This is a bit about me – meet Emma!
If you are new to my blog you will find out that I am all about fun, keeping dogs fit, eating healthy, and other useful dog topics. I also published my first book, Tales of a French Scent Hound, in September 2013, you can get your copy in paperback or as an ebook at Amazon.com.
My name is Debucher Baguette, a Grand Basset Griffon Vendeén, but being more of a no frills kind of girl I prefer to go by Emma the GBGV. In case you wonder what GBGV really means, the Grand refers to our size in the whole group of BGV hounds, Basset refers to our shorter legs, Griffon to our coat, and Vendeén is the area of France where the breed originated – basically a French Scent Hound. You can find more about the GBGV breed here. Currently the GBGV is not fully recognized by the AKC because there are so few of us in the USA, but we are in the miscellaneous class which is just one step away from full recognition!
I was born on September 11, 2006 in England, my doggie parents are Debucher Yorrick and Debucher Prima Donna. I personally think my dad is so cute – he reminds me a bit of Huckle Berry Hound and that look of trouble in his eyes, I inherited that for sure!
When I was 9 weeks old my new mom flew to England to pick me up, she could not wait to meet Emma, meaning me. I flew back to Germany with her and was still small enough to fit under the seat so I was with her the whole time. When I was about 10 months old, we packed up the family and moved to Minnesota in the USA. This time I had to fly in the cargo hold which was scary but I knew mom would find me once we landed.
We have been living in Minnesota since July 2007. I have a great house with a decent sized fenced yard. Sadly, my wonderful big sister, Katie, a Kuvasz, born on June 27, 2002 in Pilsting, Germany, passed away on June 17 2016. I currently have a younger GBGV sister Bailie that was born on June 17, 2013 in New London, Missouri, and a second little GBGV sister, Madison who was born on August 10, 2016 also in New London, Mo. I have 2 cats that we adopted in the fall of 2008 when Bert was about 3 and Sophie about 1 yr old.
I enjoy having fun and do have fun most of the time. I love to get all dirty and messy, hate to get groomed, love watching, chasing and hunting squirrels, rabbits and other small critters but most of all I enjoy just being a wild and crazy girl with lots of mom snuggle time!
I am a well traveled GBGV. I have visited five countries: Germany, UK, Belgium, Netherlands, USA, and eighteen states: Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Wisconsin. I hope to add even more states soon.
I hope you enjoy my blog – I thought it would be fun to share my experiences with other GBGV people and people that don’t yet know of the breed in the hopes of creating more attention to the GBGV as a great pet. Being a big dog health and fitness fan, I often bark about these topics as well. Follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest to stay in touch!
I have two important links I would like to share with you:
- Of course, the link to my breeder in England, Vivien Phillips, who obviously breeds perfect pups!
- The GBGVCA – where every GBGV in the USA should be a member!
