It’s a leg for me! What am I talking about? Why nose work, of course. I’m now at the NW3 level and if you are perfect all day with just one mistake, you don’t get a title, but you get a leg. Two legs, and you have a title. An NW3 consists of six searches during the day, containers, vehicles, interiors, and exteriors, two of those elements have two searches to make the six.
My day was awesome. A lot of my friends had received no’s but Mom and I felt like we were perfect…until…the last search of the day. The HERO Training Center is a business, so people are training there while we are trialing. The final exterior search of the day was an exterior next to the shooting range, which was indoors. I found two hides and was going to work in a third when the shooting started. It was scary loud. Even Mom was surprised at first. I tried a few times to work on that last puzzle, but every time I got started, the gunfire started again. Our day was still perfect, just missing one hide.
Mom and I were disappointed but we did our best. There were twelve hides to find, only two teams found all of them with no mistakes. We placed 10th out of thirty eight teams which we are proud of. I am only twenty two months old and most dogs at this level are at least three if not older. Olivia did her first NW3 trial at twenty six months and earned a leg on that try. I’m a youngster, and I have a lot to learn, but I am good at my job, that is for sure.
Because we are a pretty new team, Mom keeps me searching way too long. Over the winter we will work on our sniffing and she promises to call finished a lot earlier in my searches. The above video is a prime example. I needed, at most half the time she gave me but Mom was not sure I had covered all the desks and chairs well enough. There are zero to three hides in each search, this one only had two and I found them both pretty fast! For a good laugh, listen to the video at 2:44-2:48. For some reason, I let out a really loud burp. I never burp, but I sure did and it is on the video. It gave everyone a good laugh.
Even though I didn’t get a title, I did earn my first two element titles, Interiors, and Exteriors. Team Lime Green may surprise a lot of people, and pups. Mom says I may give Olivia a run for her money soon. I am not a whirlwind like she is, but I am pretty quick and methodical.
Back at home I was completely worn out. It is a lot of work for my brain to find all those hides and to focus all day long. I curled up with a Furballz on my favorite chair while waiting for my dinner. We all turned in early after a fun but long day. I’m excited to see how things go in 2024. All of us are getting our goals together along with a plan to achieve them.
My GBGV Life is happy, so we’re joining Comedy Plus for Happy Tuesday!

Oh, Nelson – we LOVED the burp☺
Mom was so surprised! I never burp and I don’t know why I did that, but it happened.
we boys do that sometimes LOL… you are a super nose worker, that was a really super result..
Thank you. I am really good at my work. Mom is very proud of me but sad we missed that last hide. I will practice over the winter and to even better next year.
We say Bravo! We think you did a very good job, especially with all the distractions … inappropriate guns (awful) and a little burp (delightful) … and the fact is, you’re getting better all the time!
Thank you. I worked really hard all day and I do enjoy my sniffing work. Mom now knows to trust me when I want to leave, I am done, there isn’t anything else to find. She made me search longer than needed in a few searches but we have to get our teamwork nailed down.
BOL BOL BOL Nelson OMDs talk about comic relief well done and keeping the search fun.
Being the only guy at home I hope the sisters have gotten accustom to guy things like burping and scratching
Hugs Cecilia
I don’t normally burp, so that was something totally unexpected! Otherwise, they are pretty much used to me being around, my need to pee on everything on our walks and stuff. I have manners but I am not always as refined as they are.
You did an excellent job, Nelson. You missed that last one, but you tried very hard. Too many distractions. Well done. Tell mom I love the color of her nails.
Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday. Scritches to all the furbabes and a hug to mom. ♥
Thank you. Mom loves bright colors and bright nail polish. It is a shame the guns messed up my last search but I still did amazing for a guy my age.
Nelson – I’ll watch your You Tube tonight – can’t wait to hear the burp!! You are doing great with your trials – we are happy for you and your Mom!
Thank you. I am doing really well and I just love my sniffing sports. We will work over the winter and come back even better in the spring.
Random gun fire is enough to take anyone off their game. A handsome young fellow like Nelson will rise to the top of his class I’m sure.
If it is enough to scare a person, it definitely can scare a dog like me. I don’t care about fireworks and stuff but this was right next to where we were searching and so loud.
Wow you do such interesting work! We’ve never heard of such a program before and all the training that it entails. You look so happy after doing so well. Keep it going and we look forward to hearing more about your progress. 🙂 ~The Ts
We all love our sports but Olivia and I are the super sniffers in the family. Nose work is so much fun and I love the food I get for finding the hides.
You are such a super star. I love it!
I’m in the shadow of Olivia, but watch out, I may sneak up on her before she knows it.
Ya dun good, Laddie!!! Tomorrow is another day!
This is true, but to be so close and to miss one through no real fault of my own is tough. We will regroup over the winter and sniff again in the spring.
Go Nelson!! You are getting better and better and we know 2024 is going to be even better!
xoxo,
Rosy & Sunny
Mom says I’m really good, especially for my age and I hope to get better as I learn more about odor puzzles through experience.
Hooray for Team Lime Green! You did a fabulous job and I’m sorry they started shooting practice in the middle of the searches. You’ll get your second leg next time, I just know it.
I think I will have no trouble passing this level, especially after having some time to work on my skills.
What an awesome search! Yes, guys let it out sometimes!
I have never done that before, but it appears to make humans happy, so I may try that again. My search was really nice but Mom should have called finish a lot earlier.
We you sure did great Nelson. That shooting would distract just about anyone, especially if you’re not quite expecting it.
Mom has never been that close to gun fire either and it was super duper loud. Bummer it ruined our perfect day, but we will learn from it and move on.
