Time to get busy baking Valentines cookies for dogs! Nothing says love to a dog like bacon, which is why I created this magnificent recipe for Hearts of Bacon cookies. Humans will love the simplicity, and your furry friend will find the taste to drool for.
Hearts of Bacon cookies can be made in a short amount of time, and they are quite festive to look at as well. Because my recipe calls for bacon fat, your human can have the bacon, and use the fat for the dog cookies. I would say it’s a win/win situation!
At first glance of the ingredients, you might think these cookies can’t taste good, but trust me, they are scrumptious! This is all you need to make these cookies:
- whole wheat or ground oat flour
- an egg
- warm water
- melted bacon fat
Once everything is mixed together, toss the dough out onto a floured surface, and start kneading the dough with your paws. Keep on kneading for two to three minutes until the dough forms a nice ball. This is the hardest part of making these cookies! Cats love to knead with their paws. Perhaps if you have a cat, let them do this hard work for you.
Next up, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick. Gather your favorite Valentine cookie cutters, and start cutting out the festive cookies.
Once your baking sheet is full, it is time to pop the cookies into the oven. The number of cookies you will get, depends on the size of your cookie cutters. I would estimate two to three dozen cookies on average.
While the cookies are baking, you can start mixing up your frosting. Once again, I have just a few ingredients:
- rice or brown rice flour
- water
- honey
- all natural food coloring
Being winter in Minnesota, I put my cookies out on the deck to cool as soon as they came out of the oven. They went from 350 degrees to almost frozen in about three minutes! While I was preparing the frosting, I could smell the bacon, and it was making me really hungry!
After the cookies cool off, it’s frosting time. I left some “as is” because I think the flour dusted cookies among the pink ones make a nice looking combination. We are going to have to put this in the Lady’s recipe book!
I hope so. You can’t miss out on the taste of bacon!
oh that hearts go straight to the heart and then in our tummy… what a cute idea!!! and I wonder how you can resist that tasty dough… I think I could not even cut one cookie without eating it immediately LOL
Mom says I’m a professional and I know my job. I did get one as soon as they were cooled off, and a couple pieces of left over dough too.
You could send some to Roxy and Torrey, they would love those I’m sure.
I could open my own bakery, but that would be a lot of work.
Yum-a-roo! Everything is better with bacon!
I think even kitties agree on that point!
You are right, Emma, the combination does look nice. Those cookies look delicious, and we’ll take any excuse to cook some bacon around here!
Bacon is the key to success I think!
Oh my Emma, these do look delicious!!

Super tasty. You might even like a piece of a cookie as a feline.
You have me drooling and not just over the cookies! Mom says she will make some in our new kitchen. She is so excited to have an updated area to cook and create!
I’m so excited for all of you and your new adventure in life. Change can be scary, but it is exciting too!
They look doodle*licious but Jaxson would still be looking for the bacon! LOL
I think he would find enough in the cookies π
The look very good and since the humans get the bacon it is a win/win. We use bacon grease to flavor several meals so there is always some in the fridge. Dad made Aspen bacon and eggs for breakfast instead of cookies, which he loves. Mica has no interest in either. Great job as always Emma.
Thank you. Mom always has bacon grease in the fridge too. It is always needed for something.
I’ve been looking for some easy dog treats, Emma, and these look like the perfect ones! Thank you for sharing!
Everyone loves some bacon! Hope the pups enjoy them.
