Two weeks ago, I earned my first Advanced Title in AKC Scent Work. Bailie and I went to an AKC Scent Work Trial at the school we train at. AKC is a little bit like NACSW Element Trials. You can compete at higher levels even if you don’t have a complete title for the lower level. I’m missing my novice exterior title legs, but I can compete in advanced in all three other elements I have passed in novice. Exterior trials are hard to find, so I will have to wait for spring. Bailie has her Novice Title, so she can compete in all the advanced elements.
Saturday seemed to be long and boring for us. I did my two advanced interior runs before 8 am, and then was done for the day. Bailie did her advanced container runs around noon, and then she was done. We were both a bit bored hanging out in our kennels while Mom was doing her volunteer coordinator work.
Day one ended with me getting Q’s on both my interior runs, and Bailie getting one Q on her containers. We posed for a photo, but Bailie was in protest. She claimed it wasn’t fair she only had one ribbon. Not my problem, I’m not the one who failed the simple task of alerting on the correct container.
I had Mom take a snap of this sign. We think it is a good reminder when you are doing sports with your pup. A lot of times the humans get so caught up in the competitiveness, they forget these simple points.
Sunday was a better day because we each got to do a few more “test” searches to keep us from getting so bored. As far as Q’s, it was like Groundhog Day. I passed both my interior searches and had my title by 8 am, Bailie only passed one container search. I am happy to report, I now have an SIA – Scent Work Interior Advanced Title. It’s getting to the point where my AKC name is almost longer than I am! Mom is proud of my hard work, and I’m proud of myself. Bailie, well, she doesn’t really care if she gets titles or not, so no worries about her. NACSW is our main focus for nose work, but we will keep doing AKC trials for more fun, and they are good practice opportunities. There won’t be any trials around here again until spring, so we will be doing other sports until sniffing starts up again.
By the way, my mom wrote an article as a guest contributor for 4Knines, our favorite car seat covers and cargo liners for years. We would all love it if you would pop over real quick to have a read. Β It’s about dogs and Christmas tree safety.
Congratulations! You are both SuperStars in my book!
Mom says I’m a shooting star, Bailie is just Bailie, but she is happy the way she is.
So proud of you both.
Thank you. Mom is real proud of me.
Good job you two!
We keep on sniffin’ and love it.
Sounds like a great weekend! I was worried Barley would be upset that Rye had more ribbons for the weekend than she did–but I think she was just so happy that we were doing something together that she didn’t protest about having fewer ribbons at all!
Bailie only complained because she was bored. Sunday we split the dog in white job, so Bailie got a couple extra searched in which made her happy. She isn’t real competitive. I’m like my mom, in it to win it!
Congrats to da bestest noses of da while slice earth ;O) we love that you have clear signs for your events… we had a green sign with a chicken/berd/goose on it and an arrow… the reason for many f-words while circling around the exposition area…;O)))
Our friend Tanya made the signs. She did a super job!
Congratulations girls!
Thank you.
Congratulations! You guys are so accomplished! The collies need to step up their game!
We put a lot of time and effort into our sports since we love them so much. Trialing is a lot of fun.
Awww, you two are so adorable. I linked you to Awww Mondays. The code works now, just so you know.
I love that sign. Sometimes the humans act like fools. It’s embarrassing. Let’s have fun is key.
Have a woof woof day and week. My best to your mom. β₯
My mom is very competitive and had trouble just enjoying doing the sports, but she has mellowed down with some time and now enjoys doing the sport, but ribbons do make her real happy! Thanks for linking us up. We plan to be on your linky Wednesday.
You two sure are amazing! Congrats!!!
Mom runs us ragged, but we don’t mind as it is a lot of fun.
Congratulations on your successes! You girls have your own personalities and ways of doing things and that is so great! It keeps it more interesting for your Mom. π
This is very true. Mom says I’m very much like Emma with my work, and she loves that about me. Getting used to free spirit Bailie is tough, but also a good lesson for life.
Congrats Madison(and Bailie) we love watching the togetherness you girls and your Mama share during these events!
xoxo,
Rosy, Jakey & Arty
Mom calls us her buddy dogs. We are a great threesome and we have a lot of fun.
Wooooo hoooooooooo!!!! Huge congratulations!!
Thank you. I’m pretty proud of myself.
You Girls are something else!!! Way to go team “Joy-bai-son”
We love our sports and competitions. It is so much fun, and ribbons are the best.
Way to go, what a great weekend it was.
Bailie should have had a title, but that is Bailie. It was still a fun weekend.
We are so proud of y’all. You both look so cute in your kennels. Those are really nice. I love the sign. One similar to that should be at EVERY school sporting event as a reminder to overzealous parents!
My mom used to be pretty intense about competitions too, but she has toned that down and is enjoying just competing with us, no matter how we do. Sadly, she knows how precious our time is together and how it can be snatched away in the blink of an eye.
Good for you! You all are really putting your noses to the grindstone to get those titles!
We have been, but now things will quiet down for a while. We have barn hunt next weekend where we could title, but no more weekly titles. We need to expand our house to make space for all the winnings first, LOL!
Congratulations on a great job!
Thank you. I had so much fun searching and was also quite proud of my accomplishment.
