all the very quickly melting snow into the water. Thankful that you are no longer in a drought…
Hugs Cecilia
Our drought is gone and now we are under water. Feast or famine is what Mom says.
We have a mallard couple in the creek area behind our office. We enjoy watching them. How is your Gramma? Sorry I haven’t written in a while – I do read all your posts – but it has been very busy in the office and (hopefully) things will slow down a bit in here. I do have good news – I mentioned my Alex passed March 10. Well I adopted another little fellow. He is from a puppy mill, a maltipoo, 10 pounds of snuggles and he is slowly settling in. He was with a foster family for nearly 4 weeks before he came to live with me. The foster family’s daughter named him Bubbles. I named him Buddy and he is recognizing his name. Have a great weekend!!
Huge congratulations on Buddy! We figured you were sad about sweet Alex and just needed some time. We are always here and people come and go as they want. We are super thrilled you have a new fur companion. Alex would not want you to be sad and alone. Gramma is still doing really well, it is so amazing! We are all super thankful for her recovery and health she has right now. Hopefully she will continue to feel and do well for a long time. Have a fun weekend with Buddy!
We saw a lot of flood waters on the news, but we’re glad to hear it’s not flooding where you are. Hope that continues….we’re looking at a lot of rain this coming week, but overall it’s been kind of a dry spring here (we didn’t miss all the mud!). Glad you enjoyed your walk (it’s been chilly here too)!
Lots of water in our part of the country and it is raining again. We need middle of the road for a change.
Full is good, flood is not. All the “extremes” everywhere are not wanted, balance would be best. As always thought, you’ve captured it in lovely images.
Most rivers are flooded here, which is why we found it odd the creek was not.
Thank you for the guided tour of your creek! It looks COLD indeed. How are your mallard eggs doing? immy & Olive
Missy is sitting on them, and Matt is hanging out more. We think maybe the time is getting close, but we really don’t know.
Isn’t it funny how high the creeks get this time of year? We have some high rivers and flooding here too!

Rosy and Sunny
The Mississippi is really flooding bad, but other things are just a bit full. Who knows why.
That was such an interesting post! Thanks for sharing. Looks like it was a great walk– cold but great! your friends, Lilly and Chester
It was pretty chilly and we even saw people in a row boat on the water. Mom said they were nuts!
You are one handsome doggie ~ great photos of you and that rapid creek ~
Wishing you good health, laughter and love in your days,

Thank you.
Full but not flooding is the best, i think.
We don’t know why it wasn’t flooded since everything else seems to be, but we had a nice walk.
You look exhausted. Ihopeit was a fun walk.
I love to walk and we had a good time.
That really does look like an interesting place for a walk though!
It is a very nice woods with the creek and lots of trails.
Gail and I are glad to see you don’t have floods in your neck of the woods. I, Nobby, am very attracted to wading around in swamps and am wondering if any of you GBGV guys do the same? (For some mysterious reason, it’s an activity that Gail seems to disapprove of….)
Toodle-oo!
Nobby.
We are not really into water. If it is really hot out we might go into a lake, lie down, and drink some water, but that is about it. We do walk in puddles sometimes but that is frowned upon by the boss.
