Let’s go on a fall swamp walk! I’ve been wanting to take a long walk at Gramma’s house for months, but Mom never has the time. Last weekend, she surprised me and we took an hour and a half walk. It made me so happy. I miss seeing what is going on in Gramma’s part of town. Every season in the swamp trails is different looking and smelling.
Since we had a lot of rain in the past weeks, the water level was up near the trail in many places. If we went off the trail, we had to really make sure we didn’t step into any water. The weather was chilly, so we didn’t want wet paws or shoes. See the water to the left of my tail?
There is one trail that goes off into a more wooded area. For fun we took a walk down that path. The swamp path doesn’t have leaves on it, but the woods path is deep in leaves.
I got to play around on some fallen trees. It is always good to work on things like standing on my back paws and stretching my body a little bit.
Many of the cattails in the swamp are more like fur tails right now. I learned that at this time of year, the cattails dry out and then explode into what looks like fur. The fur is full of seeds. It blows around and gets things set to grow more cattails next year.
Honestly, the whole life cycle of a cattail has me rather stumped!
The fall swamp walk was a lot of fun for me and Mom. Towards the end, I was starting to get tired out. The fresh air and exercise is good for the body and mind, but wears one out too. It was time to head back to Gramma’s house to get some cookies (she always has lots of tasty ones for me) and then take a nap while Mom and Gramma go shopping.
Iโm joining my friends at Living Laughing and Barking in Our Backyard for their Nature Friday blog hop.
We laughed right along with you as you sat on the stump and told your joke, Bailieโบ The trails are so pretty in the autumn!
LOL! Sometimes I am a silly girl but I sure had a fun walk with my mom.
a swamp with cat tails… can we rescue that cats? seems that was the place of a cat-tastrophe :O))) happy weekend to you
It is a cattail catastrophe but a pretty one!
Oh how Gail and I love going on walks with our Nature Friday friends and see more of the places near where they live. Your fall swamp walk was just super – the track with all those leaves looks like it would be fun to run through, and well done on keeping the body limber with those mid-walk stretching exercises!
And bwahah on the ‘has me stumped’ thing – a great visual jokes. But really, you know a lot more that I do about the life cycle of cattails.
Toodle-oo!
Nobby.
We have lots of water and swamps here in Minnesota, so Mom knows a lot about them. Since I’m ten Mom says more stretching is good for me and it does feel good.
You deserved that nap! I live close to marshland. It’s a bit muddy right now because of all the rain we’ve had, but I bet you’d love it!
We are not afraid of mud but our mom doesn’t seem to like it much. The swamp trails can get pretty messy if there is a lot of rain but it has been fairly dry except for some snow recently.
What a great walk and we bet you had a great nap!! have an awesome weekend — your friends Lilly and Chester
I got back to Gramma’s, ate my cookies, drank a bunch of water and crashed for a while.
Sounds like a tiring but fun day.
Mom was pretty worn out that night, but she had walked over ten miles between the four of us, and then helped Gramma all afternoon too.
I would love to walk with you…I love the crunch of leaves under my feets. Bailie you purple harness is lovely.
Hugs Cecilia
I’m a purple lover and the purple girl in the family!
What a nice hike Bailie, it sure is beautiful at the swamp in the Fall!

It was really nice and not too warm either. In the summer there is no shade so it can be really hot walking there.
That does look like a really fun place for a walk and I’ll bet the smells had your nose going!
There are always new and different smells in that area and I love them.
What a fun adventure! I hope you get another long walk with your Mom soon.
I get them around home, but other places not as often.
Looks like a lovely day for a bit of a hike. You must be your Gramma’s favorite, too!
Gramma says I am her favorite and she really is sad if Mom brings another dog to her house, so I almost always get to visit her.
A walk through a swampy area sounds like fun! Glad you were able to enjoy the time at your Grandma’s.
There is always something new to see or smell along that trail. Gramma’s house visits are something I always look forward to.
What a fun swampwalker! Love your posed, especially on the dead tree
Mom and I had a lot of walking fun that day.
