Droopy Dog may be real after all! Mom has told me since I was a puppy I look a lot like Droopy the cartoon character. Droopy was created by a French artist and he was created to be a hound. He starred in the film Dumb Hounded in 1943. Remember, the GBGV comes from France and we are hounds!
Let’s take a look at some comparable shots. I don’t stand on my back legs like Droopy does but our noses, long ears and hair on our heads do appear to be quite similar. Droopy Dog was created in 1943, making him a lot older than I am. His signature line is, “I’m so happy!” That fits me too as people always tell Mom that I am such a happy guy.
Here are photos of us lying down. Droopy has positions that I can’t do but our head furs do look a bit similar.
Finally I have head shots of us together. Note the slanting of our lower ears, the deep black noses, and the head furs standing on end. The GBGV didn’t become an official breed, even in France, until the 1950’s. Most likely this artist found our breed adorable and since we are also quite funny, he created us in cartoon form as Droopy. That’s my story and I’m sticking with it. Do you agree?

We love your GBGV breed and we think droopy is adorable, Nelson!
Mom has always thought he was so cute and she thinks I look a lot like him 🙂
I remember Droopy! He’s too cute.
Mom has always liked Droopy and when I came along she said she had her own living Droopy.
There is definitely a resemblance between you and Droopy!
I think my mom is right about it.
Nelson I knew from the get go that you had star power, now we know just who.
fun post
Hugs cecilia
That Droopy must be a GBGV and he is fun and funny like me. I don’t know if he is as smart or not.
You are so much cuter.
I’m sure I am a much better guy, but I do agree with my mom that we kind of look alike.
I never even heard of him; but I do think he’s adorable! Just like you, Nelson; and your sisters! 💚💚
Mom remembers seeing him in cartoons as a kid and now and then he pops up online. He is cute and I think we could be related if he was a real hound.
Good ol’ droopy dog! Definitely STRONG resemblance – especially since there is artistic license. I’d vote for YES! Super star! Are you ever going to be a super stud???
No, I’m not going to be a super stud, just sticking with a good all around guy with a lot of sports titles. That makes me happy and the whole show dog thing was so disappointing for me and Mom, we are done with it.
Oh gosh, I DO think you’re right, Nelson! Luckily there’s nothing droopy about your personality.
A resemblance but you are much cuter sweet doggie ~ hugs,
Wishing you good health, laughter and love in your days,

Mom says Droopy is cute and we look a lot alike but she wouldn’t trade me for the cartoon guy, ever!
I agree, but you’re far better looking than Droopy. Just saying.
Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week. Scritches to the pups and a hug to mom. ♥
I’m not too worried since he isn’t real but I do think he is a cute fellow and I really think he is our breed 🙂
We always liked Droopy Dog too so I’d say that is quite the compliment! Oh, you are much cuter though!
He is super cute for a cartoon dog.
You are the best real life Droopy Dog ever!
Awww, thank you. I think we are similar and he is a cute cartoon hound.
