Mom says we have made progress but we are still working on perfection in Barn Hunt. Almost two weeks ago we went to the winter trial with the goal of getting qualifying runs and hopefully at least one of us a Senior Title. Well, how did it go for us?
It was colder than cold outside with lots of bone chilling wind and ice on the ground. Most of the two days we stayed in our kennels and napped. Olivia needed one Q for her title and we each had four runs. The past six weeks we have practiced almost weekly. The problem we have is there is no rewarding in the ring. We have to climb, tunnel, and find four rats and then when we leave we can have snacks. It is not how it works in our other sports. Mom has worked hard showing us we can do this and get something amazing when we are all done. We know where the rats are but we don’t tell our mom. Mom did finally start getting us motivated. Olivia found three rats in the allotted time twice and all four once but then she refused to go in the tunnel. It is progress as she found those rats fast but still not good enough.
I too can point out those rats in no time flat but only when I want to. My second run of the first day, I did it! I found all four, climbed and tunneled and earned my first Senior Q with first place. Mom says I was on fire as I was so fast pointing out the rats once I decided to do it. Now I have one Q but I need two more for my Senior Title. Since we are starting to understand this odd concept for Barn Hunt, we are going to continue practicing and hopefully try again in April. Progress is good but we are working on perfection so we can earn our titles. We are thankful things are starting to come together for both of us in this sport.
Since we haven’t done Barn Hunt in two and a half years, Mom totally forgot to take photos of the courses and things but she too will make progress next time.
We’re joining Brian’s Home Blog in the Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!

You are all making good progress in this sport. Maybe you would be more interested in finding bunnies?
It isn’t just that we find rats in tubes creepy, it is because we have to do all the tasks and leave the ring to get paid. All our lives our sniff sports have paid on the spot for a find but not in barn hunt.
You guys did great. Sometimes rewards come later but just be happy you get them.
We are learning slowly that the faster we finish the project the sooner we can leave and get the snacks. More practice should help.
Making progress is a good thing, you will both get there I’m sure! Thanks for joining Angel Brian’s Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
Mom is a stubborn hound herself and she is determined so we will keep practicing and hopefully have it down next time.
We thing you all did pretty good but know you all will practice and practice to do even better next time!
xoxo,
Rosy & Sunny
Mom thinks more practice will get us to work faster and manage to get the Q’s we need. It’s hard to practice because there are only two options to do it as you need the ring with all the bales and rats. Hopefully we will get better and finish Senior next time.
Progress! Mom saw a dead rat on the street in the city this week!! It was frozen! She jumped and went around it. She was glad I wasn’t with her!!
We find rats creepy as they can be super smelly and in our sport, they are in a tube buried in the straw. Pointing them out is all we do, some dogs want to get them out but we have no interest.
Excellent progress! So proud of you guys. 💗🌺
Progress has been made but we need a bit more to finish off this Senior Title thing.
Great progress is how you get to perfection ~ hugs to all of you smart doggies and Mom too

We will keep working at it until we succeed according to Mom.
Congrats to you both and next time you will do even better!
We sure hope so. We want to get this title and then maybe be done with Barn Hunt. Mom doesn’t know if she wants us to move to Masters or not.
it’s going so well!
There is some big improvement that keeps us going.
Bales and Tails what a fun x 100 event. Gosh darn Old man winter and mother nature have been very cruel
Hugs Cecilia
At least it was indoors but it was chilly for Mom in the building. Right now Mother Nature is very cruel – sun is shining, it is beautiful out but we are at zero right now and will stay well below zero with strong cold winds until Sunday. It’s even a bit much for us winter lovers.
WAY TO GO! Yes, Practice for all involved is how it works; and congrats Nelson on your first Q! You look good in BLUE!
I enjoy nice placement ribbons 🙂 Now to practice more so we can wrap up this title thing next time.
Bravo guys. We’re sure you’ll make it. Keep after that goal.
Mom is like a dog with a bone, she refuses to give it up, so we know we are in it until we earn it. Hopefully next time will be much better as we got so close this time.
