Nelson and I had a GBGV PBGV meet up at Ritter Farm Park on the weekend. Mom got an email from our blog from someone with a PBGV. She wanted to meet a GBGV in person and wondered about meeting up. We said sure and set up the meeting for Sunday. Madison and Nelson were going to go. Unfortunately, Madison couldn’t go, so I got to go instead. The meeting took place at the Ritter Farm Park.
We had hoped the dog park would not be busy because of the heat and humidity, but it was packed. Since both of us are scared of the wild dogs at dog parks, it was decided to meet each other and then take a walk together. Nelson loves girls and the PBGV is a girl, and he also likes other dogs and people. Mom was a bit worried about me as I love mom, but I’m not big on meeting new people or other dogs. Amazingly, when we saw Daphne, we both raced right over and made friends right away. She is so much like us, she fits right into our pack.
We took almost an hour walk. Thankfully there is a lot of shade at the park, but it was still very warm and humid. You can see by this first photo that our tongues were hanging out. Nelson’s tongue almost drags on the ground because it is so long! No worries, we had some water and no one was overheating. Daphne is a bit like Madison in the size department, only even smaller. She is very friendly and enjoys walking like we do.
Here is one more photo of the three of us on the way back to our cars. We were all looking forward to getting the A/C cranked up! Madison and I met another PBGV, Quenton, at a FastCAT in Wisconsin almost two years ago. He was the first one we ever met in the furs. We don’t know if we will meet up with our new friend again sometime or not. Madison would love to meet her, so we will see. Making friends is fun and Mom is shocked that I was so interested in new people and a PBGV!
My GBGV Life is happy, so we’re joining Comedy Plus for Happy Tuesday!

We’ll come back by later … first: adorable photos, but please … identify PBGV for us, thanks!
We are GBGV’s Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen, she is on the far end and a PBGV, Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen. It is mainly the size difference but we also have different body features such as GBGVs have straight legs, longer muzzles, longer ears and are bigger overall in size. The temperament is similar but GBGVs are supposedly more cuddly and other things. It is fun so meet and hang out with a pup who is similar to us.
Aaah, could tell she looked very much like all of you … “petite”, sweet. Thanks!
Daphne is so cute and honestly, for the longest time we thought Madison was a PBGV but now we can see the difference in overall size. What fun for you to meet Daphne, Olivia and Nelson!
We thought she was similar too until she sat next to a PBGV at a barn hunt trial a few years ago. He was a large PBGV and Madison was still bigger. She weighs about eight pounds more than Daphne.
oh how great to meet your smaller cousins… we are always surprised how similar and how different the two breeds look at the same time… the pbgv’s are now popular here for hunting, mostly as a pack…
We are definitely a pack breed. A friend from the Netherlands goes with her GBGVs to France to hunt sometimes. Mom has seen us hunt in a pack in our own yard when a rabbit happens to be found.
I didn’t realize there was such a difference in size! I actually thought that Madison was a PBGV. Have you ever done a post about the differences between the two, and how they were developed?
What a wonderful meet-up! Hopefully you will have more in the future.
Maybe. We will see. She lives over an hour away from us.
Oh what fun a meet and greet in a beautiful park. PBGV…I will google. Daphne is quite cute though and has excellent manners.
Hugs Cecilia
Basically they are like GBGVs only smaller but there are a few differences in the breeds.
Awwwwwwwwwwww Petite BGV…
Such a fun meet up! I do hope you all get to hang out again in the future!
We would love to get to play together some time.
It’s so much fun to meet other PBGV/GBGV people So far I have meet four people in person through Facebook. I’m just waiting to meet you guys.
You never know where we will end up. There is an interesting trial in Delaware in November, but we don’t know if we will enter or not.
It always nice to meet up with new furiends!! Actually, we posted one yesterday where Levi had a playdate in June with a blogging friend!
We don’t know what your blog is anymore. We don’t get notifications and the dakotas den url is for sale?
What a wonderful dog park and you’re all so precious and good looking. I wish I could have walked with you and your mom.
Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday. Scritches to the pups and a hug to mom. ♥
It is a really nice park. The dog park is nice and big but we don’t like all the big dogs that form gangs and chase us, so we walk the trails instead.
Like many others, we also wondered what the difference in the breeds were…and now we know! Daphne is adorable!

If you saw her next to Madison, Madison would look big 🙂 PB’s are pretty cute but too small for Mom. Madison is really the limit as far as small goes for her.
Always great to meet a new friend ~ doggie and owners ~ Ziggy loves to do so ~ Great photos of trio ~ hugs,
Wishing you good health, laughter and love in your days,

We have fun when we meet up with friends. We really liked meeting Daphne and were all friends right away.
You do look like you are meant to be together! Daphne is a cutie. My brother Dash loved meeting other doodles. Mom thinks he could recognize a doodle immediately. And isn’t funny that mom has met two GBGVs-and you all are so unique. She knew someone who had a PBGV but she never met their pup. Great photos and great meet up! Well done you two! your friend Chester
It was fun meeting her and she fit right in immediately. We do know our type I guess.
I’m glad it went so well. It would not surprise me to find some dogs recognize other dogs of their own breed, or similar breeds. We had a black and white cat, Mikey, who always ran up to other black and white cats we fostered and wanted to be friends right away. We honestly think he knew they were like him.
We animals know, just like we can also recognize dogs who are not nice and not our kind and we stay clear of them.
So glad you got to meet a PBGV. We ARE cousins! Mom used to have PBGVs, but they are way more hyper than us laid back Grands; and smaller. Mom like them both, but Grands are her forever favorites! Jimmy, Olive and Lydia
Mom likes the bigger size of the Grands. Madison is bordering on being too small really, but she is still bigger than a PBGV. We are sticking with GBGVs.
How cool to meet up with another dog like your sweet selves. Hope you guys can get together again for a walking adventure.
We hope to meet up another time, maybe when the weather is not so hot.
