Today I’m taking you along on my winter walk on New Years Day with my mom! It was a beautiful day, cold, sunny, and lots of fresh snow from the last little storm. Mom and I didn’t see a lot of people out and about which we also like.
Our original walking spot didn’t work out because it hadn’t been plowed. This was our second choice, but it is very similar to the other place, quiet with lots of woods and water (which is frozen now). Behind me you can see a nice skating rink. I don’t skate, but it looks fun for the humans. Can you tell I see a squirrel in a nearby tree?
This park has a lot of picnic areas and shelters, but oddly no one is having picnics at this time of the year. The tables are all covered in fresh snow, so I decided to stand on one. See my beard is starting to turn into a snowball too. Too much sniffing in the snow I guess.
Here I am, sitting on the frozen lake but just a few feet in. We are not very knowledgeable about how thick the ice is and we don’t want to fall through. A lot of people are out on other parts of the lake ice fishing, but we prefer to stay near the shore.
The benches along the way were also snow covered. I guess no one wants to sit in snow, or clean the snow off to sit down. For me it is fun to hop up on benches and tables if they are not too high. Actually, it is a winter walk, so we hope to have a lot of snow covered things along the way.
Of course, going off road is the best place to sniff out some critters. I didn’t see any, but I could smell they had been in the area. It was a fun little walk with my Mom, and then we got to go home, warm up, and have some snacks!

next time sou maybe will see them…. we love places without people… it seems in this odd time we all become hermits ;O)
Mom isn’t big on a lot of people anyway, so not seeing any makes her happy. We all love people.
What a great way to start the New Year
We did lots of walking on New Years Day, and we loved it.
WOW, that sure looks cold but you sure look on alert for those tree critters. Go get those paws all warmed up!
It wasn’t too cold out and the sun was shining. I’ll do anything to find those critters.
What a wonderful walk! I love your final picture the best; and I think you were smart to not go too far out on the lake.
We don’t go on lakes much in the winter, so we don’t know if or where they are really safe. There is plenty of other space to walk but it is fun to step on the lake just a few feet in.
I know how you love the snow and I’m glad you take me along on your walks. It’s the only way I see snow.
Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week. Scritches to all your siblings and my best to your mom. β₯
Thank you. We sure do love snow and cold it is much nicer for all of us than summertime. Mom isn’t a fan of summer either. Enjoy your first week of the year.
So beautiful…the snow and you! I do have a question to ask, Madison. Here it is. Does your behind get cold sitting on the snow and ice? Inquiring minds want to know. XOXO, Sparkle
No, I actually go out in the yard and just sit to watch the world go by. Only if it is below zero, then it kind of gives my little behind a freezer burn feeling.
Oh our goodness! What an awesome walk and such great photos!! That snow looks fabulous. My brother looooves snow and would be just like you– sniffing, jumping on benches and getting all icy! You lucky dog! have a great day — your friend Lilly
We all love the snow, thankfully, and Mom too. We would gladly trade our summer for another winter.
Terrific Walk! Poor Cinnamon has to stick to the streets in our village in the winter as the trails are too icy right now. Do you get snowballs in your furs? When the snow is right, Cinnamon gets snowballs in the furs on her belly and legs.
If it is wet snow, I become a snowball and we all have to come inside and defrost. Lately the snow has been light and fluffy, so no snowballs.
Brrrr! Those are wonderful photos of you in that winter wonderland!
We all love it out in the cold. It is a lot of fun.
Brrrrr don’t your feet get cold? Pretty place to walk…now run inside and get warm!
My feet are not cold at all. Only if it is below zero they sometimes hurt, so we have to wear shoes but we are loving the winter.
lovely magical walk in the snow. Just way too cold for us!!! Our mom says that snow is wonderful to LOOK at, but she never wants to live in it again.
There is something for everyone! We would rather have more winter and no summer as none of us, including our mom, like the heat.
What a beautiful hike and we just love the way your pink harness looks against all the white snow!
Thank you. I love being pink girl.
Brrrr! I think you must be part polar bear.
Maybe our whole family is because Mom loves it too.
What a fun and beautiful walk for you and your mom, Madison!
Thank you. It was a nice surprise on a beautiful day.
A lovely day for a walk-about!
It was beautiful. The sunshine makes it feel so warm too.
nothing better than a sunny, snowy day on New Years Day! Happy Healthy 2021!!
It was a gorgeous day out for a nice walk! Hope your new pup is getting some outside time and nice walks.
We had a very nice walk on New Year’s Day too. Luckily we have gotten a couple small snowstorms so have some snow on the ground again!
A little snow is more for you I think. We would love another big storm, but there is nothing on the horizon yet. We are just happy to have snow.
