Yes, I am an exuberant sniffing snack monster! Back in February, I did two days of AKC Buried Hides. Of course, I passed all four searches and got my Excellent Buried Title, and my first Master Buried Q. The trial had our favorite photographer, Caprise Adams on the first day. A few days ago, she had them edited and ready for us to purchase. As expected, she captured some great moments of me and Mom.
Both of my Saturday searches were Excellent Buried meaning hides could be in the water or in the sand, and each search has three hides total. My first search was a circle, so off I go, hunting for odor. The judge is watching me from her chair.
Yay! The first hide is in the sand container, and I love to hear, “Alert…Yes”. It means snacks are coming my way and that I am a good sniffer.
Back to work, I have to find two more in this search. It is very important in buried hides not to drop any snacks into the sand or water, or to spill a container. Because of the possibility of a mess, a tarp is laid down to put the “beach” supplies in case of an accident. Hide number two is in this water right here. Every water has the black straws and holders, but only one or two have odor in the straws.
Next I need to get that third hide. Mom was suspicious as I had sniffed it before and didn’t say anything, so I gave her my very honest face, “it really is in this sand, Mom”.
Yes! I’m a super sniffing snack monster and I earned a Q! It is so hard to wait for Mom to get my snacks out of her pouch. My ears fly and carry me up on two paws.
Madison has a really strong core and can stand and walk a couple steps on her back paws, but look at me! I’m standing here on only one paw! Mom and I are having a quick, celebratory conversation after my snacks.
On to search number two. These sand and water containers were in a X shape. Excellent has twelve containers total for a dog to search and find the three hides. And, I’m off, headed for the toy distraction. No worries, I just take a sniff and then get to work.
I think we have a water hide here, Mom!
Yes, I am sure of it, so I give my mom that look and she knows to pay me for my work.
Continuing on my nose leads me to a hide in the sand. Two down, one to go.
I’ve got the last hide in this water! How exciting that I found all the hides again and now I get my snacks!
Oops, I guess I was a bit too much of an exuberant sniffing snack monster, and Mom asked me to sit down. Obedience is not my strong suit, but Mom doesn’t really care much about it either. Sniffing gets me so excited I can’t really sit because I’m too happy. Hope you like my buried hide photos. They are fun to see!

People think I am funny all the time because I get so excited searching I sometimes whine when I am having trouble narrowing the hide down and then I am so over the top excited when I hear the yes, I want my snacks. It is so much fun.
