I had a nice post training walk the other day with my mom. We did a lot of tracking this week since I have a test coming up. Since she recently realized I rarely go for a walk without one of my sisters, this is the perfect time to give it a try. What you see behind me are the nice fields where Mom lays my tracks.
The day we took our walk was cloudy and cool, with occasional sprinkles. The area is very pretty, but with gloomy skies it doesn’t look quite as nice as it did on the sunny day we went tracking in the fields.
It’s Minnesota, so there has to be water and there sure is. Part of the park borders on Marion Lake. Until this week, I had only been to this park one time, so it is new to me as I was a really young pup my other time here. My first visit was my four month photo shoot!
There is also a lot of marsh land between the park and the lake water. The cattails are all exploding, but Mom says not to eat the stuffing. I guess someone in the past must have tried that.
With the odd weather this year, the leaves are not behaving when it comes to pretty colors. Many are still green, some are yellow, and lots are losing leaves like crazy. Mom likes to see lots of bright colors together, but we can’t find that. This tree was the prettiest one we could find.
Since it was a post training walk, we had to carry my forty foot tracking line and harness along with us. Mom sets it down next to me most of the time so she doesn’t forget to pick it up again.
Of course, it wouldn’t be Minnesota without a sign like the blue one behind me, right? Things are so dead and ugly right now, the snow will really brighten things up. Lots of parks have ski trails but it is also a bummer because most of the time, dogs are not allowed on the ski trails. Lucky for me, we didn’t have snow the day I was here!
Iβm joining my friends at Living Laughing and Barking in Our Backyard for their Nature Friday blog hop.
Your autumn colors are just beautiful, Nelson – and that tree – wow!
Mom says the colors are not as nice as usual, but we still have some really pretty trees.
da phenny loves this mom&me time… but da nelly needs his service dog he is very unsure when he is alone… can you still smell the snow in the air or will it need some times?
It will probably be a few weeks before the flakes come down.
Nelson, we loved coming along with you on your post training walk. That does look a pretty area, even if the skies are cloudy. Gail loves cross country skiing but we rarely get the right conditions here. If there are a few inches of snow in Aberdeen, people ski on the golf course and dogs are allowed (tolerated, if not exactly encouraged, Gail says). If I am well-behaved (!) perhaps Gail will invite me to join her on a skiing outing this winter.
Happy Nature Friday!
Toodle-oo!
Nobby.
Mom doesn’t have time to ski, but years ago she did cross country and downhill. We love snow here.
I’m glad you had a fun out n’ about with just you and your Mom. That looks like a fine place!
It is fun to just have the two of us sometimes.
Oh Nelson ~ you are one handsome doggie and lovely nature photos by Mom ~ thanks,
Wishing you good health, laughter and love in your day,

Enjoy your day!
It looks like it was a nice, relaxing walk for after your training, Nelson. We have to take our fall color where we can find it this year, don’t we? It seems like October has been looking like November usually does, mostly drab and dreary, especially with so little sun lately!
We’ve had lots of clouds and also some nasty rain days. It is crazy how many trees are still green.
We like the mix of autumn colors you have! Looks like a nice Mama and you walk, Nelson…we bet there were lots of good smells!
xoxo,
Rosy and Sunny
Tons of great smells, but for some reason I always have to be on leash, so I can’t go hunting.
What a lovely time of year for a walk. Have a wonderful weekend.
It has been really nice for being outside this week. Dry and cool.
That was a nice walk, I hope the colors start behaving soon.
There is mostly yellow or green, red is missing.
My goodness…what beautiful autumn colors. How lucky you guys are to train in such a beautiful setting.
It can be pretty, but this year the vibrant reds are missing.
What a great walk! Such beautiful colors! Sorry we fell behind in reading your posts. Guess what? Mom went on a long road trip and took both of us!! We went to Nantucket!! It was super fun. My big sister was pretty tired but she was okay sleeping at the house after we all took a nice morning walk then mom and I explored the island. I was a really good boy. I even went into the ocean! brr it was cold and moved fast — I went in once, I got out really fast and mom put me on a leash then!! Looking forward to reading your posts this week. your friends Lilly and Chester
How fun for you guys! I hope your mom enjoyed traveling with you two and will do it again. Our mom loves traveling with us, walking at new places, it is so much fun! Olivia got into a trial in Nantucket the first weekend in November, but it is a very long drive and it is expensive there. She got into a trial in IL the same weekend and it is also a super fun venue, so we opted for that. She says one of these days we will go to the NE and also Washington DC. So happy for the three of you having a fun road trip!
Mom and me walks are always fun! Someday, if you get rich enough, you might own a fenced field so that you could hunt off leash, for the time being the long leash will have to do. We have wonky tree colors in Missouri this year too! Most of our trees are green or yellowish, one maple is orange. Our Cherokee Red dogwood is burnt-red/purple – the others are green. Olive and I played fetch with mom in the yard this morning – a rare treat! Fall weather is fun to run in! Good luck to Olivia!
We don’t do fetch. If Mom throws something and wants it back, we let her know she can go and get it herself, LOL! We’d love a huge fenced yard for hunting, but we are happy to have the fenced yard we do have.
Thanks for taking us with you on this beautiful walk, Nelson. You’re such a cute doggieπ»Double Pawkisses for a Happy Week ahead to all of youπΎπ½π
Thank you. I love going for walks.
