Who is a world traveling puppy? I am, of course, Emma! I’ve been posting puppy photos of myself on my Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts on #ThrowbackThursday for some time now and everyone loves them. I thought it would be fun to do a blog post about my puppyhood. Sadly, Mom wasn’t a blogger at the time, so photos are scarce, but we have some good ones. If you look in my archives section in November and December 2011, you will find more posts about my early years.
If you are a new friend, you may not know, I was born in England. My real name is Debucher Baguette. My mom flew to England to pick me up the day I turned nine weeks old. The photo above was taken while Mom and I were waiting for our plane to take us to my new home in St. Peter-Ording, Germany. It’s my last photo in my homeland. I was so tiny, I was able to fit under the seat on the airplane! Hard to believe I was so tiny, yet old enough to leave my five siblings and my dog parents behind to start a new life.
This is a photo of my new home in Germany. I had a huge yard, heated tile flooring, and a thatched roof. This photo was taken about two years before I moved in, when it was a brand new house. Most of the windows came down to the ground which made it easy for me to look out.
I really changed since I was a little one. The above photo was taken when I was ten weeks old. My furs were so very dark. I guess my color just faded away in time! I did already have the tan spot right above my nose, though.
Food wasn’t a big thing for me, but I did have a typical puppy belly. I love the black freckles in my furs. My dog daddy has a lot of freckles. Being a proper British girl, I already knew at the tender age of eleven weeks to cross my legs and not expose myself!
Mom says my “look” at thirteen weeks should have been a real sign of things to come. You can see in my expressive eyes, I’m going to be a real personality to reckon with!
Katie and I became real tight about a week after I arrived. In this photo of us wrestling, you can see how much I trust her. What sane pup would stick their entire head in the mouth of a Kuvasz? I guess I wasn’t really thinking clearly yet!
By the time I was six months old, I had the beach bum lifestyle down pat! We lived right on the North Sea Coast and I was out on the beach almost every day. I loved the water, digging in the sand, and finding disgusting washed up stuff to eat.
Katie and I spent hours wandering the twelve kilometer long beach with Mom. There was always something new to discover, and we often found friends to hang out with and play with. It was a “grand” time.
Around the time I was nine months old, I visited a groomer for the first time. This shot was taken in our backyard by some pretty rose bushes right after the grooming appointment. Even at just nine months old, my furs had really started to fade in color.
This was one of our last times at the beach with Katie’s best friend Kenai. Kenai’s mom took this photo of us three stooges. Can you tell I’m the crazy, wild puppy with two mature lady dogs? Kenai was always so nice to me despite my wild side. Mom doesn’t miss much about Germany, but she wishes she could take Katie and I back to Ordinger Strand. Katie and I had so much fun there.
We have no photos of our journey to the USA but I was ten months old when we moved. We drove from our house in Germany, to Belgium, and then the Netherlands to get a direct flight from Amsterdam to Chicago. Having worked for the airline for years, Mom did not want us changing planes, ever, too risky! Once we landed in Chicago, we drove to Minneapolis. The first photo we have in the USA was this one of Katie and I at Lake Calhoun. Once again, I’m a wet mess!
Two months and five countries later, this world traveling puppy turned a year old. We had a little party, and as you can see, I was enjoying myself. I have become much more serious over the years, but I do still enjoy having lots of fun.
Today Iβm joining the Barks and Bytes Blog Hop hosted by 2 Brown Dawgs and Heart Like a Dog! Join up and share in the fun, or just visit a few new blogs!
Love reading your story, Germany looks amazing! Look at how dark you were! I love this picture where Katie looks like she is giving you the mouth to mouth! π
I wasn’t thinking putting my head into her mouth, but I survived!
Emma that was interesting to read about “the early months”. I agree St. Peter Ording is worth a visit, the beach is pawsome! My mommas friend once loved Hard Krueger jr. and they watched all epawsodes of Gegen den Wind, while the friend drooled for that guy my mom drooled for the beach and the wonderful area…
Mom hat in den Gegen den Wind Halb Marathon in 2005 gelaufen. Jedes Jahr gibts den Gegen den Wind Triathalon auch. Die Straende sind toll! Ording war unsere lieblings Strand aber alle waren wunderschoen.
Love this story. You were the cutest puppy and turned in a beautiful lady!
Mom says it is a good reminder to enjoy Bailie and her puppy antics as she may end up being serious like me in time. We grow up way too fast.
We love this! What an adorable puppy you were, Emma, and it was really fun to learn more details about your early life. You had a lot of excitement with all the moving and flying, for such a young dog. We especially love that photo of you with Katie and Kenai – what great memories!
The photo of Katie, Kenai, and me is one of Mom’s favorites of all time from Germany. We really spent so much time on that beach and so often with Kenai and her mom. It was a lot of fun.
It’s kind of ironic you came from Germany and ended up i Minnesnowta, and I was born in Minnesnowta and ended up in Florida. My colors have also faded on my furs. You were a beautiful baby, and now you are a beautiful, wise GBGV! XOXO Sparkle
Mom says she wants her next GBGV to stay dark, but we are not sure if that is possible to predict or not. Bailie faded too and we thought she would be dark.
Great story and beautiful pictures! Thank you for sharing. You were soon cute!
Thanks. I had quite a busy first year but I survived.
What a fun look back. The north sea beach looks wonderful. Thanks for joining the hop!
We don’t miss much about Germany, but we do miss those beaches.
