Today I’m super thankful humans change over time. Mom and I are really tight and I can’t imagine her not having me or any of my previous or current canine siblings in our family. It’s evident that Mom really loves me and she isn’t afraid to show it.
From the day she picked me up from my dog parents, I knew I had her hooked. The two of us would do great things and share a wonderful life together and so far I was right about that.
Mom’s first dog was Trine, a mixed breed from the Humane Society. Prior to Trine, Mom only had cats. Trine was about a year and a half old when Mom adopted her. This photo is the two of them at Westerhever Lighthouse in Germany. Yes, Trine moved from Minnesota to Germany, not bad for a Humane Society dog. The photo is from a long time ago, fyi.
As Trine aged, Mom wanted a puppy and that is when Katie joined the family as a nine week old, Kuvasz, fluff ball. You can see how much Mom loved that little pup. Don’t worry, there is a point to my story, but I have to get through some things first.
After Trine passed away and Katie was an only dog, Mom found Emma in England and she joined the family in Germany as a puppy. Eight months later, Emma and Katie would move to Minnesota from Germany. This selfie was taken a little more recently and look how happy they were.
Bailie is Mom’s second GBGV and Madison was her third. It is becoming obvious that Mom loves dogs and especially GBGV’s. A friend snapped this photo of the three of them in Sioux Falls in 2018 at a very frozen nose work trial. They are cold but happy.
Little Nelson is the last dog who has joined our family and Mom is looking very happy about picking him up. Notice how happy Mom is with all seven of her dogs and that is over many, many years.
Why am I thankful humans change over time? Well, I was digging around in some old stuff with Mom and we found this paper from when she was seven years old. For me it was a devastating find until I thought about it. Mom has had ten cats in her life and now she has none but she is very happy with a house full of hounds. Change can be a good thing. Cats are great but at this point, dogs make Mom happiest and we are all happy to be in her life.
It goes to show that you can’t always believe what you read, especially if it is out of date. Mom will continue on our happy hound journey and forget she ever wrote those horrible words back in elementary school.

What great photos – each and every one of them and we are happy that your mom is happy with all of you hounds and you have fun together and that’s so important.
We are so thankful she changed her mind from when she was a little girl. How could a human like this say never wants a dog?
OMG!! That is a great lesson. We bet your were upset when you read that – and also confused!! Mom wanted me to tell you that she is actually allergic to dogs and cats and would tell people that she would never have a pet because of how much she sneezes. She thought she had made a final decision and that was that. THEN! She learned from a friend about doodles and how they are hypoallergenic. She stayed with a friend who had a doodle and no sneezing so… woohoo! Our house of doodles began. We are so glad she was willing to listen, to learn and to say YES! So I agree with your post today – I am so thankful humans can change! Have a great day. your friend Chester
Mom was allergic to cats but she always had at least one cat. As long as the fur wasn’t in her eyes she was usually alright. We dogs have never been an allergy problem. We are happy your mom found a way to have dogs and not be bothered with her allergies.
Those are wonderful pictures! Your mom just hadn’t known any dogs when she was seven, so you can just chalk that up to lack of experience. Anyway, that was a funny discovery!
It was dreadful at first but then we realized kids probably have no idea what they are talking about and it doesn’t matter since Mom has had dogs now for almost 33 years and now there are no cats.
She could never love a cat as much as she loved you.
She was a bit of a crazy cat person I have heard but then she got a dog and everything started to change, lucky for us!
There is never any about how much your Mom loves all of you. I enjoyed all the photos today too. Thanks for joining Angel Brian’s Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
She is dog crazy, which is so funny considering she never wanted a dog as a child.
What an awesome story told so well and great photos of Mom and her dogs ~ yep glad you changed your mind ~ lol ~ hugs,
Wishing you good health, laughter and love in your days,

We sure are happy Mom decided to give dogs a try. Her life would be so sad without dogs!
We get it! Our Mama grew up with dogs, but then had just cats until she got Bilbo….and she has never looked back!

Our mom’s are smart and they know how great we pups are, right? They would be so sad and lonely without us dogs. We did see a lady walking her cat down the sidewalk on a flexi the other day. She may not realize it would be more fun with a dog, LOL!
Yes, people can change, change their minds and their attitudes, grow and become more than they were. It’s why we all need to give and receive grace to become better tomorrow than we are today.
I love dogs but am happy with cats as I don’t have to walk them. If I ever get to retire, I may end up with both, or even a bird, who knows? I’m excited to stay open to new things, to change.
We don’t know what was wrong with our mom to write those words as a little girl but she sure did change for the better!
I’ve had both Cats and dogs in my life dogs first then cats Iost my Cat Daisy Mae on Feb. 13 2024, I was literally devastated still miss her so but Cats and dogs in our lives become like family we love love them so much
We are all family and Mom had both dogs and cats for many years. Our first year without a cat was fine and right now Mom doesn’t feel she would have the time for a cat so we are sticking with dogs. Cats want to hang out, sit on laps, etc and Mom isn’t good at being still and we are gone a lot.
Clearly change can be a very good thing!
It sure can be and we are thankful it happened with our mom.
