I had an Elite trial on Sunday which included a wood shop. There were four searches, the first of the day for me was the guy spot, the Wood shop. Mom says it was my best search of the day since it was such a guy thing so search. We drove up to Pillager, Minnesota to the Pillager School for the trial. It is the same school I had my very first Elite trial at a year ago.
This year I searched the shop, the AG room, the auditorium, and the art room. I had a perfect morning but in the afternoon I missed a total of three hides. There were twenty total which is the most I have ever had in a trial. In the end, I had the third highest score of my ten Elite trials so far. I placed seventh overall out of twenty seven dogs. We didn’t get any placements but Mom says it was so much fun searching and we got a lot of points so she doesn’t care.
Here is a video of me in the wood shop. There was a range of two to six hides and I found five which ended up being correct. I’m always a happy guy when I’m searching but all the saw dust and machinery sure was fun guy stuff to sniff through.
I only have a few more Elite trials until I finish this level. Hopefully I will manage to finish this fall. Elite is a lot of fun and I think Mom has some fun locations planned for our next trials. This weekend was proof that there is more to winning, having fun is truly the best part.
My GBGV Life is happy, so we’re joining Comedy Plus for Happy Tuesday!

Great job, Nelson, and we love your happy face as you circle back and wait for your mom to give you your treat!
I get really excited for my treat and stand on my back to paws so I can get right up there and grab it.
Seemed an odd name “the wood shop” and made us think you may have been misled by sawdust-smells! And the school name seemed strange, too (likely after a person) … as we saw you “pillaging” around. So many weird words today threw us off from your accomplishments!
Pillager is a strange name but it is what it is. The wood shop is a good name as there was wood everywhere and lots of saw dust too. I got some in my beard which Mom found after our search.
how careful and highly concentrated you scanned the floor with your nose… you are a super sniffer!!!
I’m working hard, trying to catch the odor somewhere and trace it back to the source.
What a super place to sniff!!!
It was fun. Jam packed with stuff, machines, dirt, all kinds of fun things. I got to sort everything out and find the hides.
OMG That video was awesome! We love when you post videos. I am so impressed with your mom–my mom would be nervous and get distracted by her nerves. Your mom is cool and calm and totally connected with you! You are awfully cute too. You love to find the hides!! You wag your tail and it’s like you high five with your mom when you hop up to get your treat!! We love this post! Thanks for sharing and Congrats on a fun time!! your friend Chester
Thank you. Mom loves to watch our videos too 🙂 She has been doing nose work for eleven years, so she knows a lot about it and she realized a few years ago that it doesn’t matter if a place is big or small, or packed with stuff, we know what we are after and we know our job so she trusts us to work and find the things. There are times where things derail in a search but we pull ourselves together and move on. Humans see a room with their eyes but we see it through our noses and our noses are trained to look for certain things. I do get excited about my snacks when I find a hide. People love watching me search since I’m so happy to search and overly happy to stand on my back paws and get my treat.
We always love watching you Nelson, you always look so happy!
xoxo,
Rosy & Sunny
I really love my job. I whine when Mom takes to long to get going and sometimes I howl if I am being really impatient. I did howl once at that trial.
You’re a superstar, Nelson. You’re handsome and very talented.
Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday. Scritches to the pups and a big hug to mom. ♥
I love my sniffing work and I do a pretty good job too. It is a lot of fun since I am a scent hound, I was born to use my big nose.
Nelson ~ you are adorable, precious and smart as well ~ quite the ‘search’ ~ more ribbons soon for you I bet and Mom does a fantastic job with you and your siblings ~ hugs,

Thank you. We have so much fun, it is not always bad to not get a placement. There are always things to work on and we will do better next time.
Nelson you and Mom were together, having fun and that is what counts.
Hugs Cecilia
Fun is the main thing. If we are not having fun we should not be doing it. I love it, Mom loves it and she loves watching me work.
And we all have fun when we are watching you sniffing!
People at trials love to watch me too. I guess I am just a likeable king of guy but I don’t mind.
We enjoy seeing you have so much fun Nelson!
I love my sniffing work!
It’s fun to watch you having so much fun!
It’s pretty obvious I am loving my sport and Mom does too!
#GoodDog Nelson!
Thank you. Such fun sniffing through all the mess and stuff.
Great job, Nelson, rack those points up!
Just a few more trials and I will be at the highest level of nose work.
