A super duper, very happy birthday to our really old mom today! Hard to believe, but she is older that the four of us together, now that is crazy old! We love her no matter what. She claims to be stuck at thirty five years old, and we don’t mind. We don’t think she really knows how to act her age and we love that about her. Today we will be on our best behavior, and offer up tons of snuggles, cuddles and kisses.
Do you want to know a few fun fact about the world way back when she was born?
- There was no internet, that means no blogs or social media! How did they survive?
- Cellphones didn’t exist. They had something called payphones, and rotary dial phones.
- TV’s didn’t have cable, streaming, or remotes. You had to manually do everything.
- Seat belts were not required in cars, not for humans or dogs!
- Cameras had something called film and flashcubes, and you had to pay to get the photos developed, weird!
- Most pets were treated more like animals, thank dog that has changed.
- On the positive side, life was pretty safe, much less crime, humans were nice to one another, how odd.
- USPS delivered letters because there was no email. It took days to get a letter with any news.
- Newspapers were the main source of information, arriving once or twice a day, no instant news like today.
- People went shopping at stores, no Amazon to order and have your stuff delivered to your door right away.
Mom says life was much slower, and probably a bit nicer back then, but we have to live in the world we have now. It seems fine to all of us, and we would not be writing this post if we still didn’t have internet!
Lastly we will leave you with Mom’s favorite photo of herself from when she was a year old…yes, black and white photos were common way back then too. We think she is pretty cute in this photo too.
Happy Birthday, Mom! We love you to the moon and back a bizillion times and we don’t care how old you are, you are the perfect mom for all of us. We are a wild, crazy, silly, and happy family!

Happy Birthday! What a cute photo of your mom and my mom grew up with the same stuffs as your mom did!
What a different world it was, but it was a nicer place then she says.
happy happy birthday!!! we remember that time… as a cordless phone was the cats meow… and as we wrote letters to friends what needed weeks… but no bad time after all… and with better muzak….
You reminded Mom of when she lived in Germany for all those years and it cost a fortune to call the US, so she rarely got to talk to friends and relatives over here. Things are so different now.
Happy birthday! Hard to believe that we survived all of that!
Life was ruff for our mom when she was younger.
Happy Birthday to your Mom (Joy)!!! Our mom also remembers those days…. some things really were better, but there are many things better now as well – in a perfect world we would have only the best and kind way of life.
People have changed and that is the biggest problem according to our mom. But overall, life is much easier.
Happy Birthday to your mom!! She might be just as old as my mom. My mom said to ask your mom if she remembers “rabbit ears” on the tv. I said what the heck? Rabbits?? We hope you have a great day celebrating your mom. If she needs help getting up the stairs give her a paw (haha!) your friend Chester
Mom remembers adjusting the rabbit ears before there was cable tv. She also took a 5 inch (not a typo) b/w tv with her to college and it had rabbit ears. Very strange stuff went on back then. Our moms are probably similar in age 🙂
Happy Birthday to your very special Mom! Hey, I remember those “good old days” too.
We are appalled that lots of pets were treated more like common animals. I guess life has gotten easier for everyone!
Happy, Happy Birthday, Mom Joy! Your picture is precious!!! Since our mom is way older than yours, she remembers rabbit ears; and rabbit feet for good luck. She remembers not even having a T.V.! No air conditioning, radiators for heat. Red Goose, and Buster Brown shoes. And some people even still had ice delivered to their homes by the ice man (who also brought milk and butter). And the coal truck making deliveries to neighbors. Your friends, Jimmy Parker, Olive and Lydia
Life has sure changed a lot. Technology has really made life full of convenience too.
Happiest of birthdays to Mom! I don’t know how old she is ( you all kept a good secret) but she sure acts and workouts like she is 18. Agree with all you differences of time but dogs were always treated as a member of the family.
She tells us she is stuck at thirty five, but we know that can’t be, so we just know she is old and that is alright for us.
Happy Happy Birthday to the Best GBGV mom EVER!! I enjoyed the flash backs of back in olden days
Joy your photo is adorable and you are appropriately named
Hugs cecilia
She was a cute baby girl for sure and her hat was cute. Now she will not wear hats, doesn’t like anything on her head.
Live is simpler without all the technology. Things move so very rapidly now. I do love being able to blog and meet friends from around the world.

Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week. Scritches to the pups and a hug to mom. ♥
Technology has good and bad sides but overall, if it is used in a good way, it is a good thing. People have lost respect according to our mom and that is the biggest problem. We have no clue how to turn those folks around.
That photo is adorable! Happy Birthday to your Mama!! I KNOW she is younger than I am!!!!!!!!
And we know she is a lot older than all of us. It doesn’t matter because we like her just as she is.
Happy Birthday to you and lots of hugs ~ you are love by those sweet doggies ~ Wow!

Happy Barkday to your wonderful Mom !
Thank you. We are hanging out with her while she works today.
Happy birthday to your Mom!!! Our Mom would say the same things about when she was born, but she has a feeling she is a lot older than your Mom.
Woos – Misty and Timber
Our mom is stuck at 35, but she is much older than that. This birthday is rough because she can’t believe she is the age she is.
I wish your Mom many, many happy returns of the day!
Thank you. She worked all day but still had a good birthday. She isn’t into a big party like we have for our birthdays.
Happy Birthday to your wonderful mom! 🎉
Your post brought back so many memories of simpler times.
Loved the fun facts about the past!
Your mom’s baby photo is adorable.
Wishing her a fabulous birthday filled with love and joy 🎂
Thank you. She had to work all day, but we hung out with her and she had some fun last night with family peeps. Those memories of the past are pretty crazy. What a different time it was.
A very happy birthday, I too grew up in the days before the Internet, I think we were the last generation to experienced the true innocence of childhood. We’d believe all the tall stories our friends told us through gossip because somebody had told them and it had came from somebody in the know, so it must all be true which kept most of us on the straight and narrow, awww the good old days xxx
It was a good time to grow up, life was pretty safe, very innocent, and fun was simple and creative. The world is different now and one has to adjust.
Happy (albeit belated) birthday to your dear Mom. We hope she had a pawfect celebration!
She worked all day, but we were hanging out with her in our office, so it wasn’t so bad.
