We had a bit of a New Year’s Miracle at midnight on New Year’s Eve when it was fireworks time. You see, Nelson rarely even wakes up, Olivia doesn’t care much or she may just cozy up more to Mom and keep sleeping. Me, Bailie, what about me? I am terrified. It started when I was around three out of nowhere. I start panting, jump in and out of bed, leave the room, come back, Mom cranks up the TV, I’ve tried CBD, sleeping pills, nothing helps me out.
Why do people have to do this? Mom dreads New Year’s Eve and the 4th of July because I am impossible to deal with and she feels so bad for me. At our house we are in bed at the usual time. Mom had things all set to spring into action when I started panicking at the fireworks. At midnight we woke up to fireworks, Mom grabbed the remote, cranked up the TV and then noticed I was simply lying there, no shaking, no drooling, no panic, almost dozing off to sleep. She turned the TV volume down to a reasonable level and I was still fine.
The fireworks went on for about twenty minutes, then we all went back to sleep. Mom could not believe I wasn’t bothered at all. We do have an idiot who loves noise that lives behind us and he is out of town. His fireworks shake our house and even Mom is almost scared. It is disgusting and so unnecessary, but he loves noise, even his vehicles are loud. Nevertheless, if it was a fluke, so be it, but if I am not stressed about fireworks, it sure would be nice.

We feel for you, Nelson. Molly was terrified like you are and not a thing worked, not even that Sileo stuffs from the vet. Stay close to your mom so that she can hug you tight.
Bailie has been terrified for so many years, it is crazy she just dozed and was completely relaxed. Hopefully it is a new trend.
Well done. You can grow out of it as you get older.
Well, I grew into it at about three, I would love to be out of it and Mom would be thrilled. We shall see if it was a fluke or a trend next time there is thunder or fireworks.
Small wonders, and big thankfuls … hopeful it will be a lasting thing for her.
All of us hope so but it is hard to believe it was even me as it has been many years since I didn’t care.
Happy New Year to all of you! I am glad the fireworks didn’t bother you Bailie! My Buddy ignores them and thunderstorms.
First time is probably eight years. We will see how I do next time there is thunder or fireworks.
Granny made us a Bach Remedy mix and gave us Schüssler cell salts and we both felt very relaxed. We went to bed…or better said…under the bed at 00:02 hours. Glad you felt relaxed too Bailie😸😸🎇🎇Double Pawkisses for a Happy, Healthy and Joyful New Year to all of you. Make it a wonderful year!🐾😽💞
Nothing has worked for me but this year I was calm about it. Mom thought I was dead at first but then she checked and realized I was just sleeping.
Our Jakey used to be the same exact way as Bailie. He also calmed down a lot as he aged. We aren’t sure if it was his hearing, or just mellowing with age.
Whatever it is, we sure are glad to hear Bailie was more relaxed!

My hearing is spot on, so not sure why I wasn’t a wreck but maybe because no one else was. Madison and I were both a hot mess but now it would only be me.
Wonderful that you weren’t bothered by the noise. We share your annoyance with all the loud noises that are totally unnecessary.
That man just loves noise. Mom lets us howl a lot as payback, LOL!
Bailie
I will never ever NO never understand the fascination with fireworks…
Just heard of a horrible display in a neighborhood in Hawaii…where the houses are so close together.
3 dead and some with horrible burns…
Hugs Cecilia
They are pretty to go see if they have a professional setting off pretty things but for home use it is only a danger and nuisance.
That is a wonderful miracle and I’m so glad you got to have a panic-free evening. Thanks for joining Angel Brian’s Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
Mom is especially thrilled and we hope it stays this way but the next thunder or fireworks time will help us see if it continues.
I’m so glad. Maybe you’ve figured out they are outside and can’t get to you?
I remember reading years ago the books Cheaper By the Dozen and Belles on Their Toes, and they mentioned their mom used to hide in the closet with her hands over her ears when thunderstorms happened.
Then her husband, the children’s father died, and she simply stopped being afraid, of everything. Her worst fear was being without her beloved husband, and once he was gone, she had nothing left to fear and she had kids to provide for, so she got up and did it.
Maybe your fear stemmed from losing someone close to you, and you lost Madison, and it didn’t crash the world and you still have you and your mom and Nelson and Olivia, and maybe now you realize it all goes on somehow and you don’t need to be afraid any longer.
That is very interesting, and could be true. The next thunderstorm or fireworks will tell us more but for that one night it was such a wonderful thing to have no one freaking out.
Let’s hope it is related to your neighbor’s absence. then you will know it is a proximity issue.
Well his sonic booms we call them even shake up Mom, so it will really be a test! For now we are happy with one perfect night.
We agree with you-those things are so unnecessary and completely inconsiderate. We had a couple of nights of boomers-it’s a bit easier this time of year because the windows aren’t open. The summertime is just dog-awful.
Windows open or closed never matters, I have been afraid for years. Even TV so loud Mom can’t stand it won’t help me, so this time was really a shock for all of us. Maybe I will give up my fear. We shall see with the next thunder or fireworks how it goes.
