I finally got to go to a real beach and see the Atlantic Ocean and Long Island Sound! We stopped at the Eastern Point Beach Park in Groton, Connecticut. While we were doing our North East tour day and our navigator found a dog friendly beach for us to stop at towards the end of the day. It is only dog friendly in the off season, so we made it by just five days. Starting Memorial Day Weekend, dogs are not allowed.
There is a big building and lots of giant rocks on the shoreline of the parking lot. Being a rule follower, Madison insisted we read the sign and pose for our photo on the sidewalk. It as super windy and I was smiling because I finally got to see the ocean and soon would have my paws on the beach.
On the way to the beach, Olivia and I stopped for another photo. When we travel, Mom takes care of the two of us because we can be difficult. Our navigator takes care of Miss Manners, aka Madison. Sometimes people wonder when we are separate, and that is the reason. Mom can’t handle three of us on a good day. With her collarbone still healing, she has to be extra careful.
Madison loves the beach, and she loves going into the water. Mom said no swimming because she didn’t want a salt water, wet, hound in the car. This beach is right on the border of Long Island Sound and the Atlantic Ocean. The island out there is Fishers Island. We also saw the Long Island Ferry while we were there. Long Island is also visible from some places at the beach.
Here I am having a look at the water. I was quite interested in it, until a little wave came in and tried to attack me. After that, I would not go near the water. Mom says that next time we go to a beach, she will take me and Madison. We can all get our paws wet together. Maybe I won’t be so scared.
The sand is a lot of fun. I discovered a guy can dig in it. Maybe I can find a treasure like a dead creature or something.
For some reason, the sand is quite smelly, in a good way. It makes me want to dig more and more. The water appears to bring stuff up onto the sand and bury it. I would like to unbury it all, but Mom said we were not staying that long.
Being the end of a long, but fun day of touring, we were all ready to be back at our hotel. Mom didn’t want to spend too much time at the beach, so we took a final photo of “Hounds on the Rocks”. Next we headed back to the car to finish our drive. It was fun to see the ocean, the beach, and to get out and get some exercise after another car day.
My GBGV Life is happy, so we’re joining Comedy Plus for Happy Tuesday!

What a fun place for a visit and yes, wet beach sand does hold lots of stinky smells! You guys sure do get around!
We love traveling and checking out new places but we are not traveling as much right now. Hopefully we will get in another bigger trip later this year.
Glad you got to the beach but you were about 2 hours from me and you didn’t call. I would have come to meet you. Now I roogry
Honestly, the beach was a last minute thing. We had no plans to go to the ocean but as we were driving in Rhode Island Mom asked our navigator if there was a beach in the area and we found this one. We were only there about half an hour and then back to the hotel. Earlier in the day it was drizzly rain and Mom had no desire to go to a beach in that.
Nelson I too am found of the Atlantic Beach….southern part anyway. Never been to a beach north of Virginia
Hugs Cecilia
I like the sand, but am not interested in the water, it was weird.
Thank you for taking us along. Your mom sure makes sure you have lots of adventures.
Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday. Scritches to the pups and a hug to mom. ♥
She wants us to live our best lives whenever possible.
A day at the beach is always fun!
We were only there for about half an hour, but that was good. It was the end of a busy day.
This was a lovely place to stop and meet the ocean. I hope someday you find out just how much fun the water is, as well as the beach.
We are not real water dogs, so I am not sure if I will ever be into swimming, but I do like digging in the sand.
It looks like you were having a fun time Nelson…except for the moving water!
Mama really misses the beach…It’s really funny how strict they are about dogs on the beach on the east coast. One of the only tickets Mama ever got was for bringing a dog on the beach in NJ….The west coast is much more dog friendly!

Mom has taken dogs to lots of beaches on the east coast, but she always checks to make sure they are dog friendly first. Since we are not real water dogs, it has never mattered much if we can’t get to a beach. Her first dog was a water dog and she loved the water in Europe, but that was almost always dog friendly.
What you you all had and the beach has so many good smells, perfect for you sniffing champs!
Nelson was most into discovering what was in the sand. The rest of us have all done beaches before.
Your travel adventures are ‘wagnificent.’ What a great place to explore.
We found lots of fun places on our recent trip.
Just spectacular …
It was fun going to the beach for the first time.
what great scenery and photos! I would love to visit there myself!
It was nice and pretty deserted too.
