I brought home some show points from our weekend at Purina Farms. We went to this show last year and I earned my first two points. Our hope was to earn a major and maybe some other points, but was it to be? Purina Farms is a fun place and we were excited to spend three days there with dog events.
Mom is not handling me anymore. She isn’t liking dog shows and doesn’t want to spend the time and money to learn to be a good handler. So…our breeder had some people to show me for her. Friday a friend of ours took me into the ring. Since it is a year since my last show, I was a bit rusty, not bad, but not top of my game either. At least I looked good.
My gait wasn’t the best in my Friday appearance. I was taking short steps rather than extending my legs.
At the end of my turn, I graciously hugged Claire tight to thank her for handling me. I didn’t place or get any points, but it was a good warm up round. It’s no secret, our family is pretty affectionate.
Day two we changed things up. A long time Facebook friend of mom’s from the Netherlands was visiting our breeder. We were staying in the same house for the weekend too. The humans discussed me Friday night and decided to adjust my grooming a bit and let Karin handle me. How cool, I get an international handler! Saturday morning I waited for my turn on the grooming table while Karin and my breeder groomed my competition.
After spiffing up my furs, Karin and I headed to the show ring to try to win some show points. I had more pep in my step Saturday than I had Friday. Boy do I look serious in that shot!
I stood nicely on the ramp while this strange guy put his paws all over me. It seems that is what they like to do but I find it odd. Careful buddy, that kind of tickles!
We did some more prancing around and then stopped to stack me for a short time once again. My handler from Friday was handling my competition on Saturday. In our group, there was a lot of mix and match going on all weekend.
Guess what? I was Winners Dog, so I got two show points for that morning. My international handler, aka new best friend, is pretty good at this show thing.
Day three started similar to day two. Karin touched up my furs for me a little bit and then we went into the ring together. It seems to always start with a tour around the ring perimeter.
Next we get to go up the ramp and let the strange guy paw me. In this photo we both look a bit odd I do think.
After the ramp, these guys like to see us trot to the corner and back. Why? We already trotted for them around the ring? Mom says not to ask questions, just do what I am asked to do, so I do. Look at my eyes! Karin had a treat with her and I really, really wanted to have it. My focus can be amazing for a treat.
While we wait for the guy to decide who is his favorite dog, I had some more good focus on my awesome handler. It is pretty obvious I’m the best dog in the ring, but for some reason, it takes these people a long time to realize that.
Finally the decision was made and I advanced to the next level and ended up earning some show points, two more to be exact with my Winners Dog and Best of Winners wins. Each day I got better, but sadly there were not enough dogs for me to get a major. Now I have six points towards my Championship. I need nine more, two of which must be majors. Hopefully we can wrap up this show stuff next year. I will miss Karin but we have her great tips and we will find another handler for me.
My GBGV Life is happy, so weβre joining Comedy Plus for Happy Tuesday!
Congratulations on your ribbons and points, Nelson! You are sure one handsome boy and we love your smile in the last photo!
Thank you. I like the show thing much more than my mom does, although, I do think sports are much more fun.
congrats!!! you are a super talent… you are a super pawsome boy
Mom is happy I will show with anyone she gives me too and I don’t whine for my mommy. I’m a big boy who is a mom’s boy but I know others will be good to me too.
Nelson I give you 1000 points for an excellent hug to Claire and walking so attentively with Karin
Hugs cecilia
I’m a good boy most of the time and I love hugs and cuddles.
I love hearing the experience through a dogs view. So much fun!
It is a really odd place and the people are weird, but whatever. Dog sports are a bit more normal in my opinion.
Nelson, you looked awesome! So fun to see you strutting your stuff in person. The best news is Karin and the one judge (Nick Frost) know their stuff about GBGVs and you got what you deserved! LOL!
Except we could not beat the professional handler, but we gave it our best and I got more points. Showing is an odd game.
You’re a super star, Nelson. Yes you are. Way to go.
Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday. Scritches all around and a hug to mom. β₯
I do my best and try to win but showing is a strange world.
Bravo to Nelson ~ and awesome photos too ~ Xo

Mom says I’m a hard worker and I am very honest. She is right and I do my best.
Mucsh waiting time at dog shows
So long and boring but this weekend they had lots of things for us to do and Mom could visit with her friends.
Your mama is a sports lady and I know she and your breeder will find a good handler for you so you can get those points.
Meanwhile, congratulations on doing so well after not being in the ring for so long!
Most likely my breeder will show me next time. If we can find enough dogs, things should go well, but it probably won’t be for another 6 months or so.
WOW, after that first day you do look like you were really enjoying yourself. Congratulations on the ribbons and points!
Thank you. Mom says I am a bit of a show dog as I am quite high on myself and I love to be the best and carry my head and tail high.
The show dog thing is a whole other world….but you may find yourself a few girlfriends once you have your Championship (wink, wink)
I love the girls. My sisters tell me to control myself or I will turn them off.
What a handsome and talented fella! Congratulations. π
Thank you. I do my best.
