When the laptop dies suddenly, life comes to a stop followed by a panic. We experienced this live last Wednesday at about five in the morning. It’s really not the best way to start one’s day. Mom has disliked the HP laptop since day one but it was a gift to her, so she figured she would just live with it. She gets a new laptop about every three years but when it passed, it was only a year and a half old. It wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t Mom’s life but it is. She has her own business and works every day on her laptop, then there are the blog/social media things, photo editing, and dog sports items since she is on a committee for nose work trials. Life shuts down without the laptop.
Thankfully, Mom keeps things backed up in the cloud and on an external drive so data isn’t lost. She keeps her previous laptop just in case she ever needs anything from it. It is a good thing as she had to work from it the first day. That one is out of date, doesn’t work with the second monitor, was simply a nightmare to try to use for her work.
The week was slower with the Easter holiday, thank dog! She decided first thing that she needed a new laptop so she was at the store when it opened and found what she wanted and was out in about ten minutes. She will never get another HP, that is for sure! Setting it up was another challenge but she worked on it all day along with trying to do her job. The old one simply went black and there was no way to turn it back on or anything, it was totally dead. Mom would never trust it again which is why she won’t even attempt to have it fixed.
Thursday was a bit better trying to use the new laptop but issues kept popping up. Mom realized the things she had not remembered to install, and there was no time for blogging of any kind. If you follow us on Facebook, we did post that we were forced to take a short break. By the end of the day Friday things were in pretty good shape on the new laptop. Mom likes it a lot. She got an LG for the first time. We have our photo editing software installed and are “back in business”. When a laptop dies unexpectedly, even if you think you are prepared with a spare computer and everything backed up, it is still a major problem if you need your laptop for work.
We are happy to be back and sorry we disappeared but anything with us and the blog was not a priority those first couple days.

What a nightmare and setting up a new computer is very time consuming. We are so happy that you’re back!
It sure has been a nightmare. Now it is pretty much set up, just a couple things left that we need help with and we will be 100% set, hopefully for a few years!
No matter how well prepared, or now much back-up one has, it’s always a “bit different” with new equipment, tech changes in hardware/software, updates … so time consuming (and maddening) to get up and running again.
Especially when it is your work laptop and people are not going to wait days for you to get things up and running. It was a very stressful few days for us all.
That is the worsted. Min just blew up and they said it would take $600 to repair it. I bought a new one which took weeks to get it yo and running. I feel your pain.
The biggest drawback to computers is really setting them up and transferring the data. Not a fun job.
OMDs thank dogs you mom is a very savvy and techie mom. Well done to you 3 making do with less than you normal routine. Happy all is up and running

Mom used to be really tech but not so much anymore. Still when you have no choice, you figure it our and we stay clear of it all.
Did the Easter Bunny trounce on it??? Not nice, Bunny!!! We Emma followers like Joy to be NOT stressed!! You should give her at LEAST a dozen farm-fresh eggs and a handful of coupons for at least 50% on new toys and food for her beleaguered pups!
It was pre Easter and it was a stressful couple of days but things seem to be pretty good now.
Sure glad you got back on-line quickly….computer mess ups can really ruin your day
Especially when your job depends on it and you are the company. One has to multi task and get creative while we dogs simply nap a lot and avoid our stressed human.
You’re smart to have everything backed-up. I’m glad things turned out well.

Mom can’t imagine losing all our photos over the years but she also has to remember she needs her business files so she has two backups just in case.

That was very a stressful week for all of you! Computers are really essential for just about everything in life now. And, they have become so complicated with changes and updates all the time. Glad you are back to your usual schedule now.
It does take a couple days to get things set up with all the downloading and installing and trying to work on an old laptop in the meantime. Things seem good now, paws crossed they stay good for a few years.
Mama was getting worried, because you NEVER miss a weekday of posting. Luckily we made sure she looked at FB and she saw your post right before she emailed your Mom. We are so happy to see you today!
We are very lucky because we have a Dad who knows everything about computers….Mama gave up everything Microsoft and only plays with Apple now. She says with all the pictures and video she plays with it was the best decision she ever made.

Mom used to work in support for the city of Kempten in Germany but that was a long time ago and things are always changing with tech stuff. We simply had no time to do anything but Mom thought she would post quick on FB so no one would worry. Mom had an i-pad maybe ten years ago and she hated it. She decided to stick with Microsoft and Android. We don’t blame the system, we blame the lousy laptop that has caused weird stuff since day one. Now it is dead and we never will get anything HP again. At least our stuff is all backed up so we didn’t lose anything.
It is a nightmare, I’m glad you were able to get a new one right away and get it up in relatively short order.
Mom finally figured out how to install the printer and scanner yesterday, it has been driving her crazy for days now. Hopefully we can just relax and continue on without any issues for a long time.

It was not a very fun few days but things seem to be in order and we hope they stay that way.

We now solved the last installation issue which was the scanner and things are looking rosy for the future with the new laptop.
