Walk in the winter? Why is January Walk Your Dog Month? We know so many humans that can’t imagine walking their dog in the winter, but why not? Give it a try and you may find you like it. No one said you need to go for a long walk. Simply get out and get some fresh air.
You know our family. We walk in any weather, any time of the year. Yes, our mom may be a bit extreme, but everyone should get out and walk their dog every day of the year. Humans need to make sure they have the right clothing for heat, cold, snow, and rain. We dogs, for the most part, are good with our natural furs.
Remember to stay safe as well. In the winter it is dark out a lot more. We love to take our long walks in the very early morning, so we have our glow collars and Mom’s winter coat has lots of reflectors on it. She has boots, winter shoes, and icebugs to wear depending on the weather. If you are dressed right, a walk in the winter is pleasant. Once we are outside, we always have a good time and we feel so much better when we finish.
What about walking in the summer. We do that too but none of us like it as much as it is often way to hot and/or humid. Still, we are out walking. It is fun to see how different things look as you “walk through the seasons.”
What are some of the benefits of walking your dog?
- Bonding – walking together creates new experiences for you and your dog together. Once you start a walking routine you will both look forward to walking time.
- It’s healthy – dogs and humans are healthier overall if they take their daily walks.
- Mental health – we dogs get to sniff and take in the environment which is enrichment for our brains. Humans also get mental benefits from not having all the technology bombarding during the time you are walking. The mind will be able to think better during and after a walk, provided you don’t use your phone while walking.
There are so many good reasons to walk your dog, we can’t begin to list them all. Now, close your electronic device and get those paws moving!
We are joining our friends at Living Laughing and Barking in Our Backyard is for their Nature Friday blog hop.

We love our winter walks. It clears the head and blows out the cobwebs but only if you’re dressed properly and it’s safe!
Mom says our daily early morning walks are the best part of the day and they get everyone set for the rest of the day too.
we are ok with bad weather and we want our daily patrol… sadly today we had a storm so we do a patrol inside (the mama is at 180 LOL)
We have to go out even in stormy weather. Mom hates rain and getting all wet but she still makes us go out at least for a shorter walk. Hope your weather gets better, but no one moved to mainland Europe for the lovely weather. Mom never liked all the rain in Germany.
We are for walking all year long! In the Winter, we walk in the afternoon(the warmest part of the day). The only time we don’t walk is when it is really windy outside. We have a bunch of sand that blows around and the pawrents don’t want it getting in our eyes.

Rosy & Sunny
You guys are good. We have to go out in wind too, but we love the wind, Mom not so much.
Walking is FREE medicine for the body, mind and soul….of every being.
Hugs
Cecilia
It is something that most people can do, but don’t. It cleanses the mind and is good for the body and soul. Mom does all her best thinking out on our walks because her brain is free to think. Have a fun weekend.
We walk almost everyday. Ours have gotten shorter lately, but we still go out.
Ours get shorter when it is super cold but we still do a good walk. Walking is always fun.
Hat’s off to the brave and not immune compromised! Fresh air is VERY good for us, in very limited doses!
Mom says the weather we have had will freeze and kill anything hanging out in our bodies, LOL!
You look pretty snazzy, but you always do, and I’m glad you are still getting your daily walks in.
We walk until we drop is how it goes around here. Walking in so ingrained in us and our mom, we don’t feel right if we don’t at least get a short walk in.
A good walk with a canine companion is a joy.
Walking is such a wonderful thing to do for so many reasons.
It’s been too cold for us to walk the past couple of days. But we’re hoping to get back on the walking trail again with warmer temps coming next week. Yay!!!
We walk no matter what the temperature or weather for at least 15-20 minutes. It’s going to be warmer here too but it is not what we want. We still want cold and a load of snow. Being winter lovers, we need real winter.
