Saturday morning, Mom took me and Nelson to Sunflower Field days at the Green Barn in Isanti. Last year, she took Bailie and Nelson and loved it so much, she had to go again this year. As with last year, we stopped on our way to FastCAT. Getting there first thing in the morning is nice because there are barely any people, so we can get in and out quickly.
One fun thing about this place is how well organized it is and that includes so many photo spots. They plant five crops of sunflowers at different times so they come into bloom one after another. The one behind us is number three and it is blooming now. Next to us is number four which is just starting to bloom. They also place props throughout the fields and move them as necessary. The props are fun, unique, and make for good photos.
Sunflowers start out as nothing but green. I think they kind of look like aliens.
Eventually, they start to slowly open up.
And then, all of the sudden, they are beautiful, huge sunflowers!
Even the bees enjoy the sunflowers. They do mention to beware of bees, and for good reason. Did you know sunflowers face east and then rotate as the sun moves? When they get big, ripe, and heavy, they stop moving and only face east until they are harvested.
If you like music, they have pianos in the field and you can actually play them. We wouldn’t guarantee they are tuned properly, though.
And another one in a different part of the field. It blends in really nicely.
You can take a load off your paws on the benches placed randomly in the rows of flowers.
This bench moves which I find quite scary, but Nelson is not afraid of many things, and he didn’t seem to mind.
Guys like Nelson love the tractors sprinkled about in the sunflower field. He’s a real guy who likes dirt, noise, and machinery.
This is our favorite tractor. Mom really wanted to put Nelson up on the seat, but he is a heavy guy and she was afraid she might drop him trying to get him on the tractor.
No tractor trip is complete without a good, old, John Deere, right? Being green and yellow, it blends right in with the sunflowers.
Mom is happy it hasn’t rained much because this dirt path through the flowers would really make a lot of mud.
There are places where you can get up above the sunflowers. This is one view from a lookout point.
Sunflowers are so pretty, and so happy looking. One can’t help but smile when you see one. They also sell cut flowers as singles or bouquets. We brought Gramma a few and she loves them.
At the very end, we met the sheep and a cow. Of course, Mom needs to have a photo of us with the farm animals.
If you are in the Twin Cities, and would like to see sunflowers, we highly recommend this place. Hurry, though! They are only open until the end of August (the sign is incorrect). Who knows, maybe Mom will go back again next year and take Madison. She says two dogs is her limit, so it is Madison’s turn! The information on this place is on the above sign.
Iβm joining my friends at Living Laughing and Barking in Our Backyard for their Nature Friday blog hop.
We love, love, love all of the beautiful and cheerful sunflowers and the outstanding benches and pianos! You and Nelson are so lucky to have your pictures taken in such a wonderful spot, Olivia!
This place is amazing! It is probably one of the best in our area.
that is so beautiful.. like meeting a group of little suns.. we found some too but in the us all things are much more beautiful and bigger than in da ole europe ;O)
Everything in the USA is bigger, even the flowers, LOL! Mom used to say that to people when she lived in Germany because everything is so small in Europe.
I can’t help but smile when I see sunflowers! What a lovely place to visit. I’m jealous!
It is a beautiful place to go once a year and the flowers to make one smile.
Me too!
Those sunflowers look so cheerful. What a wonderfully fun place to visit. So well organised too. It’s almost as if they devised it in anticipation of having two photogenic GBGV visitors!
Happ Nature Friday.
Toodle-oo!
Nobby.
LOL! People are always busy taking photos there, even early in the morning like we do. You can also schedule a time if you want to do a really nice professional shoot.
What a beautiful and fun place. Om glad you got to see it on a sunny, nice day.
We wouldn’t stop on a rainy day, it would be way too messy! Sunflowers need to be seen in the sun anyway.
First of all Nelson well done on the DCAT!!!
What absolutely glorious sunflowers and the sky is so blue. Give Mom a treat for the up close photos too.
WOW
Fun John Deere fact. When I was working, we had a grad student from Austria. He absolutely loved John Deere tractors. He actually ordered (no clue where) Converse high top athletic shoes in the John Deere colors.
Hugs Cecilia
John Deere is huge around the world! Mom, Emma, Bailie, and Bailie have all been to their home town of Moline, the Quad Cities. They have everything named after John Deere. I bet the company store sells John Deere shoes, but we have never gone there.
what a beautiful and FUN place! These photos are superb and so bright and cheerful! Just what I needed today!
Yay! Sunflowers make for good day brighters π
This is SOOO cool! We love all of the photos. The Sunflowers are so beautiful. Great place to visit. If we lived there we would definitely go too! Awesome post!!!! your friends Lilly and Chester
We think it is the best one around our area and they are so friendly there too.
I think you should scope out the John Deere store – I guarantee there will be photo ops there!!
I don’t know when we will be down there again.
WOW!! We remember these from a post you need last year…..Looks like they have gotten even prettier!!!

We found some new props and the flowers are still gorgeous and happy.
You two look terrific with all those pretty sunflowers, you’re such sweet pups!
Thank you.
What a wonderful place for an outing, and lots of photos! Thank you for sharing these happy pictures.
We love visiting this place. Mom loves the flowers and we love the smells.
That’s a great place to visit. It looks like you had a fabulous time.
It is wonderful and we had a good time even though we didn’t stay very long.
We can’t really think of anything to say today as this place is just so overwhelmingly amazing … every photo charmed us, made us smile … wow, wow, wow!
It is the best sunflower place we know of around our area. Hopefully some of us will get to go again next year.
Wow…just WOW! What amazing fields of sunflowers. And you guys look very sunny and sweet among them. π»π»π»
Thank you. Sunflowers are such pretty happy flowers. You can’t help but smile when you are surrounded by them.
