Today we bid a final farewell to our good friend Lupo, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge on Monday night. Lupo was Katie’s last living friend in Germany. The two of them kept in touch over the past years with messages and photos using What’s App. Sadly, we don’t have too many photos as Mom wasn’t a blogger or photographer ten plus years ago, but we do have a few shots we can share of the good times we now will cherish forever.
Lupo made many trips to St. Peter-Ording for vacation, and prior to our moving to the USA, it was always a fun time for Katie to see her little buddy. They loved the beach, romping, sniffing, exploring, and Lupo loved to be in the sunshine and occasionally enjoyed taking a rest out in a Strandkorb (beach chair).
Katie and Lupo were good friends long before I came along. When Lupo was visiting on vacation, the two of them enjoyed keeping an eye out for any riff raff while the food was being grilled. They made a nice set of guard dogs. These photos of Lupo in visiting Katie are from 2005 and 2006. Katie looks so young!
They hung out in the big open yard with plenty of space to play. There was no fence, but amazingly, Katie didn’t try to leave home. From what Katie tells me, those were really fun times. My mom doesn’t miss Germany, but she does miss her friends, and I think Katie has always missed her friends too. Katie has always been real social and has always had good friends like Lupo.
In June 2007, when I was just a puppy at nine months old, we did a quick trip around Germany to say, “good bye” to our friends before we moved back to the USA. We spent a night at Lupo’s house. It was the first time I met him. We were supposed to pose for a photo with Alex, Lupo’s mom, but as you can see, none of us were into modeling or photos.
The three of us hung out in Lupo’s yard with Mom for a bit. I was kind of a pain in the furs to Lupo being a young pup, but he was polite. I think Katie may have been slightly embarrassed having me tagging along. I hardly recognize my mom back then when she wore glasses! It was definitely a fun visit! We all knew at that time we would never be together again with the Atlantic ocean between us, so we made sure to have one last really fun time together.
Lupo just turned fourteen in March. He had a nice party with family and good food. We always thought Katie who will be fourteen next month would be the first to go, so we were shocked to hear about Lupo’s sudden passing. We are especially sad for his mom who will miss him so very much. Lupo was an only fur in the family, so there are no others to console his mom. Lupo, run free, and find those big beaches in heaven to run around on. One day we will all meet again! Hugs to your mom from all of us, but the biggest hugs come from Katie who is very sad about the loss of her good friend. Remember to cherish every day you have because there is no guarantee of a tomorrow.
I hope Lupo is playing with Maggie and Panda at the Bridge. The mom still misses Panda, her ‘Little Man.” She misses Maggie too, but I am so comforting. Special XOXO’s Sparkle
My mom missed her Trine, but she has us to take care of her and keep her mind busy, and we have lots of photos of her around to keep her memory alive.
We are so sorry to hear about losing Katie’s and your friend Lupo. I’ve lost so many friends since going to the park and meeting them it’s as hard on us as it is their family. Lupo sure had a great life and we hope that will give his mom some comfort. Love Dolly
It pretty much closes the dog chapter of living in Germany for us. We are really sad for his mom. She will miss him so much.
Hey Lupo – look for two Portuguese Water Dogs at the bridge named Neptune and Ocea. They’ll show you a good time!
I’m sure he will be the one lying on the beach working on his fur tan while the PWD’s run around crazy in the water!
So sad when friends leave us
Lily & Edward
It is always a sad thing. I know Katie has always missed her buddies in Germany, but this was her last one.
I’m so sad for your friend Lupo and his family… please give his mom a big hug from me…
You would be in a better position for the hug since Lupo lived in Germany and his mom is still there. Verstehst du π
Maybe we will meet her once :o)
I am so sorry for Lupo and his mom. That is why I will always have two pups. I cannot imagine the silence or the sadness. Run free, Lupo. β₯
My mom always wanted at least two dogs, but as her first dog got older she really wanted to get Katie because she can’t imagine waking up with no dog to cuddle with, walk, and feed. There are some people that never want another dog because they loved their first one so much. Everyone is different, but my mom is like yours.
We are so sorry for Lupo’s Mom, and for Katie and your family as well. It’s tough to lose a friend even if they were only a long distance friend later. You have some great photos and memories from then and we’re glad you have those to cherish.
The memories from our times with our dog friends are some of the best ones.
I’m so sorry for Katie’s (and Mom’s) loss. They are such a HUGE part of our lives and they are gone all too soon. Run fast, run free Lupo.
It was really sudden which makes it tough. Even though he was 14, he was doing really well.
We are so sorry for the loss of your furiend Katie, and are sending virtual hugs to you and to Lupos family…
Thank you my friends.
Oh Emma, I’m so sorry about Lupo’s passing! No matter how many years we pet parents have with our furry “kids”, it’s never enough. My heart is breaking for Lupo’s mom…send her hugs for me, too. RIP Lupo.
We are sad for Lupo, but we really feel bad for his mom. It will be hard for her to get on without him.
I’m so sorry to hear about your friend.
It is sad, even when friends are older, you are never ready for the news that they are gone.
Run free handsome one!
Katie has always picked handsome fellows to hang out with.
Sorry to hear about your pal.
Thank you. It is never easy to lose a friend.
We are so very sorry to hear about dear Lupo and send love and hugs to his special family. It’s sure isn’t easy losing a good friend.
It is hard and since we can’t comfort his mom, it is even more difficult.
Hi friends, I am Lupos mum! It is good to read all of your hearty comments. I am pretty sure Lupo will be running on accross the most beautiful beaches, enjoying the sun while relaxing. Someday Lupo will send me a new fur friend to take care of. Big hugs to all of you, especially to Katie, I miss her so much
Thanks, Alex. We wish you were closer so you could hug us and we could hug you. This is a tough time for you, but you will get through and Lupo will guide you in spirit.
What a lovely tribute and remembrance of your friend, Lupo. It’s so hard when we lose them, no matter what their age (but especially hard when they go so quickly.) RIP Lupo and hugs to your mom.
We are really sad for his mom. She is devastated, but we know time and memories will help her feel better. He will never be forgotten.
so sorry about the loss of your friend.
We are sad about Lupo, but he is now having a blast in heaven. His mom is the one we feel really bad for as she is really heart broken.
Lupo, run fast and free & say hello to our fur friends! So sorry for Lupo’s Dog Mom, the loss and the emptiness is heartbreaking!
We feel so bad for her!
This has been happening far too frequently of late and we are sorry to hear of yet another fur-iend crossing over the Rainbow Bridge. I hope tender thoughts and sweet memories recalling happier days will comfort you and Lupo’s mom.
It’s really sad for Lupo’s mom, and it ends a chapter of life in Germany as well.
Sorry to hear about Katie’s loss. Photos can help make memories come alive again.
It kind of closes a chapter in our lives with his passing, but life goes on.
So sorry to hear about Lupo and very sorry for his mom.
It is hard since it was unexpected. He was 14, but doing really well and then he was gone.
