Back to New Ulm when we accidentally came upon a fire hydrant tour. It is for most dogs a dream but thankfully Nelson was raised with strict manners, and he knows not to “lift a leg” on a fire hydrant. We were actually looking for murals but also found the painted hydrants along Main Street. Finding Snoopy always makes us happy. He is such a happy dog and although he is said to be a Beagle we still think he looks more like a GBGV.
On another corner across from the Glockenspiel, we found a music hydrant. What a great idea to paint it like sheet music and with instruments.
This little guy is kind of a goofy fellow. We could not find any information as to what he is representing but he is cute. He has a shamrock on his hat which is odd since New Ulm is a full German town.
Is anyone interested in a gumball? It seems that I have plenty of them with this fire hydrant.
This one is super popular but we find it to be rather ugly. Can you tell what it is? It is right by the giant footprint we posted about back on Monday. The artist says it is Hermann the German.
Every fire department has a Dalmatian and this is a Dalmatian hydrant. I think we kind of look like Dalmations with our spots too. We saw several more painted hydrants on our fire hydrant tour, but we didn’t find them all that fun, so we didn’t take photos with them.
It was hot out, bright sunshine, almost ninety degrees, ideal for some ice cream to cool us off. Sadly that attempt was a fail as Mom said it was for humans only and we could not even go in the store. Still, we like the jumbo cone hanging on the building. Hope you enjoyed seeing some of the painted hydrants with us.

We had no idea they had painted all the hydrants on Main Street but then we noticed there was more than one and then all of them. Fun find.
First, does Nelson not lift his leg. Hoowdid you train him. Second,all icecream stores must allow dogs .
I am Mom’s man with manners. Peeing was one thing she worried about with a boy. In our sniffing sports we can’t pee or we get disqualified. As a very young fellow, I learned not to pee on everything. I can pee on hydrants but not fancy ones. I also can pee on trees but Mom always tells me when it is alright. She is quite strict about good peeing manners.

They are the best thing in that town! Some were not our thing so we didn’t take a photo of all of them but it was fun to see them and the creativity.

It’s a German town, sister to Neu Ulm in Germany where they have a pretty famous Weihnachtsmarkt. July was not time for a Christmas celebration but we still found some fun things.
I love this hydrant tour! So many interesting ones! Being a Snoopy fan from waaaay back myself, his hydrant is my favorite. I think the goofy-looking guy with the shamrock on his hat is a leprechaun. I zoomed in on the photo to get a better look at his face, and saw a beard and what appeared to be a pipe, sooooo. And yeah, that is kinda weird for a full German town; but maybe they just like leprechaun magic? Thanks for sharing the tour with us!
We saw a shamrock on him but we couldn’t find anywhere what he was supposed to be. He is still cute.
PS. I love your “pee manners” Nelson! Zen has only lifted his leg in his 4+ years once or twice that I can remember. But that may be due to discomfort in his hind legs. He’s been a squatter, and that’s fine with me! At least I don’t have to worry about him spraying Zoey, even by accident. 😁🫣
Oh, I love to lift my leg but I am not allowed to do it just anywhere. I also do squat. Mom taught me about where I should not lift my leg or squat.

They are really fun to find. The internet said artists had trouble painting them because a fire hydrant is a weird shape, but they all made something work.

The artists said it was not easy to find something to paint the works on a fire hydrant with all the shapes and bumps.
That fire hydrant artwork is stupendous! LOVE them all. What a great idea. When I first moved to Denver over 40 years ago, there was an artist who used to spray paint flamingos on trash bins. I loved walking around and finding them. They always made me smile.
Simple things like these or the flamingos make places so much more fun.
