Today is Patriot Day 2026. Mom prefers to remember it as 9/11. She was living in Germany at the time and remembers watching CNN non-stop for days trying to grasp what all happened in her home country. It is a day of sadness and remembering but also a day to remember to start a new, live life to the fullest, and help others.
Emma was born on September 11th, 2006, Mom’s first GBGV. She felt odd about celebrating a birthday on such a tragic day, but she wanted the puppy so Emma came to Germany and then moved to the US months later.
As it turns out she is one of countless good things that have happened on September 11th. Mom fell in love with her, she was so small, and adorable.
In 2011, Emma and Mom had the idea to start a blog and some social media accounts to tell the world about our breed. The purpose was to be a happy, fun place for people to go online. It has constantly evolved since the first day. Emma wants people to realize that even on a horrible day like 9/11, good things can be found. All of us here at our house support Emma’s vision and continue the blog for her.
The sadness of that day will not and should not ever be forgotten, but people need to move on in a positive direction. We do our best to honor that continuing the blog and remembering Emma on her birthday each year. Today as we live through this tragic day, look for the good, do some good deeds, and never forget all those that we lost on that day.

What a wonderful way to remember this tragic day twenty-five years ago and you were the most adorable puppy, Emma, and we wish we could have gotten to know you.
It was a horrible day but when Emma was born on that date a few years later, she did her best to make a positive difference in the world.
we remember that moment we turned our tv on and saw how our world became a horror movie… we love the way you will remember today…
Mom remembers how she felt hearing the news in her car on the way home in Germany and then getting Emma who was born on that day a few years later. She has always felt bad for people born on that day but maybe they make a positive difference in the world now too?
Life is complicated – it has good and not good (and horrible) – it’s just life.
That is so true and is why we need to enjoy every moment we have as you don’t know what the next moment will bring.
A beautiful tribute to Emma and 9/11!
xoxo,
Rosy & Sunny
She will always be very special in our family for so many reasons.
Never ever forget. I was such aa terrible time but it’s nice to be reminder to think of the future
Mom feels like it was yesterday and she still remembers sitting in her car in the parking ramp hearing a plane hit one of the towers. She started driving and the news just kept coming. She could not wait to get home and just watch CNN non-stop. It was scary even living so far away.
Happy Birthday angel Emma!!!
I’ll never forget 9/11
No one can ever forget it. That is something no one would ever imagine could happen.
Emma was a gift to help mom’s spirits heal and 100% Emma made all of us smile her entire life.
Hugs Cecilia
She has been a great breed ambassador and Mom continues her work with the rest of us. Emma was very special.
I, too, think of it as 9/11 and will never forget. I do believe that in order to heal through such a dark, horrific time, a birth, such as beautiful Emma’s, is so needed. Those are the stories we need to hear in order to move forward. Emma will always be a shining star that came out of such a dark time.
She was just a dog but through blogging and social media we hounds have brought happiness to many people and that was her goal.
We will never forget, never.
Nope, Mom will never forget that day, where she was, what she did.
You’re so handsome, Henry. Yes you are.
I will never forget this day. Never.
Have a blessed day and weekend. Scritches to the pups and a hug to mom. ♥
It is still hard to believe such things really even happened!
What a beautiful, well written tribute to 9/11 and your dogs, Joy!
Thanks, Karen 🙂

Thank you. He is fitting into the family really well.
It was the worst day in our country’s history. I know I will #neverforget.
Mom was glad she didn’t live in the US at that point but it was terrifying no matter where one lived. It still doesn’t seem like it could have really happened.
