This unlikely trio had a rough sniffing weekend at the Minnesota Waldorf School. Despite all the problems, we did manage to find some positives. Mom knew it would be a tough weekend going in so it wasn’t a big surprise. Bailie did Master Buried, Madison Master Exterior, and me, Nelson, Master Interior.
Bailie does really well at nose work at home and she gets really mad if we don’t let her practice with us. Mom decided to let her try Buried Hides last weekend. Mom is an optimist, but Bailie squashed that right away on Saturday. For some reason, she can’t handle the stress of competition. When she enters the search area she just stands there and doesn’t want to move, doesn’t want to find anything, it is simply, impossible. In her last search Sunday, she did find all the hides but she doesn’t tell Mom she’s done, so it doesn’t matter. This may have been her last sniffing trial. Mom says she can’t do it anymore and Bailie doesn’t seem to care.
Out of all the searches, we only took home two Q’s which is very disappointing. I earned one Interior Master Q with fourth place Saturday. My first search I was distracted by a large window when a squirrel passed by. On Sunday, Mom messed up both of my searches making bad calls. I worked so hard and did beautiful work, but we are a team and the other half failed me. We will try again later in the year hopefully.
Madison didn’t do well at all Saturday. Mom says she had no motivation and didn’t even cover the entire search areas being so slow. Sunday she was in top form. People are the motivation for Madison and one of her favorite people was a timer in the search area. She worked her behind off and got a Q in her first search. After that, she was able to get some quick cuddles from her “person” and then went running into the next search, right to the first hide. She found the second and third as well, but she neglected to tell Mom about the third one. It’s a bummer, but Mom is simply happy Madison was on it! Her leg is doing well with the meds, but she is still on rest. A bit of sniffing isn’t a problem.
Not every trial can be stellar, and Mom learned a lot again this weekend about searching with me and with Madison. Onward and upward. We can’t let one weekend get us down.

We are moving on to the next trial at this point. I guess not every weekend can be a winner.
Sometimes these events are just practice; the next ones will be better for you.
It was tough with the judges we had for one thing but for Bailie is nothing new.
Bailie maybe your new pawition should be team Cheer leader.
If y’all have had as much rain as we have the scents are probably saturated. We’ve had 6.8″ since last Friday. 3.5 inch in the gauge this morning and it is still raining. However that being said we have a nice mushroom crop in the front yard.

We went through that rain for months in the spring and early summer. It was not nice.

Nelson and I did. Bailie wanted to go back home from the moment she got into the car.
You have an excellent attitude and next time will be better.
Bailie may just want to practice but not compete any more. It’s okay for her to do it for fun, I would think.
Bailie has never really cared about competitions and it has driven Mom nuts. It is most likely time to give up and let her stay home and do nothing since it is what she wants to do.
That’s the attitude! You are all so used to being superior sniffers, it is normal to have some less than stellar days.
We know, but it is still a bummer.
Sometimes the stars just don’t align and you can’t be perfect all the time, so shake it off and know you’ll do better again in the future. Your attitudes are good so we know you’ll do well when you guys go out again.
We don’t give up, except for Bailie she probably won’t trial again. The rest of us love it.
