Two weeks ago, we drove to Blue Earth, where we found a few old buildings, including this old log house from 1862. If you read my post on Thursday, I talked about taking a mini road trip with our Mitsubishi Outlander CUV and this was one stop we made. I thought the old log house would make some nice black and white photos.
The log house was locked, so we couldn’t go inside. I can’t imagine people living in such a tiny place! There were barely any windows, and not enough room for rough housing inside either.
It was still a cute thing to see. It makes a GBGV appreciate living in the modern world, in a nice home with heat and a/c! Bummer I didn’t have my prairie hat, but we had no idea we would find a place like this.
Today IβmΒ joining the Black and White Sunday Blog Hop, with a splash of Christmas red, sponsored by Dachshund Nola and Sugar the Golden Retriever. Remember to stop by and visit some of the other blogs on the hop to meet new friends!
Very cool! Think that log cabin would be cozy, but very crowded with your and your sisters.
It is real small. Can’t imagine a family living in there.
Beautiful black and white photos. I love old log houses very cool stop.
Old is always good with b/w.
We love to find old buildings and other surprises when we drive around.
We had no idea, so it was a fun surprise
What a great find. Katie and I lived in a house built in 1848. It had lots of windows.
Hope it was bigger than this one! Old homes that are up to date are neat to live in.
that looks a lot like an old log cabin school house we like to visit about an hour from here – isn’t it cool when you find such history
It is, and usually it is always unplanned.
That is a great find indeed. Have a serene and easy Sunday.
Best wishes Molly
Thanks. Have a relaxing day!
That is very cool. I love old places like that, they are always so interesting to think about. Great find!
It is hard to imagine living like those people did. We are definitely fortunate to have what we do these days.
How cool. I love old/historical buildings.
Thanks. We love to look at them too.
That is a very cool log house but we like our modern one a bit better too!
It really makes a pup appreciate where we live these days.
That’s a cool log house Emma! Old places are awesome!
Fun to find, wouldn’t be so fun to live in.
Funny, i was just thinking you needed a bonnet as I looked at the pictures. For some humans, the new trend is tiny houses like that one, but it is NOT for me either. XOXO Sparkle the PBGV
This is like a one room shack. Smaller is in, but not this small! I like our house much better but it is fun to see how humans used to live.
Very nice, we love to find old buildings.
It was a real fun little area.
Very good posing there Emma, and yes your hat would have added a lovely touch, as always. Mom says that her grandma lived in a sod house in Nebraska, which was pretty common there. Love Dolly
We had a thatched roof house in Germany and the garage had a grass roof, but that is as close to old as I want to be living in. Sod homes are supposed to be energy efficient.
Ahh…it is too bad that you didn’t have your bonnet cutie! You look very pretty and regal in this photo regardless. Now go snuggle in your warm bed π
I didn’t bring my bonnet because I didn’t know I would be finding this old place. How dreadful to be caught without out a hat as a British dog!
What a cute little house!
It was real cute.
I always wish such old houses could talk..I would sit there for hours to listen to that stories :o)
have a sunny sunday
If that house could talk, I’d probably still be sitting there trying to get Mom to take me home! She would want to listen forever!
WE love seeing those sorts of thingys and wondering HOW folks Managed to Survive and thrive…
Those folks on the prairie sure had it rough!
This would be my dream abode (am very easy to please!) but it would need to be in a wood, with a lake, and a river – and, erm, some more windows and a big chimney…with a log burner…and wi-fi – OK I’m not that easy to please π
And a dishwasher π
Mom pawticularly LOVED this post because she is obsessed with old log houses! Mom wants to live in one! Barks and licks and love, Dakota
Oh my! It would be a bit small I think, but way back when a whole family fit in I guess.
Nice little hut!
That is a good way to put it!
You look like you’re waiting to be let in!
–Wags (and purrs) from Life with Dogs and Cats.
It was all locked up tight, so no luck and not even a doorbell!
Wood grain is very pretty in B and W! I guess less windows means cold air!
It is Minnesota, so plenty of cold air!
That’s a neat find. The house has been very well maintained over all the years.
Wish we could have gone inside.
We are pretty lucky, but I bet the dogs who lived in that little house didn’t have to be on leashes all the time and could chase wabbits to their hearts content.
They probably had to live like their humans – hunt their own food, figure out how to stay warm, work real hard all the time. I kind of like the cushy life I think.
I love old buildings like this! It’s amazing to see how people survived and thrived with so little. Bentley and Emma would want a much more modern abode! BOL!
Oh this would never do for us to live in. We need a decent place with all the modern conveniences π
How cool! Wonder what it looked like inside!
We couldn’t go in and couldn’t see in the window really.
Fun to see how little space people needed back then π
Very little space!
Very cool photos! We agree though – especially in this cold? We’ll take the furnace, pleez.
I prefer the 5-Star home accommodations. Maybe I’m spoiled, but I like it!
Ooh boy, yeah! Looks like we’ve come a long way since those times! *wags* – Gilligan from WagsAhoy.com
Thankfully!
Brr – I get it could get cold in the winter living inside that but it sure is cool looking. You get to visit the neatest places.
Abby the Lab
We are toasty warm inside in the winter, but we love to go out in the cold. We have no interest in living back in the primitive days, though. Modern convenience has won us over.
It are a cool lookin old house, but I thinks I prefurs da modern luxurees too.
Modern convenience is a wonderful thing!
Wow! That looks VERY much like the cabin mom and dad visited in South Dakota! Amazing how similar they are! We, too, are very glad we live in the modern world! xo Chloe and LadyBug
I think they were the style at one point as there are quite a few of them around in “museum” areas.
Lovely photos π That’s a cute looking house!
Purrs xx
Athena and Marie
It was nice to look at but wouldn’t want to live in it!
Love it. I love to go visit places like that, and then go home to modern conveniences like water coming from a tap, lol. =)
The simple things we always take for granted.
What a great cabin! Yes, us dogs need room to rough house, fur sure!
Cabin is about all it could be used for in my opinion. I’m a dog who needs space and modern conveniences.
Oh I just love photos like these, and that old log house is so rustic! Paw-some!
α¦ husky hugz α¦ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
Aside from a tent, it is about as rustic as it gets, but fun to visit.
Emma looks so at home at the door of this log cabin!
Until I realize the modern conveniences are missing, then I would want to go home.
I too was sort of hoping you could have gotten inside. I love looking at stuff like this! But I’m like you – I can appreciate it but don’t necessarily have to live in it.
In the winter it is all locked up.
It is more the heat/cooling factor than the space factor for me. I can sit in front of my fire and still barely get my house warm and that includes using a furnace! I can’t imagine how cold people were back in the day before heated cars and homes. No wonder so many died so young.
But it is a cool photo!
We really enjoy modern conveniences like heat, a/c, running hot water, electricity, etc. Seeing a home like this reminds us of how lucky we are.