Such a world traveler Emma! I think its a big deal because I’ve been to Vegas and DC! Mom isn’t familiar where you were at in Germany, it almost seemed more like England. Love Dolly
Our town is up on the northern border just about an hours drive to Denmark. Many things in town are Danish and many people still speak Danish. The thatched roof home design comes from Denmark too. The English also have similar thatched roof homes.
What an adventurous youth you were Emma!! Although we have been all around the US, we have never been out of the country or on an airplane!
Smileys!
Dory, Jakey, Arty & Bilbo
My first year was quite a ride. No wonder I like to be mellow these days! I’ve covered 18 states and my goal is a minimum of 25. Traveling is always a lot of fun!
What an awesome journey! That house in Germany looks straight out of a movie, and the beach was gorgeous.
It was a beautiful setting where we lived and we had tons of fun, but Mom is happy to be back in the US. Life in Germany is very different. Most people don’t realize how hard it is unless you live outside a big city somewhere. The whole culture is different but it was a good experience for ten years for Mom.
Oh, Emma, please post more wonderful pictures of your travels. Granny and I enjoyed these soo much!
Love from Jolie Amie and Texas Granny
Thank you. I wish I had more photos of everything from when I was young, but it wasn’t until shortly before I started blogging that Mom started taking photos of everything. I’m sure I will come up with another fun post idea with travel soon.
Oh Emma what an adorable baby you were
Snorts
Lily & Edward
I know, and then I grew up and turned into a dog! LOL!
We love seeing the itty bitty you and sure enjoyed reading all about the famous you!
My puppyhood was pretty fun and interesting I have to say!
What a wonderful start to life you had and you were just such a cutie patootie little puppy π
I started experiencing stuff right off the bat, and I still love excursions and traveling to new places.
Our house in Germany brings back so many wonderful memories of our time in Neu Ulm. We didn’t know about Doodles back then – they would have loved it too. Thanks of sharing your puppyhood with us.
I never went to Neu Ulm but Mom was there a few times and I think Katie may have gone there since she lived in southern Germany for a while.
This just made my whole day! You ladies looked so happy playing on the beach, you’re clearly easygoing because you feel the same way running in the snow! Every time I see your puppy pics I’m also amazed how dark you were, two of my pooches started out dark brown and turn tan too. I agree, more travel posts!
I used to say I faded because of all the sun, but Bailie faded too and wasn’t on the beach, so I had to change my story.
Wow Emma, I knew you had flown to Germany from England, but had no idea you visited those other countries as well.
It’s a darn good thing you like traveling and do it well. And I think that was super smart of your mom to get a direct flight. I can’t imagine how stressful it would be flying with a pet that was switching planes!
Thank you so much for joining us today on the blog hop!
I do love traveling, sniffing, and seeing new places. I’m off to Iowa in the next two months and then it’s Phoenix in June! Mom would never let a pet have a flight transfer, there is way too much risk involved. She didn’t want us to fly at all, but swimming across the Atlantic wasn’t really an option! We made it and now we don’t have to fly anymore. We just drive.
OMD! You were such an adorable baby girl β₯ β₯ β₯ I love your house in Germany, too. We have a gazillion more photos of me since we started blogging. BOL! XXOO, Bentley
Mom thought at the time she was taking a lot of pictures, but she wasn’t. I wish we had airport photos, just landed in the US photos etc, but we don’t. We will survive somehow without them.
I love seeing puppy pictures of you. Hard to believe you were so little.
I was pretty tiny at 9 weeks old, but I grew like a weed in no time.
Oh my goodness, you were the Most adorable puppy!! At first glance I thought, did she have another pup named Emma?? Your fur is so different now – but just as pretty! These photos are all fabulous, I love them all. What a beautiful little house and a beach to run on – I can’t believe you don’t miss it! I feel like I wanna move into that sweet house near the beach tomorrow, LOL!!
Love & Biscuits,
Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them
It was a fun time, but Mom doesn’t want to live abroad anymore. Life in the US is so much easier!
Wow! You are one of the most traveled pooches that I know! π How cool!
I do get around quite a bit.
What a life Emma! I like your house in Germany. It has a cool roof. I guess we don’t have roofs like that around here.
I doubt they would be legal in the US because of the fire risk, but they are super good for insulation!
Luved seein your puppy pics!
Thank you. Mom and I always enjoy going back and looking at them.
Wow, those are some great photos! I love your line about being a proper British girl even as a puppy.
Thank you. Mom tells me I have a lot of British in me whatever that means.
What a fun look back! I enjoyed seeing puppy Emma and where it all began!
Thank you. I have had a pretty good life so far and that first year has been a tough one to top as far as adventures.
Oh, Emma, you were such an adorable puppy! And an international jet setter at such a young age!! I loved seeing all the photos, especially that one of you with your head in Katie’s mouth! That is true sisterly love and trust! My grandparents came to the USA from Germany when they were young, but I’ve never been there. I would love to visit one day; but it may have to wait for my next life. I love your house there on the North Sea coast!
Mom would love to take us back for a few days, but that won’t happen since she never wants her pets to fly unless is is an absolute necessity. It was a fun time for sure.
I can certainly understand your Mom’s trepidation about letting her pets fly anywhere. Heck, most airlines these days can’t keep track of its human passengers, let alone their pets in the cargo areas.
There are just so many factors besides missing connections, the heat, the cold, the wrong flight, the carrier falling and breaking open. Scary stuff.
Your puppy hood was great, thanks for re sharing it with us. The photos are great!
That first year was pretty amazing. I’m a lucky dog.
