May is Chip Your Pet Month. One might think most pets have microchips these days, but that is really not the case. Just having a chip isn’t always enough either.
There are different companies that make and support microchips. We go with the one our veterinarian uses and that happens to be AKC Reunite. Mom paid to have us chipped, and then we registered our chips with their service. We use the free service, but if you want something more fancy, you can upgrade and pay a yearly fee.
Of course, getting chipped is just one part of a chip helping a lost pet be found. The other super important part is making sure all your information is up to date. It would be tragic if your lost pet was found only to find out the address and phone numbers on file were no longer current. If you move or change phone numbers remember to update your chip provider with your new details.
AKC Reunite is the largest pet recovery service. We are not receiving anything for talking about them, but Mom likes them. Emma and Katie had different chip servicers, but Mom didn’t like them as much. We all wear out ID tag, but we also have a chip tag. Sure, someone can find out we have a chip using a reader, but it is another step of security to have a tag with our information. The reverse side has our name, chip number, and AKC Reunite phone number.
Mom loves the variety of chip tags there are to choose from. We all have the same tag, just in our own color. She also orders a silencer for us to keep the edges from clanking around. The super cool thing is that they glow in the dark too!
It doesn’t matter what kind of chip your pet has, they simply need a chip. Being Chip Your Pet Month, you should make sure your pet’s chip is working correctly, and that your information is up to date. A pet can never have too much ID, right?
A happy pet is a chipped pet because their chances of being found should they get lost are so much better! They can have your people call my people!
PS: Thank you to Zoolatry for creating the badge.
My GBGV Life is happy, so weβre joining Comedy Plus for Happy Tuesday!
So important to have your family members chipped.
It is. Mom should get one too, maybe.
No cat leaves our shelter where we volunteer without a chip! Every shelter around here insists on all animals being chipped. Keep barking about how important it is until everyone gets he message.
I think around here it is the same way, or if they are not chipped you only have a small window to get it done at your own vet.
Mine are all chipped and I chip my puppies before they leave. Always a great reminder to get your pet chipped.
We are usually chipped by our breeder before we leave too. Get chipped and make sure the contact info is up to date!
Great post, girls! I got my chip when I was just a wee-Molly.
We all did too and don’t even remember it.
My Alex is chipped. They did it when I adopted him.
That is the way it should be π
I have a chip on my shoulder and so does Puffin! XOXO, Sparkle
Good for you girls.
We are all chipped. Even Clarence the cat that is not allowed outside.
Our felines are chipped too and are indoor cats. Cat bro Bert does attempt to run away from home frequently, so it is good to know he is chipped.
Our Little Bit was chipped and tagged. I’ve returned many a pup with calling in the number on their tag too. It’s the right thing to do.
Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday. Scritches to the pups and my very best to your smart mom. β₯
Mom has found a lot of loose dogs and none have ever had tags. One had a rabies tag, so she called the vet, who called the owners. Tags make it so much easier.
Chipping really is important and so is keeping the info updated too. Great post!
A chip with outdated info is useless, so both things are necessary.
it is law here to chip dogs and cats… and it is the best way to find the way back home when someone gets lost…
Emma and Katie were chipped in Europe and in the US. Europe has a different system, but it works the same way.
Chipping happens to us as soon as we get home from our breeder. I have an International chip, and a USA chip as back up with my mom’s info. We use ALMOST HOME. It might not be the best, but it is a good company.
Chablis
I think Katie and Emma had those chips, but they also had the European ones. A chip and current info is what matters most.
We all have been chipped since we came to live with our folks. Mama can’t wait for our Vet to get back to normal again. All our annual visits(when they check our chips) have been put on hold(they only see urgent care patients) until this COVID #$%^ is over.

Ours is doing stuff again, but Mom can’t go in with us which makes it scary.
Here in New Zealand , all dogs must be chipped as part of dog registration. It is done at the vet and the documentation must be shown to city council, when dog is registered, by three months. All registered dogs wear a coloured tag that changes each year. It cost about $80 to register a dog annually. However, there are discounts for de-sexing, and being a good dog ie not be picked up by the dog ranger.
Mom says Germany was the same, and licenses were expensive. Here you don’t have to have a license, and if you do it is like $15 a year.
Those silencers are a godsend! Thanks for the PSA; we hate to see lost doggies and know chips work reuniting pets and ‘pawrents.’
They are so important, especially if a dog gets out and lost naked.
Every dog and cat needs to be microchipped and the humans must remember to keep the chip information updated. Great information and I love your collars. They always make me wish I had a female dog. LOL!
Mom always contemplates a male dog because she wants to buy bow tie collars, but then realizes that is not a reason to choose a dog!
