Mom and I wanted to take a nice snow walk along the Minnehaha Creek one last time before the snow melted. We have been walking here for years but it always looks different with different times of the year and precipitation levels. The main trails were no longer snow covered, but the creek down the hill behind me is still frozen solid and snow covered.
This sign was the first thing we saw after leaving the parking lot. I think they forgot to remove it last fall, as we didn’t see any water, not even the creek was wet.
Mom is very careful about walking on ice covered water. Moving water is never real safe even when frozen, and the areas under bridges are not good either. I ventured out just a couple feet from the shoreline for this photo. Mom figured it was safe as it would not be too deep if the ice didn’t hold up.
What you see behind me are the rapids. They appear to be frozen and people are walking there but not us. Mom is too paranoid about bad ice.
Check it out in July 2017, when I was swimming in it! See all the ripples from the rapids? It isn’t very deep and the current isn’t too strong which is why I got to go in.
This is a dock that is normally in the water but is up on shore for the winter.
Once and a while, a girl likes to sit down and rest her paws for a few minutes, or as long as a photo might take.
The main trails are all clear but for a real snow walk we like to take the trampled snow paths through the woods.
Almost back at the car we were down by the creek again and it is still frozen, even under the bridge. We don’t know how much ice there is, but with almost a week below zero, it is no wonder there is not flowing water to see. Our next visit will probably be in the late spring or summer. The place is too messy with melting snow and stuff for us to take walks. It’s always a fun place to come to for walking, though.

Now that snow is gone and it is probably a bit muddy but we had a good time last weekend.

We are not that excited as we are not fans of summer time and spring is a huge, dirty mess.
Bailie, I do not blame your mom one bit for being overly cautious on snow covered ice!!! You look like you are enjoying yourself. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us!

It is always different depending on the season and how much water is in the creek. Sometimes it is flooded so we have to take a different trail.
We are glad you had a lovely snow walk…. Our mom doesn’t do snow. Spring where you are will be lovely when things dry out a bit.
Not a fan of spring. We love the peacefulness of winter and hardly anyone is out and about. In spring you see people for a couple weeks and then not again until next spring.

You still have lots of snow around, we’d still be closed for a week if we had that much snow. Those are fun photos!
That was a week ago, it is all gone now and we have replaced it with mud, yuck!
We’re with you…no ice walking for us. We don’t even like getting too close to water of any form, solid or liquid.
We don’t mind wading into the water on a hot day but Mom is selective about what water is safe for us. Most of the time we ignore it as we are not big into swimming.
