Do you show your dog appreciation? Dogs are not only dependent on their humans, they crave their love and attention. The thing they cherish most is time spent with their humans. So how can you show appreciation? Well, let us tell you some of our favorite ways of being recognized.
7 Ways To Show Your Dog Appreciation
1. Morning Snuggles
Not every pup wants to get up in the morning. Mom is an early morning person, so we too have to get out of bed early. Before getting up, Mom always takes a few minutes to cuddle and snuggle with us, talk to us, and then she gets up and gets going. It is a wonderful way for her and for us to start our day with some loving.
2. Go For A Walk Together
What dog doesn’t want to go for a walk? We go for two walks a day, with the long walk in the morning. Walking is a wonderful way to make your dog happy, and for you and your dog to bond. Do yourself and your pup a favor and leave the ear buds home, and turn your phone off so you can focus 100% on your pup. When you are back home you will both feel so much better!
3. Feed Her Healthy Food
Showing love through good food is important. Your pup doesn’t understand nutrition, but she will definitely know the difference in taste between cheap, bad food, and good wholesome food. Spend a bit more on good food to keep her healthy and happy, she will love you for it.
4. Find A Hobby With Your Pup
All your dog really wants from you is to spend time with you, so find some activities you can do together. We all love our dog sports and they all include Mom. You can do them just for fun, or for competition. Either way, you and your dog will learn more about each other, and have such a good time.
5. Let Her Know When You Are Leaving
If you are leaving her home alone for a while, tell her you are leaving. Tell her when you will be back and what you will be doing. She won’t understand what you say, but dogs love to hear from their humans. Studies have shown that the more you talk to a dog, the more they pick out, and learn various words and phrases. Remember, she will be there waiting for you to return whether you are gone for ten minutes or ten hours.
6. Greet Her When You Return
Most pups are ecstatic when their humans return home even if it was only a brief amount of time. Show your dog some excitement when they greet you. Perhaps they bring their favorite toy, or jump up and give you hugs like you were gone for years. Don’t brush them aside, share in their joy. You are all they have, and they love you so.
7. Always Kiss Her Goodnight
Show your dog appreciation at the end of the day, just as you did at the beginning. Tuck her into bed with you, or in her own bed or crate. Snuggle a bit if she likes snuggling. Tell her how good she is, and how much you love her. We all hop into bed and wait for Mom to come over and brush our teeth, then she turns off the light, gives us each kisses, and we fall asleep. Dogs love routines, and that is our bedtime routine.
Life is short. For dogs, life is far too short, but none of us have any guarantees on how many years we have. Make the best of each day, and show your dog appreciation for all the love and joy they bring you. One of our favorite quotes is:
“Yesterday is History. Tomorrow is a Mystery. Today is a gift, that is why it’s called the Present.”
We are joining the Brianβs Home Blog Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
My eyes are getting all watery, that is such good, loving advice. These pups are definitely loved, and it shows.
Soon our furs will be thinning out from all the loving we get, but we are very happy.
Mom does a great job with us – except for the walking. Maybe she can do that after her new knee in 6 weeks (that is when she actually gets the knee.) She loves us so very much. I love my routine of kisses in the bed in the morning. We are going to the spa today! XOXO, Sparkle
Ugh, I have to go next week. Not a fan of it, but it has to happen. I know you and your sister are super loved too. Love is the best.
I laughed for everyone of them. They are so right except Katie hates walks, rather eat junk than the venison I give her, hates to snuggle but I always say goodbye when I leave and tell her when I will be back. When I come home Iβm lucky if I get a wag. I love her to death anyway and I know she loves me.
Well, we can be a bit independent, but I know you are an awesome dog mom, and she knows it too. Mom always tells us where she is going and when she will be back. We enjoy the break and nap, but race to greet her when she returns. Hope you are getting our posts again π
I am. Thank you
so so true…it is THE present in any way… after we joined the mama for her hobby, she will join us this year for our hobby too… we are curious how this will work LOL
Will she start destroying things along side you boys?
Those really are most wonderful and totally pup appreciated I’m sure! Thanks for joining the Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
Kitties need appreciation too, but something more tailored to cats and their independence.
Those sure are some good things to remember and make the doggies very happy. You all have a great day.
Thank you. We love being loved and appreciated.
Those are all great points to always practice.
We sure think so. I bet you all have them covered.
Excellent tips. That is such wonderful advice. So often, it’s just the little things that count.
Sometimes the small things are the best things!
We like those tips for doggies and they work for Kitties too
You might need to modify some of them for kitties, but they are great tips.
We do almost all of those, but for our cat. It’s just rude to come and go without saying anything!
You are so right. Some humans don’t seem to understand that, though.
Yes! Yes! Yes! I agree wholeheartedly!! And I’ve always kissed my pups good night, snuggled with them, spoken to them, etcetera.
Some people think Mom is looney for doing that, but we all appreciate the thoughtfulness always! You are a #1 dog mom too π
I agree with all these things. We sure loved our Little Bit. We thought of her before we thought of ourselves. I see you do the same. Good for you.
Have a fabulous day. Scritches to the precious pups. β₯
We feel so bad your Little Bit is not with you anymore. She must have been very special.
Love these! We have a check mark by all of them, though doing hobbies together needs a little more work from me. I just need to follow through with my plans a little better!
Hobbies are so great for bonding and learning more about each other. You are an awesome mom for Luke.
What a great list this is! Not all of them happen but most do.
Everyone has to tailor this list to their own family. We do other things too, but maybe not things that others do. The main thing is to let us dogs know we are appreciated.
Pets really deserve the best care and love. This would build the best bonding between you and your pet.. <3
Love, bonding, and good care are so very important. It makes living with a pet so much better.
We are happy to say we are pretty appreciated!
xoxo,
Rosy, Jakey & Arty
I think you guys are spoiled like us, and it is a great way to live!
Those are great ways to appreciate your dog.
Thank you. It’s important stuff.
Those are great tips. I start each morning with belly rubs on the floor with our boys. It is the best way to wake up and stay relaxed.
We all love to roll around in bed and get snuggles, belly rubs, and kisses.
Itβs especially true that they love when we get home. Itβs the best time of day for all of us!
Mom coming back is always a party, even if she only was gone for two minutes.
Such a lovely and sweet article to read!
