Meet the new Farm Dogs in town! Mom is on the trial committee and they decided to offer several different title opportunities along with Scent Work Detective and Container trials this past weekend. The choices were Canine Good Citizen, Trick Dog, Fetch, Farm Dog, and AKC Temperament Test. We have our CGC and Trick titles, we don’t fetch, so that left us with Farm Dog and Temperament to try, possibly. Mom entered both of us in Farm Dog Saturday. Her comment was that together we would pass but each of us on our own would fail at certain things. We proved her wrong!
Our test was held in the sheep barn. We used all three areas of the barn and the back outside area as well.
Tasks Farm Dogs Must Pass For A Title
The test is quite extensive and has a lot of CGC like components. There are twelve elements for a dog to do and they must be passed for the title. A loose leash is also required, no dragging Mom around.
- Greet the judge – dog must be calm and not afraid or aggressive towards the judge.
- Walk around the farm area and past a stranger in the area behaving and showing no fear or aggression.
- Jump on a bale of straw or hay and remain there for ten seconds.
- Walk by farm animals. Our animals were a bunch of ducks. Dog is not allowed to be very close or to be aggressive towards them.
- Next up is walking on odd surfaces, a tarp, a metal grate and a sloped area with no slip strips on it.
- Supervised separation – dog is in a contained area for a full minute and needs to be calm.
- Pass through a gate – dog waits while human opens a gate and then they walk through and human closes the gate behind them.
- Handler feeds livestock – dog must stay while human walks away, feeds the animals and returns.
- Reaction to another dog – a strange dog is in the barn and dog must walk past without reacting.
- Reaction to noise distractions – people make noise as dog passes, dog must not react.
- Dog reacts to livestock – dog moves closer to livestock and remains calm and not aggressive.
- Physical examination – dog must allow handler to check paws, ears and other areas for any debris that may be picked up in the barn.
Olivia got to test first and Mom was shocked when she actually passed, BUT, you have to pass twice and under two different judges. Well, not a problem, Olivia passed her second test as well. Then it was my turn. Mom figured I had the best chances of getting a title because of my personality. I did pass both of my tests and also earned my Farm Dog Certification, FDC. Now all we need is a small farm where we can showcase our skill, LOL! Saturday was a full day as we did two Farm Dog tests, I did two Detective searches and Olivia did two Master Container searches. We totally sacked out in our kennels until it was time to go home. Earning more letters to put after our fancy names is hard work!
My GBGV Life is happy, so we’re joining Comedy Plus for Happy Tuesday!

Congratulations to you both! That doesn’t sound like an easy test to pass and I surely couldn’t do it! Your fancy ribbons are beautiful!
We love the bright colored ribbons. Mom was surprised we both passed, especially Olivia as she isn’t one to try new things but we did it!
bravo bravo bravo to the bestest farmdogs in all the land
Now we just need a farm!
Congratulations on your achievements! That was a very full day for you two.
We were pretty dead after all that new stuff, especially.
We could totally see you both living on a small farm with Bailie and your Mom!!
Congrats!!

Rosy & Sunny
Mom can’t see herself living on a farm, so I guess we will just enjoy our pretty neon ribbons on our office wall.
What a great day you both had and I know your mom is very proud of you. We’re all proud of you. Congratulations to you both.
Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday. Scritches to the pups and a hug to mom. ♥
She still can’t believe we both passed two farm dog tests to get our titles on our first try. It was fun but lots of stress with the new stuff.
That’s quite bit of things to do.congrats. Now tell Mom to buy you a working farm.
Wait, we don’t really want to have to work. Our work is our nose work. I think we will leave it at that.
WHOO EEE! Go doggies!!! Superstars!
More titles for our names and it was fun to try new things too.
Wow ~ that is harder than getting a Master’s degree at college ~ Congratulations to you both sweet and precious doggies ~ and to Mom for all her hard work too ~ hugs,

The loose leash thing is something we never do at home so it was tough and Olivia had trouble with walking over a wire grate but we got it all done, amazingly!
Congratulations, Farm Dogs! I know squirrels make you crazy, but it sounds like farm work would be right up your alley.
We are really into rabbits, so maybe a rabbit farm?
I am so late checking in but OMDs what a fun post. I can only imagine all the lovely and exciting scents on the Farm. My Great Uncle had a huge farm with critters and crops
Hugs to all
Cecilia
The barns are all full of lovely smells, that is for sure!
Hooray and congratulations! You two sur had quite the day!
Saturday things went pretty well and we were all surprised.
Wow! I could never achieve this. I would be greeting everyone, sniffing everything. Mom calls me a handful. I think I am just me! Congratulations on all you have done! Your friend Chester
Mom still can’t believe we both passed the test twice with no fails and got our titles! It was a fun new experience.
Congratulations on doing such a great job. We don’t necessarily think of you guys as ‘farm dogs’ but you sure are champs in our books.
Entering a Farm Dog Test was never something that even entered our minds but when it is right there why not try and we did fantastic. More letters for our fancy names. It’s good for our breed.
