My siblings and I are sharing our 2024 family sports goals with you today. We have all been thinking about what we want to do and accomplish in 2024, and we are now ready to put the goals in writing. Every year we have goals we do our best to achieve, and 2024 is no different. With four of us, lots of sports, and different ages and interests, training is the hard part. It takes a lot of time to keep up on training but we do our best. Being the most crazy sports hound in the family, I’m in charge of this whole thing! Ready, set, go!
Most of the photos in this post are taken by photographers. We purchased the photos for our own use. Some have the photographer name on the photo, some don’t. Any with our blog listed are taken by us. The main photo above is from our favorite photographer, Caprise Adams.
Bailie is ready to get back into some sniffing this year. Her goal is to earn one NW3 Title by the end of the year. She will only be doing local trials since she doesn’t like to travel.
Madison is working hard on training for Elite. Her first and most important goal is to keep her points every trial. If she can do that, she will work on earning her ELT1 Title and possibly earn her ELT2 Title.
Olivia, that is me, the Sniffaluffagus in the family. I hope to earn some ELT-S Titles and finish my other Element Titles for fun, but my real goal is to earn at least one Summit Trial. Hopefully I will get into some of the fun ones that have come up in the schedule. A dog can only do three a year, which is a bummer.
Nelson is moving up the ladder quickly. His goal is to earn three NW3 Titles giving him his NW3 Elite Title. He is a smart guy and should be able to get that done.
Bailie needs Interiors and Burieds in Masters to earn her Masters Title in Scent Work. She will be working on trying to get those two elements done so she has her overall Masters Title.
Madison needs Interiors, Exteriors, and Containers for her Masters Title. She hopes to wrap up the Container Title this month, and she will then work on the other two.
Olivia, I have had my Masters Title for almost two years now, so I will continue to do Detective and work on my Detective2 Title.
Nelson is cruising in Scent Work. He is hoping to finish Excellent Interiors and Buried so he has his overall Excellent Title. He already has Masters Exteriors and Containers, so he will be entering the other two elements along with Bailie and Madison. Mom says she will enter the dog who is working the best at the time to enter.
After the sniffing sports, FastCAT is our next priority. Lucky for us, there is no real practice needed, we simply run and run!
Bailie has arthritis issues, so she isn’t running since she earned her DCAT in 2022.
Madison is on track to get that FCAT3. She is a bit behind in points because of her injury in May 2022, but she will get it. Being short she has a 1.5 handicap which helps.
Olivia is half way to her FCAT3.
Nelson is a little over half way, but to his FCAT. He is excited to join his sisters having that big title with a bigger ribbon!
Oh dear, of all the family sports goals, this is the toughest one. Tests are few and far between, practice is kind of a pain, and I don’t have my certification yet. It really bothers Mom that Nelson and I don’t have our TD (Tracking Dog) Titles. We will work on it probably more in the late spring and hope to get into fall tests. If the winter remains really mild, Mom may try to get me certified in early spring.
Entering Barn Hunt trials is easy, but practice is hard. We have to rent the ring, drive to the school, practice and drive home. It is a low priority in our list of sports.
Bailie has no interest, so she is done. RATS, her Senior Title is her last title.
Madison loves Barn Hunt. Mom feels bad we are not doing a lot of it these days. If things work out, Madison is going to try to finish earning her Crazy 8’s Silver Title.
Olivia – Mom wants me to get my last leg in Senior for my title, so if we practice I will go along. I’m not very into Barn Hunt because we don’t get rewarded in the ring. Why should I find four rats and have to wait for my treats until I’m finished?
Nelson is a mix of me and Madison. Mom thinks she can train him to work longer and get rewarded later. I’ve advised him against that but he is wobbling on the idea.
The Show Ring
Mom tried dog shows, and it was what she expected and worse. Since Nelson has earned six of the fifteen he needs, she hopes to get the chance to finish up his Championship this year. The first problem is finding enough GBGV’s to compete with, and then someone to show Nelson as Mom will not do that again. Stay tuned to see how that goes.
Now you have our family sports goals for 2024. Nothing is too crazy, and we are already busy training for nose and scent work. Now we need to get started, but the season doesn’t start really until March. How about you, goals or resolutions?
My GBGV Life is happy, so we’re joining Comedy Plus for Happy Tuesday!
