Don’t baked liverwurst dog training treats sound amazing? Our Standard Poodle friend’s mom gave us the recipe a while back when we were at nose work class. We all love liverwurst, but it is so hard to carry around as a training treat. Finally I had some time to try making these simple treats. Since they turned out perfect, I’m sharing the recipe with you today!
Start by getting out a package of liverwurst. Be careful when carrying it that you don’t bite down too hard and squish it or let your teeth go through the wrapping.
All you need to make these treats are the liverwurst, a knife, cutting board, baking rack, pan with sides, and an oven.
Whoops! I almost forgot to taste the liverwurst to make sure it tastes good. Of course, it tasted fabulous, so I continued on slicing off small pieces and placing them on my baking rack.
Keep on cutting, trying not to sample too many pieces. Sometimes I just could not even look at what I was doing because this stuff is so tasty!
Finally, my baking rack was pretty full, meaning it is time to bake these beauties at 200 degrees for two hours. The reason to have them on a baking rack over a pan with sides is so they bake evenly, and any grease will fall off an into the pan.
After two hour of torture, the treats were finally done. Next, you take them out of the oven and let them cool off. Believe me, this is really torture! The pleasant aroma was wafting through the house, but I still had to wait. See how they are now brown? Actually, they are still a bit soft, but they will go nicely into a treat pouch without making a big mess.
Mom let me know when they were a safe temperature to eat, and I got a taste of my baked liverwurst dog training treats. They are super yummy!
Now we have a bunch of them to use this week for training, but I think they will only last a day or two.Β We will keep them in a closed container in the fridge so they don’t go bad, and enjoy in moderation because Mom will insist! Would your dog dive into these tasty morsels, what do you think?
Iβm happy, so Iβm joining Comedy Plus for Happy Tuesday!
Those look like they would make a great reward. Have fun learning and getting treats!
Treats definitely make learning fun.
Sounds easy enough
It doesn’t get much easier.
What a great idea to use a rack. I should of used that week when I did liver. It made a mess of the pan. Thanks for the tip! Those looks nummy.
Mom even wears gloves with pure liver because it is so sticky. This is less messy.
Oh my, I’ll bet you all are really going to enjoy those yummy treats!
We sure are!
they look fantabulous, that is really a super duper idea!!!
Sometimes the best things in life are super simple!
Oh darn, we don’t use/eat liverwurst in our house – it’s way too rich for Ducky’s sensitive tummy.
Mom doesn’t want anything to do with it, but we love it and we get it in small doses.
My Alex loves liverwurst! I will bake some for him the next time I use my oven. Thank you for the recipe Bailie! (You look fantastic in your chef’s hat)
Thank you. Alex will hang out by the oven for the two hours of baking to make sure things go alright…trust me, I know.
Thank you so much for this recipe! My mom figured out liverwurst is the best thing to wrap around pills for us several years ago. We love the stuff. she is definitely going to make these treats (with my help) for us! Thank you!!! XOXO, Sparkle
Liverwurst is great for pills except for with Madison who knows better and sucks the liverwurst off and spits out the pill! Enjoy.
We will definitely look into this the next time we go shopping. We like Sparkle’s idea of using it to wrap pills.
The unbaked works great for non picky eaters and pills. The baked is a good training reward.
Gram used to make liverwurst sandwiches for mom and her brothers for lunch all the time so she knows how yummy this stuffs is. It’s going on our shopping list and we betcha that no one will be hoarding it. BOL
Mom says there is plenty on the shelves. Gramma loves liverwurst sandwiches too, but my mom won’t even try it, so we get it all when she buys it.
Okay, Bailie! Love simple recipes and EVERYONE in our house loves liverwurst, so I guess I should order it by the case?? So Mom and dad can have some unbaked. And… maybe get a new, larger refrigerator in which to store the baked goodies?
You can split the roll of liverwurst and bake half and leave the other half for the humans. Our human won’t eat it, so it is all for us.
What a great job. I’m sure our Little Bit would have loved these treats.
Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday. My best to your siblings and your wonderful mom. β₯
I don’t know any dog that wouldn’t love liverwurst!
Thanks for sharing these delicious looking treats. The chef looks like they were such a big help with preparing and taste testing the finished product. We are going to give this a shot this upcoming weekend. We hope you are doing well and having a fun day.
Bone Appetit! I’m sure your pup will love them!
WOW. Now that’s easy enough that even I can make them. Now I just to learn how to use my stove. No joke, my appliances were brand new when I bought my coop and I have used the stove.
Just need the oven, can’t be that hard, I hope!
OMD…they look delicious Baillie!!

They are super yummy. We just finished some training and had them as treats…mmmmm…
Oh, Luke is definitely on board with these! And I love how simple it is; because Luke would not do it himself….boys, am I right???
Boys are not always very handy in the kitchen, but these are so easy, anyone with a knife and an oven can make them.
I know some pups who love the treats. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe and healthy.
I think most pups would love liverwurst in any form!
Yummy! We love simple recipes that taste great.
This one is definitely both!
What a clever idea! We’re gonna have huMom make us some of these tasty treats.
