Madison was taken from us way too soon. Mom here to break this heartbreaking news. Saturday was a good day for her and I had hope but Sunday the deterioration began. I had her to the ER on Monday morning for help in getting her to eat. She never did start to eat after Friday when she had a bit of food. Tuesday was a rapid decline. The plan was to have someone come to the house on Wednesday as I didn’t want to take her to a sterile environment to end her life.
Tuesday at bedtime, I decided we could not wait for Wednesday as she was in bad shape. We went to the Urgent Care where I held her like a baby with her head on my shoulder under her pink blanket. Nothing goes fast there, so we waited and did all the paperwork while she actually started to settle down and she fell asleep. They went to get the doctor to get the procedure started and out of the blue Madison’s head snapped to the left with her mouth open. I gently pushed it back to my shoulder when I realized she had stopped breathing. The doctor came in and confirmed she had passed at about 9:45 pm. As awful and hard as it is, what a last gift for her to give me. To choose to love me enough to die on her own accord while I held her means so much to me. Our special bond was sealed. She was so sweet and she had more human friends than I ever will. Madison was always my personal Walmart greeter. She has left a huge hole in my heart but just having her in my life for eight years makes this pain all worth it. Her bright, larger than life personality must be needed elsewhere. Until we meet again my adorable, living, stuffed GBGV, pink girl.
Thank you to everyone for the well wishes and prayers, sadly there was nothing that could be done to save her with the cancer she had.
We are all adjusting to our new normal now and we will be taking some time off from blogging and social media. It’s time to process our huge loss and decide how we will move forward with everything. Madison was the boss and that is a big job to fill. I’m sure we will post more about her last days and about her amazing life when we are back. I can’t type much because it is simply too sad right now.
Most of all, despite only getting this angel for eight years, we are happy and so very thankful for every moment we did have. She was a very special little lady hound.
I’m joining Brian’s Home Blog in the Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!

we cry bitter tears with you for your beloved girl… and the date is extra heart breaking… hugs to you… sometimes we have no words… just tears…. a lot…
It is a very hard time at our house right now. Thank you for being our friends.
As you said, there are no words, we have just woken early to see this … the heart hurts, far less than yours. Joy, we send love to you, a gentle hug and now as we cry, say farewell … Ann
Thank you. She left us all way too soon but someone has another plan for her.
I can hardly see to read to the end of your post through the tears. I am so sorry. We loved your sweet Madison♥
Huge hugs to you and to your pups♥
Thank you. We know you know about loss as well. No age is old enough, but Madison was far too young.
Oh no. We are so very very sad. Thank you for sharing her last moments. What a sweet special girl. Just too soon. too too soon. Oh we are so sorry and so sad. your friends Chester and mom
Thank you. We are so devastated. The house seems so quiet and lonely. Mom is so sad. We need some time to get through this loss.
Joy I am so very sorry to read about your precious Madison. She did indeed give you one last gift. I am thankful she was in your arms wrapped in her blanket.
Miss Congeniality
Always on alert for new friends
Did things her way
Incredibly kind
Scent hound
Oh such a loving sis to her siblings
Near and dear to all who knew her
Run free my sweet GBGV friend and keep your incredible nose on alert.
Hugs to you all
Cecilia
She was such a special girl, like no other. Her ability to be so happy with her wagging tail and smile for all the people she met was incredible. We miss her terribly.
Sending hugs and prayers for all of you during this painful time. Madison will always be with you.
Thank you.
I love PBGVs. I at one time had three of these wonderful little dogs. One of them was my “heart” dog. He also only lived to be eight years old. Madison always reminded me of him; I think we must have had a special connection. My heart is breaking for you as I write this while wiping away tears on my cheeks. Life hurts in so many ways, but the good times always abound. I loved Madison and am so very sorry for you and your family. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
Thank you. She was often thought of as a PBGV, but she was a small GBGV that next to a PB was bigger. They are both awesome breeds and eight years is way too young.
I am so sorry for your loss. I won’t say i understand your pain as that would not do justice to what you and Madison (and the rest of your pack). though as i fellow dog lover who has been on a similar journey i do know that is a hard and unique journey each time. I’m glad you had that last good saturday and she gave you her last gift at the end. The two of you were blessed to have each other and even more so because you had the wisdom to know that, embrace it, and share that love.
When i light my candle tonight it will be Madison, you, and your pack in my heart. Sympathies
Each one we lose is different and we grieve differently, but it is still never something that one can get over without a long time to grieve.
