I’m a full speed kind of guy, a bit like Olivia. If I am going to do it, I’m charging in and doing it. My list of goals for my year being one was a big one but I met or exceeded pretty much everything. Today I will share some of the highlights of my year being one.
My year started out adding four new states to my list making it a total of seventeen. We traveled a lot more before I turned one. My four new states are Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia, and North Carolina. My sisters already had been to Kentucky, so I took a photo by myself. Hopefully we can find some more new places to visit and I can add to my list.
Nose work is really my favorite sport. I earned my NW1 and NW2 in 2023. In November I also earned my NW3-E and NW3-I Titles. Mom says I’ve gotten a lot faster at my sniffing so maybe I will earn some placements when I am two. Because I’m at a higher level, most of my competition is older with a lot more experience, but I will catch up.
I also dipped my paws into the regular element trials earning my L1V and L1C (Level 1 Vehicle and Container) Titles in May. Hopefully this year there will be more element trials so I can work on those titles. Note on my right side I have a container and a vehicle 😉
My nose rocked the AKC Scent Work sport all year. In March I cleaned up Qing in every search I entered including Advanced and Excellent levels. No one in our family, not even Olivia has done that before! I even earned a first place in Excellent Exteriors and was the only dog to pass the search. Gotta love my nose!
I earned my final title needed for my overall Advanced Title in May. Those darn buried hides are always tough.
Next I hit Masters Level searches full speed ahead in September earning my Masters Exterior and Container Titles. I even earned a second and two fourth places in my Exterior searches. Not bad for a one year old!
Barn Hunt took a back seat while I was one. I did earn my RATO, Open Title, in April. We need to really find time to practice to do well at upper levels in Barn Hunt but we haven’t had the time. In my three Q’s I earned one high in trial and two first places!
FastCAT was a huge priority for last summer since I could finally run. A pup has to be a year old or older to run FastCAT. I earned my BCAT the first weekend I went out. Next I earned my DCAT and I am now half way to my FCAT. This sport is simple, but so much fun! All season my speed kept getting faster and faster too.
September means Purina Farms and the dog show stuff. No one at our house is very thrilled about it, but I want to get that CH for my name. This year Olivia came along with me once again and we got to do some other things in between my showing schedule. We ran FastCAT one day, each of us got our Novice Trick Titles, and I finally got to earn my CGC Title, Canine Good Citizen. It was kind of embarrassing not having that one.
Now it will be back to sniffing competitions for a while, and some FastCAT in the summer. For my birthday, Mom has me in three different nose work classes this week which is so much fun! I hope to start being two full speed ahead like I did being one! My first trial is in a month, and I can’t wait!
