Weather can be weird, especially if the weather is all messed up. One thing Mom and I don’t like seeing is the green pond scum. This time of year, the water on smaller bodies of water is all covered in green and it sure looks nasty. Right now, even a lot of beaches on the lakes around the area are closed because of high bacteria levels. I’m definitely not putting my paws in that water!
Walking with Mom at Gramma’s last weekend, I spotted a big rabbit sitting in the grass about twenty feet ahead of me. This is my stalking pose. Mom didn’t have time to get a shot of the rabbit but it ran off pretty fast.
Humans and dogs are not the only creatures with stress levels up a bit right now. Nature can be weird and we think making trees partially turn color because of stress is rather cruel. We have seen several trees now with the fall/summer leaf combo.
Sometimes Mom can be cruel too. This is an example of her cruelty. She says we need to carry this sign when we walk because I walk way too slow. It is only when I walk alone with Mom. If Nelson is along, I keep up just fine. To my defense, I do have some arthritis. Maybe it bothers me more when I am alone and don’t have Nelson to distract me?
There are some pretty, bright flowers still in bloom.
Finally, I leave you in a fog. It seems almost every early morning walk we have either thick fog like this or smoke from Canada. Such a bummer but every day we get closer to winter, and we can’t wait!
I’m joining my friends at Living Laughing and Barking in Our Backyard for their Nature Friday blog hop.

We always called the pond scum its solar cover and we agree, it’s yucky and your flowers are just beautiful! Take your sweet time walking, Bailie. Arthritis does hurt.
I do pretty well walking most of the time but I have trouble sitting and squatting mostly.
Late Summer sure can be weird, and a little yucky. You found some pretty flowers Bailie…and we hope the cooler weather comes soon and freshens up everything!
xoxo,
Rosy & Sunny
This year has been crazy and everything is totally overgrown but it won’t be long and it will all be brown for winter.
You are just taking extra time to smell the flowers and see if there are any bunnies around – you are not “slow”!!
When I walk with Nelson I move pretty fast but if it is just me and Mom I am pretty slow and I take my time.
Lovely nature photos ~ weather impacts so much ~ sweet photos of your adorable doggies ~ hugs,

We have an over grown, green summer this year!
Yuck, pond scum is icky! Hey, you sure found lots of pretty things though!
Most of the ponds are green by this time of year and it sure is nasty looking.
Wow nice Nature shots and captions. Red leaves already…what a topsy turvy summer we have had. Today is the first day it will reach 90 this august. First two weeks of August were wet and cool…
Happy Friday
Hugs to you all
Cecilia
We have had lots of 90 degree days. When trees get stressed they sometimes turn color and lose leaves way too early. This one seems to be very confused.
We had a beautiful weekend last weekend. Like “bee u tee ful.” Now? hot and muggy. Mom says my tongue gets longer and longer as we walk. My sister Lilly was a slow walker too. Have a great day. your friend Chester.
I never was slow but when Mom takes me out alone I am a slow poke. With Nelson I cruise along. My arthritis is part of it and also Nelson keeps me going and interested more than Mom does.
Great flower shots! Summer is supposed to be leisurely, Bailie, so go slow, and don’t spook the rabbits! POND scum is not only nasty, it can also be deadly! bad diseases!! You and your mom are smart to avoid the water!
We are not interested in going in the water and even if we were, Mom would not let us go in any water and definitely never drink any water!
The pond scum may well be duckweed and it is an invasive, at least here. It’s awful stuff.
Your other nature photos are lovely, though.
We are not sure what it is but it usually covers all the ponds by late summer and it is quite disgusting.
Mom Nature is struggling, trying to figure out her seasons now … never quite sure which one to display. Bailie, you just keep putting one paw ahead of t’other, as best you can, we’re with you on the slow walking thing and know how you feel, we all “go forward” at our own speed.
If Nelson is with us, I’m pretty speedy but when I walk alone with Mom, then I am pretty slow.
It’s been so hot all summer we’ve had algae blooms nearly the entire time. Luckily Wilson stays away from all water. It’s been particularly bad this year, another reason to hope autumn arrives early to cool things down and let those blooms disappear.
We have had it with the heat and humidity, rain storms, and all. Bring on the fall and winter for us!
