Mom and I went to the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden to find the Spoonbridge and Cherry and see what else they have. I was there with Madison years ago and Mom wanted to go back. It is across the street from the Walker Art Center.
This Spoonbridge and Cherry is a very famous thing for the city. For some reason we don’t have a photo of it from our previous visit. Thankfully it was a pretty cold morning which means we had the place to ourselves. Mom really didn’t want a lot of people in our photos of this sculpture. Can you tell it is an art park just from this silly chair next to me?
The sculpture is made of stainless steel and aluminum. It is 30x13x52 feet in size and was installed in 1988. In 1985 the sculpture was completely repainted and in 2012, graffiti made it necessary to repair and repaint the entire sculpture. The sculpture was removed and sent to New York in 2021 for complete repainting and was returned in 2022 We always love seeing photos of it as it seems so cheerful and now we have our own photos.
Mom and I decided the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, aside from the spoon and cherry is not our kind of place but we still took a few more photos. The art is odd like this thing. I’m standing on a swinging platform.
Then there is this odd bell with a racing rabbit on top of it. Why? Who knows!
There is another bell in an odd location that we found. It was made for a small church in southern Germany but didn’t have the proper tone and was sent to a salvage yard. Now it rings silently here. It doesn’t make a lot of sense, but here it is.
The only other piece of art we like, and there really are not many things on display, is the LOVE sculpture. It is one we can get on board with, and me, literally. Our advice is that it is definitely worth going to this place for the Spoonbridge and Cherry but the rest not so much. We enjoyed seeing the park again but unless we need photos of the Spoonbridge and Cherry, we probably will not be back.

The cherry and spoon make it a worthwhile place to check out but the rest is a bit too odd for us.

It is an odd place but since we were there for the spoon and cherry, we figured we should see all the stuff.

We have never seen the LOVE one anywhere, but interesting it is in Philly too. The main thing was the spoon and cherry which worked out. Everything else was just a bit odd.
Wow, that spoon and cherry are SOOOOO cool! What a great place to walk around and check out. That “Hare on Bell” is a bronze sculpture originally created by British sculturer Barry Flanagan in the early-80’s. It’s supposed to symbolizethe overcoming of life’s limitations, marking the passage of time, and a realm beyond earth. There was one at the Denver Botanical Gardens. It’s interesting if not a bit odd.
They have odd things but some art is way out there. It was still fun and the spoon and cherry were the main focus.

That Spoon Cherry sculpture is pretty cool. Maybe when the trees bloom the rest of the park will be prettier…But we’re with you, unless there are squirrels or bunnies, this wouldn’t be our kind of place either.

Only the spoon and cherry would probably look nicer in the summer the rest of the stuff would still be super weird.
The Spoon and Cherry and Love would be my favorites, too, in fact, probably the only ones I’d want to visit. They are certainly cheerful.
They are the reason we went in the first place but since we were there we checked out the odd stuff that was also there.
Joy just saw your comment about the Camellia…and colors of Christmas.
Last 2 years we’ve had 300 tiny colored lights on it. It is really pretty too. Of course there were no blooms on it at Christmas. So we kinda get Christmas twice with lights then when it blooms

It looks like a big holly bush, bummer it doesn’t bloom at Christmas but with lights it would still be pretty.
Those are SOME sculptures!!! that swinging thing you were on looks SCARY!!! the rabbit on the bell is the bell’s “ears” if a bell doesn’t have ears, it will not be able to be hung properly and so will be soundless. Long ago, a Russian dictator (Stalin?) hated all the church bells ringing all the time and ordered all bells to be silenced “CUT OFF THEIR EARS” (a lesson from Eastern European history).
Cutting off ears on anything is a scary thought! Yikes! It is a weird park but we do love the spoon and cherry.
