I love my walks for so many reasons. National Walk Your Dog Month is October 1st – 7th this year. Each of us is going to take a turn talking about why we love walking so much. Being the oldest, I get to start out the week with what I love.
Mom starts walking with each of us the moment we move in here. As puppies we take short walks but we learn that we wake up, walk, then eat, and in the evening we walk again and then eat. It teaches us to work for our meals. Mom is a super, early bird. This means that we are used to being out of bed and on the trails by 6 am most days. This time of year we often walk in the dark. Lots of people don’t like dark walks, but they are our favorite. We rarely see another human or dog, traffic is light or non-existent, and it is so very peaceful.
At our house the rule is no phone usage for Mom when we are walking or running. We carry the phone for emergencies, or a photo, but that is it. Mom’s brain is able to totally focus on the dog(s) she is with and her own thoughts. She tells me it is amazing all the problems she solves with her clear head on walks, and she also gets lots of brilliant ideas. Creativity comes from a mind that is not being filled with stuff from electronic devices.
The four of us never walk at the same time. One or two of us go out with Mom at a time because we are too strong if we all go. Nelson gets passed around, but almost always walks with Madison because she is Miss Manners, and also smaller. For me, the one on one time I get on almost all my walks with my mom it the absolute best time. We always have a great time and it makes our bond stronger. Time with my mom is super precious for me.
I enjoy running into friends on my walks. Humans tend to walk at the same time of day it seems. Sadly, several of my best friends passed away in the past year and I miss seeing them. Mom says that is life as one gets older, but it is a real bummer.
Nelson rarely walks with me because the two of us together is “asking for trouble” according to Mom. We are both avid hunters, big, and strong. About the only time we walk together is super early walks. We both are very loud and tend to wake up the neighborhood if we see a critter…payback for all the fireworks, I say.
Walking helps keep me and Mom happy and healthy. This is my first year of not running and I don’t miss it a bit. Walking burns calories so I can eat snacks and maintain my weight too. It is also a great way to discover new places to walk in the new subdivisions around our house. I love my walks and I recommend them for every dog and their human!

Walkies are fun, Bailie, and I understand about missing your friends that have gone to Rainbow Bridge. It’s hard.
I sometimes see their people and wonder why my friends are not walking too. Friends have always been a thing for me and now I guess I have to find some new ones.
Bailie, you’re so very smart in so many ways. We, too (well, just the Mom, not JUNE!) love to do walkabouts … without “distractions”, like silly phones and such … you are lucky to have such lovely park-like areas to walk through.
We must limit ours to daylight hours, although a nice neighborhood in general, the city streets when dark are not
the best place to walk and wander.
We don’t walk in the dark in strange areas, or places we know could be dangerous. Mom is careful.
We agree with you that early mornings are the best time for long walks. We have a couple of locations that we go to because our Mom says I, (Zachary), bark toooo much and toooo loud to walk within our neighborhood. We would wake everyone up.
Nelson and I do wake up everyone on occasion when we walk together at 4 or 5 am and we see a rabbit. Mom says it is alright because so many neighbors wake us up with fireworks, it doesn’t bother her to let us be loud now and then.
How fun! Great advice, Bailie! Being untethered from electronic devices is VEY VERY good for the brain and creative juices.
It sure is and she even has the sound off to keep temptation at bay.
I love you reasons for walking especially alone time with your mom
In a family with multiple siblings it is extra special time for just the two of us and she loves it as well.
You are so right, Bailie, early-morning walks are great! Especially when you live in a quiet neighborhood!
They are super nice and we can still find squirrels and rabbits with our noses.
Mom knows how to walk with her babies. It’s all about you and the walk. I love it. Working for your food is a good thing too.
Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week. Scritches all around and a hug to mom. β₯
She actually has always run and then eaten breakfast, even before she had a dog, so she passed that on to us and we like it. Trainers say it is good to make a dog do something before a meal, and we definitely do!

OMDs I love my EMW for all the reasons you and mom do. Peace and quiet…just the birds and the breezes to listen too. I go fairly early (well not before 7:30ish) or until the sun is peeping over the trees. I see lots of pups walking their peeps. I love that each of you get your turn.
Looking forward to all the other post.
Hugs Cecilia
Two of us get one on one walks, the other shares with Nelson and that is almost always Madison.
Oh you are such a sweet doggie and so photogenic ~ Great photos and Walks are the best time of day ~ Xo
Wishing you good health, laughter and love in your days,

Thank you. We all love our walks.
Daddy takes me for walks every evening after he eats dinner, they are the BEST time of the day!
Mama takes Sunny on lots of little walks throughout the day, but she has to be careful…
The best walks are those we take on adventures in CeCe though, because it is a whole new set of smells!
Walking is the best!
xoxo,
Rosy
We always love walks when we are traveling as things can smell so different. Hope Sunny can keep doing her walks for a very long time.
Walks are the best ~ having problem with commenting ~ so will try ~ email
This one worked and so did the other. We have had a problem with all Blogger blogs since last week. We can only use Chrome and have to sign up as a blogger account. Who knows!
That was a fun post sweet Bailie and I enjoyed hearing about why you love your walks. It’s nice to have that to look forward to each morning!
It is a wonderful way to start out the day.
Mornings are the best time of the day, I’m glad you get to start your day with some fun and exercise at the same time.
We love starting out our day with walks or runs as it gets our brains and muscles in gear for the day and builds our appetite for a nice breakfast.
We need more people like your mom on dog walks. Around our neighborhood everyone is so focused on their phone screen. It really annoys me they are so clueless about what their dog is doing (and often times their kids too) because they’re checking their phones. My mom wants to scream “put your doggone phone away!” One of these days somebody is going to get needlessly hurt. Why are hoomens so dumb?
Your fur-iend,
Elsa πΎ
Mom didn’t used to take her phone with her but since her heart attack where the phone saved her life, she never goes without it, but it is put away on our walks unless we are taking a photo.
