I’m hosting a hairdresser vs. groomer post today. Mom and I got this idea the other day when I was on my grooming table. Did you know I love being groomed? I do! My sisters don’t like it much at all. One would think the girls would be more into it, but not my sisters. I actually get upset when other family members are on MY grooming table. Now for the meat of the subject…what is the difference between the hairdresser and the groomer?
- Hairdressers are for humans, groomers for dogs
- Hairdressers have their victims sit in chairs, we dogs stand on tables
- Hairdressers wash the hair on a humans head while groomers shampoo our entire body, and I do mean “entire” body
- Humans have their head hairs trimmed, cut, colored, curled. Dogs, well, we have our entire body cut, shaved, trimmed and tidied up, even our “private” areas which are not private at the groomer
- Humans pay extra for manicures and/or pedicures, but at the groomer, all nails are included
- Aside from young humans, no one poops or pees while getting their hair done, but sometimes dogs do while being groomed
- Humans sit quietly and enjoy their haircut, many dogs squirm and cry the entire time they are being groomed
- Hairdressers don’t clean human ears, or teeth, groomers clean out ears, and brush teeth
- Humans rarely bite or scratch their hairdresser, some dogs bite or scratch their groomer because they are so nervous
- Humans are not put behind bars until their ride picks them up at the hairdresser, but dogs are in cages while waiting for their ride home
Can you imagine trading places for the fun of it. Drop your dog off at the hair salon or take a human to the groomer and see how that goes. Now that would be quite interesting! Hairdresser vs. groomer is something interesting to ponder. They are similar, yet very different!
Have a fun and funny weekend!

We are getting a mental picture of the hoomans trading with us dogs and it’s making us laugh! I haven’t been to the groomer yet but I will get there as my furs grow longer and longer.
It would be pretty funny to trade. I think we dogs would get the better deal in that kind of trade.
oh well that would be a funny thing to exchange the jobs for one day… but I hope no one lands at the groomer woman who gave our whft a poodle cut… all people would look like phil specter LOL
There are lots of bad hairdressers and groomers out there. One has to make sure and find good ones!
What a delightful and amusing post! The comparison between hairdressers and groomers is spot-on and hilariously accurate. It’s funny to think about how different our grooming experiences are from those of humans. Your points had me laughing, especially the idea of swapping places. I can only imagine the chaos that would ensue! It’s also heartwarming to hear how much you enjoy your grooming sessions, even if your sisters don’t share the same enthusiasm. Thanks for the laughs and the great insights into the world of grooming. Have a fantastic weekend!
We were thinking about how similar yet different the salons are for dogs and humans and decided it would make for some good laughs.
That was a fun post and yes, I’d like to see the video of the human at the groomer place!
That would be really crazy!
Great post. I just dropped Clover at the groomer who trims her in her wheels. No cages for Clover.
Mom can hear me howling in the parking lot when she comes to pick me up. I am only in the back for a short time when my furs are finished. Everyone knows I am not happy about it.
Nelson…well my theory is …you live next door to your Girlfriend and you always want to look your best
Hugs cecilia
I like to look hot in case I run into any cute girls 🙂 I’m kind of a girl lover.
What a hoot that would be! My mom used to take one of her dogs to the hairdresser on a college campus. It was called THE MANE LOCATION. They did a better job on the dog than they did on her!
LOL, now that is funny!
All of that is so very true!!! And hilarious to actually think about. Thank you for sharing this!
It is funny and we like funny.
BOL…So very accurate! Luckily, we both don’t mind the groomer…and we are both groomed in less time than Mama spends getting her furs colored and cut at the hairdresser! BOL

We usually need about three hours to get “done”, but it seems like three days. Mom isn’t big into fancy hair, so she only needs about half an hour.
Nelson – you are very observant – and funny!!! The groomer comes to our house and does a fantastic job with Buddy. We are lucky to have her.
Have a great weekend !
That is nice! We could have her come and sleepover at our place since we need a good three hours of work each, LOL! Probably we will have to continue going to the groomer.
Great post – you really made us smile

Thank you. Fun and funny is always nice. Life can be so serious.
What a fun idea! One way they are the same, I could not do either job.
Mom wouldn’t either. She isn’t a fan of even brushing our furs and trimming them up in between spa visits, but she does it. She could never do human hair.
