Mom and I wanted to see the fully rushing Minnehaha Falls, so we stopped on our way to Gramma’s house last weekend. I’ve been there before to see it frozen in the winter, why not see the complete opposite situation? If you haven’t heard Minnesota is underwater with flooding everywhere. Here in Minnesota we’ve had as much as seventeen inches in June alone. Our drought is over but floods abound. The Minnehaha Creek has been very dry the past couple years but this year they have had to shut the locks to keep the water from flooding cities along the creek. I have been to the locks before too. Still the falls is really roaring and we got to see it.
Surprisingly, it wasn’t really jammed with people when we went. We walked right up the the three foot or so high rock wall fence to have a peak. Mom asked me to put my paws up so I could see it, but I decided to jump onto the wall. Thankfully, Mom caught me before I got to that point and pulled me to the ground. It is a steep drop down to the falls. We tried again and this time I did things correctly and got to see the powerful water fall.
Mom thought she should get a good shot of the whole water fall, so she did that next. I didn’t go to Niagara Falls with the family in May. They tell me this is a tiny falls in comparison, but it is still a local, nice waterfall.
We did some walking around to look at the rapids and some other things and landed at the lookout at the top of the falls. That is a crazy way to see things! I made a circle around the area where we stood when looking at the whole falls.
This is a shot of the rapids right before they go over the falls. They are pretty deep and fast moving right now.
Here I am sitting in some damp grass because the water has been creeping up into the grass.

I have one more shot of me with the rapids. This area is pretty with the stone archway the water passes through to the right of me.
Here is a shot of the historic Minnehaha Depot. We walked past it and thought it was kind of cute. This was a fun little stop on our way to Gramma’s house. Now I can say I have seen the falls frozen solid and at flood stage. What a difference! Mom sure kept a tight hold on my leash near the water, it would be super dangerous if I went in!

I don’t know why I thought I should jump up on the wall, but it was a dumb idea. All the water was fun to see.
for us it was a big wild water fall… fortunately you had your mama close to you and attached to your leash … we love the historic depot… it has something very warm and sweet.
It is really running water now, and is fairly big for this part of the country. My siblings were at Niagara Falls in NY in May and said it makes this one look like nothing.
Minnehaha is a fun word to say and a true natural beauty

Mom would never have forgiven herself, but luckily, at my age, my springs aren’t as good as they used to be, so I didn’t make it all the way up.
We are all very glad you didn’t get up on that wall. Falling into fast moving water is very dangerous. The area looks like it has been made into a very nice (and safe) park.
It is a really nice place with lots of trails and pretty things to see.

They are pretty loud. In the winter when they are frozen it is so different. I’m glad I got to see it really running with all the flood water.
I love waterfalls and I love it that your mom takes you to so many wonderful places and then sharing them with us. Thank you for that.

What a fun stop it was on the way to Gramma’s! Even if you don’t like car rides, being places is fun once you get there.
It is tough to decide if going places in a vehicle is really worth it, but usually it is.

It is really fast and full right now. The noise is quite loud with this much water too. Hard to imagine people walk below the falls when it is frozen in the winter.
Beautiful of that gorgeous waterfall and the rapids. You were very brave to get up on the rock. Mom says she would have been terrified of the powerful force of that water.

Mom finds the power of the water interesting. Me trying to jump up on the rock wall was terrifying but I survived and wasn’t able to get up there.
