What’s up with the bubble wrap? Is this a new fashion trend? Why am I all packed in with bubble wrap? There is a good reason, trust me!Before I get into the reason for my new outfit, do you know why bubble wrap was even invented? In 1957, engineer Al Fielding and Swiss inventor Marc Chavannes came up with the idea for textured wallpaper, which was simply bubble wrap. The wallpaper failed miserably but it sure makes a great packing wrap!
Now for my story. My birthday is almost here, and more than anything, almost more than wabbits, but not quite, I love nose work. This year, I’ve had bad luck trying to get a spot in trials. Bailie has gotten into almost every trial she has entered, and I’ve gotten a place on endless waitlists. This weekend Bailie got into the Level 2 Interior Element Specialty Trial right here about ten minutes from our house. Me? I got like number twenty four on the waitlist.
Imagine the excitement when we got an email about a week ago stating that enough people had pulled out that my number was up on the waitlist. Mom had to decide to either leave Bailie in, or let me have her spot. We can’t both run because the hides are secret. Bailie is in three trials next weekend, and being my birthday next week, she agreed to let me take her spot! I am thrilled to my ears! Happy early birthday to me from Bailie.
Now for the other piece of information. The past year, I have had a knack for getting injured right before I trial. The first time, it was a nightmare as I would not even do nose work after my first search. In July, the day before my NW3 Trial, I suddenly could barely walk, I was drooling and shaking in pain, hiding behind plants at home, Mom was really worried. She raced me to my chiropractor who adjusted me, but I was still not doing well, so Mom raced me to the vet. By the evening I was much better and the next day I had my best NW3 performance ever!
Enter Tuesday this week. Out of the blue, I started walking funny, hiding behind plants, didn’t want to eat, and Mom said, “oh no”, not again. The first plan was to see if I felt better as the day went on, but then on a short walk, she saw blood on my back leg. After looking closely, she raced me to the vet. I hid under the chairs because I’m scared at the vet.
We still don’t know what exactly happened to me, but I had a table tennis ball sized abscess or cyst on my back end that had suddenly appeared and ruptured. I got some kind of Brazilian shave on my private areas, so embarrassing, to give the vet a better look. It was nasty! They cleaned me up and sent me home with medicine. By the next morning, I was much better. I get cysts a few times a year, but this one was big, painful, and fast.
Long story short. To protect me from any further injuries or mishaps prior to my trial on Sunday, Mom wrapped me up in bubble wrap to keep me safe. Bailie also said if I can’t trial because of an injury, she will never give me her spot again. I’m a bit warm in this outfit, but I feel safe and I’m really looking forward to doing some nose work with Mom on Sunday without the bubble wrap outfit!
Happy weekend!
Oh ny goodness what a time. Stay in that bubble wrap!! Your mom is right!! your doodle friend Dash
I feel much safer in bubble wrap, but I feel rather silly!
Emma I hope you are back to 100% nose work and you can start on sunday. The mama said she knows that bubble wrap feeling, she always would do that before a diy project and before I enter an event… some days before the great moment we always had to see da vet by now… it is like a crazy ritual…
btw: how great that you are a member of the smart viro club too… like me I celebrate my furst birthday tomorrow , yay!
I will have a photo of me on my first birthday on my birthday! Enjoy your first one, it is always the best because it is the first! Happy early birthday!
Stay in that bubble wrap, good luck on your trial.
I think it is a good idea mom had.
how pathetic can you look< Emma! Heal, good luck this weekend, and thank you, Bailie, for letting Emma have your spot. I have not been online much as my mom has been feeling poorly too. We are in Irma's path. We are ready, but I am acting extra high strung and nervous as I can only sense something bad is about to happen..We are hunkering down with our whole house generator and hoping for the best. XOXO, Sparkle
Where are you located Sparkle?
