Sewing Machine Day? Who knew there was a special day for these special machines? June 13th is Sewing Maching Day. Sadly, sewing in general is becoming a lost are with the new generations.
My Gramma has been sewing her entire life and is super talented. She taught my mom to sew as a little girl. Mom can’t imagine life without her sewing machine! Usually my mom uses the sewing machine to repair clothes, make curtains, or other household items.
I learned to sew from my mom as well. Although I only dabble in sewing, it does come in handy for repairing our stuffies! Poor stuffies often end up with puncture wounds and missing limbs from too much dog loving. I’m happy to perform magical surgical procedures with my sewing machine. Stuffies are always appreciative of my efforts!
How about you? Do you sew?
Nobody here would be good at operating one of those machines sew you just carry on!
Kitties to like tangling with thread, so we have to be careful with them.
I have a machine that I rarely use. But, when I was downsizing to move, I refused to part with it. I learned to sew on my grandfather’s machine. He had a Singer that you used your foot to make it go.
We don’t use it a lot, but it does get used. Good to have.
I have a sewing machine, but can’t do much more than a straight line with it. I never could make sense of a pattern. My sister on the other hand, is a whiz and very talented.
Mom doesn’t like to sew clothes, but she could if she had to. We use it to sew more fun stuff.
My mom used to make all my clothes. Unfortunately, her talen was not passed on.
Gramma sewed a ton of clothes for my mom and her brother when they were kids too.
Our Mom likes to sew – or says she does; has a whole room just fur it!
We have a combo sewing/toy room. Very practical.
I have a sewing machine and I’ve made a few quilts, but I just don’t really enjoy sewing–so mostly, I just find things on Pinterest I like and then pass them on to my mom or my aunt in hopes that they’ll end up under the Christmas tree π
That is some seriously clever thinking.
the mama and the sewing machine are deadly enemies LOL but maybe we should celebrate today… as a new beginning ;O)
Some people might be better not sewing…you know, wink, wink…
Yes, love sewing and I make a line of fabric dog collars, so my machine gets a lot of use!
You would be doing a lot of sewing with that!
You are full of talent Emma! We donβt sew here. Mom can sew on a button or maybe sew up a ripped stuffy but beyond that…. nope. Great post Emma! Happy Sewing Machine Day! your doodle friend Dash
Sometimes Mom sews new dog bed covers, that is good stuff.
Ugh, no, I hate sewing! My mother hated it too, so that’s probably why, I didn’t have anyone to teach me. I remember taking Home Ec in high school and we had to do a sewing project. I think I barely passed. LOL!
So no stuffies get repaired here. Maybe we could send them to you, Emma? π
My mom took sewing in Home Ec and it was so basic, the teacher had to give her a special project to make it challenging.
I have a sewing machine but i can never set my tension correctly. It drives me crazy but I love to sew.
The tension is quite important. Mom goes in sewing phases.
My mother tried to teach me how to use her sewing machine and I had to use one in home ec at school but I never really paid attention. I just sew by hand now…badly!
That is better than not being able to sew at all!
My mommy taught Home Economics for 38 years! She loved teaching sewing more than the other stuff. She says she could fix a sewing mistake. XOXO, Sparkle
How cool. Mom was always bored to death in school sewing class because she could already sew. Gramma fixes mistakes around here.
My momma sews me dresses!
Your mom is amazing at sewing your dresses!
Our Mama culd sew if she had to…but it’s not her favorite. She would much rather crochet… π
xoxo,
Jakey, Arty & Rosy
Knitting, crocheting, smocking, those are all super cool! Mom tried some of them but never got into them. Sewing is where she stuck.
I used to sew, and then I had to have my neck fused. Now it hurts too much to look down… but I still have my mom’s antique sewing machine! You are so lucky that your mom sews!
It sounds painful just hearing about your neck! We are glad she can sew.
My Mum LUFFS her sewing machine butt I’m not allowed in her sewing room…..like that stops me hehe!
Loves and licky kisses

We share our toy room with the sewing machine, so no ban for us!
I had my Mom’s sewing machine for a long time but it “died”, and because it was older than I was, parts to repair it were no longer available. I think my Dad ended up taking it to Goodwill after he bought me a new one. I haven’t used the new one in a long time, though.
We use ours here and there, but it is nice to have it when it is needed.
Sweet! I sew a bit too.
It’s good to know how to sew.
