Today we have a Friday mix of “stuff” for you. There has been snow almost every day, bad roads, bitter cold winds, and not a lot of opportunity to get out and do things. Therefore, I am kicking the mix off with my Friendly Fill-Ins.
- Holly Jolly Christmas is my favorite Christmas song.
- My stocking is a Christmas decoration that I treasure.
- Though ’tis the season for parties, I much prefer to stay at home.
- If I could create a new Christmas tradition, it would be putting up lights at our house.
The above photo might quack you up! The other day when we were getting several inches of snow, suddenly some ducks appeared in our backyard and were just hanging out. Weird…we thought they all went south for the winter!
Olivia and Nelson did another hour of barn hunt practice this week. Mom is determined they earn their RATS Titles, (Senior Title). They could do it easily except the sport doesn’t allow rewarding the ring. No pay, no work is kind of their motto. I have had my RATS Title for several years. Dogs have to find all four rats, tunnel, and climb before they can leave the ring to go get snacks. It’s a huge ask for our snack monster but Mom is determined.
Do you know what happens to odor in the cold? It sinks, which is why dogs are always sticking their heads in the snow. Nelson tried to deny he was doing that but his snow beard pretty much blew his cover.
The pine trees always look so pretty after a nice fresh snow. Wish we could cut it down and bring it inside and have the snow stay.
Of course, some racing is always part of the snow fun in our backyard. Let those ears fly, guy!
Olivia is always about racing. Mom is like her as they both love to do everything really fast.
Mom says Olivia is the hound version of her. They have very similar personalities!
I’ll leave you with this quote. If you have a dog you will get it completely. True, isn’t it? Have a funtabulous weekend and stay warm! We are going down to fifteen or so degrees below zero without the windchill.
I’m joining my friends at Living Laughing and Barking in Our Backyard for their Nature Friday blog hop.

Mom prefers to stay home at holiday time too! Your snow is so pretty. The weather peeps are saying that we will see snow on Sunday morning – only a couple of inches but I’ll take it! Fifteen degrees below zero is way too cold. brrrrrrrrr Stay safe!
A few inches is all you need for some snow fun. Hope it happens for you!
That was fun. I would like to stay home also and I don’t do anything fast.
Mom and Olivia are always buzzing around but that is just their personalities. Emma sent her to Mom and she is truly her soulmate.
Great post, great photos ~ you are making the best of the snow ~ fun! I like to stay home too ~ hugs,

We all love the snow!
Zzzzooooom!!! We love watching backyard snow zoomies!!
Such a fun post today!
xoxo,
Rosy & Sunny
Hope you guys do get some snow to play in soon!
Lucy is a bit of a snack monster. When she finishes her “morning ritual” she expects to find snacks in her bowl. When she finishes her bedtime ritual, she expects to find snacks in her kennel. And yes the quote is spot on. Have a blessed day.
We thought the quote is amusing yet true.
JOY what a fun post…I always learn lots of new K9 facts here. Nelson does your girlfriend like snow as much as you do? Olivia what fun that you and Mom share personalities.
I cracked up at the comment about ‘common sense’ on my post today. PhDs I learned are blessed with kindness, are considerate, have big hearts but they are not blessed with the common sense DNA
That same professor and her professor husband took their 2 year old son on a day trip two hours east (in early March ) of us to visit a coastal city. While visiting, they walked around the city center where there was a lovely fountain. It has 18″ wall around it not much water but boys being boys. He some how jumped in. While she was telling me I said I guess you had to do a quick change of clothes. SHE SAID I DIDN’T TAKE CHANGE OF CLOTHES???????? ALL I COULD SAY WAS ‘REALLY’ BUT I wanted to say who takes a 2 year old anywhere w/o extra clothes? Thankfully it wasn’t freezing outside but that hat to be a chilly ride home.
Hugs Cecilia
LOL! It is true, some of the smartest people in the world really lack commonsense and basic things one needs to live properly. It all makes the world go round! Heavens, we don’t wear clothes but Mom always has extra leashes for us and when we travel, extra food, and lots of just in case stuff.
That last quote is so very true!!
We don’t get show here, which is just fine for us.
Winter with cold and snow isn’t for everyone, but we love it at our house.
Snow Zoomies are the best, but the duck trio really quacks me up
What were they thinking? Maybe they were using quack?
That sure is a lot of snow! I love that snow nose and those silly ducks!
Those ducks are a bit nuts if you ask me, but maybe some ducks like winter? We all come in with snow faces now and then but Nelson had a good one there.
What a fun post! The two racers are certainly smart enough to earn their RATS title, it will happen.
The last quote is priceless!
Thank you. It is hard to work to find four rats before getting any pay at all but we are trying to understand the concept.