I’m so sorry to hear your mom isn’t feeling well and even worse, Irma is coming your way. I guess it is good because you can prepare, but at least when we have tornadoes, there is not time to worry because it happens so fast. We hope you stay safe and get through it without much of any damage. Be careful! Maybe put some bubble wrap around the exterior of your house and tape it down with duct tape??? We will be thinking of you and praying for a good outcome and that your mom feels better.
Baaaaaawaaaaahaaaa. Your mom is too funny.
So sorry dat you have dis cyst problem but happy dat you are on da mend.
Wags,
Ranger
Yeah, it is not fun to have this problem, but it is getting much better which is a good thing. Mom takes good care of me, why else would anyone wrap their dog in bubble wrap?
Oh Emma, thank you so much for the history lesson. My mom’s friends want to wrap HER in bubble wrap because she keeps falling and hitting her head and breaking bones. If they do put her in bubble wrap, I will eat her out of it because i like to hear the bubbles pop. I hope you make it to the trial and do excellent! Your friend Elbe.
Hopefully I am protected now. My mom is accident prone too, but she is so used to it, it doesn’t phase her.
First, I’m glad you feel better. And second…stay that way. Lol
I will try my bubble wrapped best!
Bubble wrap? That’s brilliant! So happy you are ok and good luck! xoxo
Mom and I both need it as she is so accident prone too!
You might like a bubble bath too!
I’ve tried that, but bubbles are weird things.
Oh, Emma, we would definitely wrap you in bubble wrap too! We are glad you are getting through the cyst problem OK, and we’ll be thinking of you this weekend. Good luck!!
It was a tough 24 hours or so, but then I felt really good again.
Oh gosh Emma, that’s scary! I’m glad Mom was paying attention and got you looked at quickly. I do hope you are feeling so much better now, and I’m sure you’ll kill it in NW!
My mom sure panicked when she realized what was bothering me. We have great vets and they got things under control, thankfully.
We have our paws crossed that you stay safe, we know you will do great at your nose trial!!
xoxo

I know I can do nose work, but I have this human team member with a knack for messing things up!
Bubble wrap sounds like a brilliant idea. Can’t afford any more boo-boos or hiding behind plants. Good luck.
Love and licks,
Cupcake
I’ve had a knack for having odd things happen before trials lately!
Actually you look very cute in bubble wrap. Be safe and good luck in your trial.
Thank you.
That is quite the stylish outfit! Hope the abscess is healing nicely and that you have a great nose work trial!
I’m not sure it is my idea of style, but it might keep me safe.
Oh my sweetie! Please take good care of yourself and know that I love you to the moon & back.
Thank you, my Bentley. Hope you are surviving in prison with your brother.
OMDoodle – I had no idea.Stay in the bubble wrap, go in your crate and don’t come out until it’s time for trials. Paws crossed and hugs from the Boys.
It was a pretty nasty day when that thing happened, but it left about as quick as it came and I’m feeling good.
How nice of your sister to give you her spot in the trials. I hope both your sisters are also looking for ways to keep you safe.
Luckily, Bailie doesn’t care about nose work as much as I do, so giving up her spot was alright. I can’t imagine ever giving up a spot I had.
Paws crossed you are able to compete and win! Feel better fast.
I had a fun morning of nose work, but Mom messed up big time forgetting what I had already found, so no title, but I got a leg at least.
What a great bday present to you I hope you did well! Sorry about your ruptured cyst, I bet it dies feel better now.
It was a rough 24 hours, but it is definitely on the mend, thank goodness.
Stay healthy, Emma!!!!! I’m glad that the cyst came and went fast enough. Getting to do NW is a great birthday present!
I’m amazed that you have so many nosework trials near you. We have almost none. If we had lots and lots, I could go check out the scene with Shyla to see if I thought that she could handle it. So far, the closest one was 300 miles away. Too far to “drop in” to check it out!
Our club, mom is on the committee, hosts about four a year and a couple other local groups host a few, which is nice, but we still travel 5-6 hours to get to trials because they are so full, we can’t always get a spot.
Good luck with the trial and Happy Barkday.
Thank you.