Joy, Bailie, Olivia and Nelson, I have no words, just tears to join with yours. We never got to meet your gal Madison but her eyes and smile exuded special. Love and hugs from all of us.
We don’t know how we will have our parties without her silly smile. She is very missed.
So so sad. Iyou need anything , even someone to talk to about this very special girl.
Thank you. We so appreciate you and your friendship.
I’m very sorry for your loss; loosing our furry kids is so devastating. I’ve lost 2 of my beloved dogs ( 1 of them in 2016; the other last May) and I still get emotional when I see their pics and videos. They had brought so much joy & love into my life & for that I’m grateful. Thinking of you during this difficult time & sending you love.
They are with us forever and with time more smiles than tears come with memories but it takes a lot of time.
My eyes are leaking huge tears. So sad. I’m so very sorry for the loss of your precious Madison. Big healing hugs. ♥
It is unfathomable that she is really gone. So young and so fast, there was not enough time to come to terms with it all.
I think I forgot to say thanks for joining Angel Brian’s Thankful Thursday Blog Hop. Hugs.
What a blow!!! But to pass in your arms, such a blessing! Thank you for sharing this sad news, Joy. Grief shared is lessened. Know that she will always be in our hearts and memories. Gentle pats and healing hugs flying to you.
Thank you so much for being a good friend. It is such a very sad time.
i know this might sound odd but i’m so glad that she died in your arms while you were holding her. so are so sorry fur your loss. i know how this feels.
I’m so very happy she did pass in my arms without any help from drugs or doctors. It means so much to me.
I’m so sorry to hear about Madison. I know the pain of the sudden collapse,
I lost my soul cat yesterday. I hope you find peace. I am glad she gave you the gift of crossing on her own.
We are sorry for the loss of your cat. All pets are special.
I hurt for you losing Madison ~ such a smart and precious doggie ~ our fur babies never stay long enough ~ know that you are in my thoughts and prayers and sending you lots of hugs and love ~ ^_^
Wishing you good health, laughter and love in your days,

Thank you. Eight years was far too short.
Take all the time you need, grief like this has so many layers. I’m so sorry for the loss of your special girl. You gave her an amazing life, and the love she gave you was apparent to all of us.
She was really the sweetest little thing and always so happy and looking to brighten the day of others.
My heart goes out to you. I’m so sorry for your loss.
Thank you.
We will miss seeing Madison and her sweet smile but are so very thankful you shared her with us as she grew from the cutest little puppy into the friendliest of dogs.
Hugs and Snuggles to you all,
Rosy, Sunny & Beth
Thank you to you two and your wonderful Mom. Losing Madison is a huge tragedy but we will get through it. She would not want us to be sad for long.
Oh I’m sorry. So sorry. You lost the finest friend and what a gracious parting gift.
Farewell Madison.
It is so very sad.
Once things settle down a bit the many, many happy memories will come. But getting there is the hard part for you and the others.
Yes, it is the first year that is the worst but slowly tears will turn to smiles about the memories.
So, so sorry to hear this sad news. How special for her to die in your arms, as difficult as that must have been. Take care. I’m thinking of you all.
It was a comfort to mom as she doesn’t ever want to decide when to end a life. She told Madison that all day long and in the end Madison filled her wish. It was very peaceful and the best death can be. She is so very missed.
Oh Joy, my heart is sad. Hugs to all of you.
Susan
It is devastating and heartbreaking. Loss is always so hard but with her being so young and this coming out of the blue, it hits really hard. We all miss her so much.
Heartbreaking news. Soft woos and gentle hugs from all of us. It is never easy.
Woos – Misty and Timber
Thank you.
Oh Joy, I’m sobbing at this news and the details. I’m so very sorry sweet little Madison earned her wings. Sending you tender thoughts of comfort. I had hoped you’ve have more time together. She was a very special scent hound. We never get enough time with these precious animals. Hugs to you and gentle ear rubs for the rest of the pack. 💔
Mom wanted just a few days to do some things with her, hang out, stuff like that but she got last Saturday and that was it. Madison was a very special hound, so small but so large in personality. We miss her so much.
Such devastating news. I’m so, so deeply sorry.
Thank you.
I just screamed No!, when I saw this. I can’t stop crying. Madison was such a little cutie, so smart, so sweet, so ladylike. Madison took over the blog for Emma and did a wonderful job. She was a fantastic Vikings cheerleader. I prayed that some miracle would appear. I have lost 3 girls to cancer and it never gets any easier, only harder. I am thankful that I got to meet and watch this little gal in action. Those memories will be with me forever. Her name will always be remembered by all because she is in the history books for all of her hard work. Madison was always an Angel, now she has her Angel Wings. Madison was a ray of sunshine that shone bright into our hearts. Madison and Emma were 2 very special girls that had a very special Mom who loved and adored them. I am so very sorry for your loss.
Thank you so much. We are so glad you got to meet her and see her work and experience her personality in person. It is such a shock for us all and to be so quick makes it really unbearable. She was so special and we are sure she was needed elsewhere more than with us but we sure miss her.
My heart grieves with all of you. Madison was most special.
She was a very special hound with so many friends because of her love of people and oversized personality.
So sorry to hear about Madison but still dealing with my own grief of losing my cat Daisy May on Feb. 13, 2024.
Sorry for the loss of your kitty.
I didn’t know Madison, but I am glad that she died of her own accord, and while you held her. She knew love and happiness, and, since animals live so much by emotions, those are the greatest gifts you could have given Madison. It’s only to be expected that she returned them so strongly.
Madison and mom had a very special bond and Madison was the sweetest hound around. She is missed so much.
Thank you for sharing Madison with us. May you have some comfort in knowing that she was loved by so many 😢💔🌈
She was a real people dog, but most of all we loved her and Mom loved her so much. It is very hard.
My heart breaks for you. Our Lucy will celebrate her 8th birthday in December and I cannot imagine my life without her in it. I know Madison rewarded your training with ribbons, friends, friendship and the love that only a canine pet can give. Some days they seem to know more about us than we know about ourselves. They know when we need a cold wet nose to remind us that we have a constant companion. They know when we need a game of fetch to snap us out of a bad day and they know when we need a lap full of snuggle just because we do. Lucy and I have come to love all three of your GBGV’s and mourn the loss of a blogging buddy. We will continue to lift you up in our prayers as you begin the journey of healing such a sudden and unexpected loss. Love to all.
Thank you so much. Two months ago when she turned eight, we had so many plans with no idea she would not be here. It is so very shocking and heartbreaking. We will find our way with our new pack but she will always be missing.
So deeply sorry to read about the passing of your beloved Medison. We wished you had more time with her. What a purrecious gift she gave you in the end, it teared us up. She really was special. Fly free beautiful Soul✨
Soft Pawkisses to comfort you🐾😽💞
She is missed so much already. We have to figure out a way to move forward without her.
This is my 3rd try leaving a comment. I’m so very sorry to hear about dear Madison, what a sweetheart. She will always be loved and will always be missed.
For some reason your comments are being marked as pending approval. That has happened before, no idea why. Thank you for all the effort to make sure and comment. It is such a sad time, we have not been up for replying to all the comments right away like usual. It creates too many tears.
I’m lost for words. My thoughts are with you.
Thank you. We are heartbroken but life goes on and we will find our way and with time the memories will bring smiles instead of tears.
There just aren’t the right words to express the sorrow in my heart for the loss of dear Madison. She will always be remembered with love.
I am so incredibly sorry to read this news. I’ve really enjoyed getting to know all your fuzzies over the past few years.
I have NO doubt that Madison knows how much you love her. I believe that while she is no longer in her fuzzy body, she IS and always will be here with you. You cannot break a bond that strong. Love is eternal.
Sending lots of love and hugs and purrs.
Sierra, Tylan, and Giovanni
Thank you. It has been a very rough and sad time at our house. Death is a part of life but it is not easy to deal with and we miss Madison so much.
I’m so very sorry to learn that you have lost Madison so suddenly and relatively young. In time you will I’m sure taking comfort from knowing you were able to give her a fine life and an easeful death.
Love and hugs,
Gail.
Thank you. It has been a fast but sad time at our house. We are doing our best to get through it and honor Madison by finding some happy again. She was always a happy girl.
I am so sorry for your sad loss. I found your blog late through my other blog, but I will miss her greatly. Life is cruel, she was far too young. I have tears reading she passed on her terms with her head on your shoulder. cancer truly is evil!
It is so cruel and so fast. We can’t believe she is gone. Mom hears her in the house, we see signs of her when we go places. She is with us, but we still have only tears. Memories will turn to smiles eventually, but the process is slow and painful.
