Today we are thankful for several things from the past week. One always has to look for the bright side of things, and also remember that things can change in the blink of an eye.
My first order of business is some good news regarding Mom’s nasty collarbone break. This is a good example of fine one second, needing surgery a second later. It’s been seven and a half weeks since the “incident”, six and a half since surgery. Mom had her appointment with her surgeon Monday and everything looks great!
The x-ray on the left is from the day she broke the bone, and the one on the right is from Monday. Everything is still where it needs to be, and is healing well. Mom already has such good range of motion in her arm, she can completely skip physical therapy! That really makes her happy as she isn’t a therapy fan.
She no longer has to wear a sling, but for six more weeks she needs to be careful with that arm and shoulder, and not lift more than five to ten pounds. Sadly, leaping is also out, but I am determined to give her hugs and kisses. She is teaching me to give half hugs on her left side. It will do until we can leap again.
On the sad news front, Emma’s breeder in the UK passed away last week. It was quite a shock, even though she was around ninety years old. She was still completely active and had delivered a litter of five puppies right before she passed away in her home. Vivien was huge in the dog world and did so much for the GBGV breed. Mom is one of the few who does sports with GBGV’s and Vivien found it so wonderful. Over the years she featured us in some of her newsletters and on her website. She will be sorely missed by hounds and humans alike.
Yesterday we found out Mom’s favorite veterinarian passed away. Mom brought her dogs and cats to her for many years until she left and moved to Washington State. She wasn’t that old, and we don’t know what happened. Mom says she was the best vet she has ever had in the USA. Pets lost a good one with her passing.
We are thankful for Mom’s healing and for having such wonderful people in our lives.

It is rather strange knowing Vivien is gone as she messaged with Mom about GBGV’s and sports every couple months. She was an amazing lady. Mom is doing so much better, but it is still hard to wait for things to completely heal. In the moment it seems like forever, but we know it is only a short time in the scheme of things.
I am happy that mom is healing. You could start doing hugs and jumps again. I’m sorry to hear who the passing of your friends
We are working on the side hugs/cuddling, but it is too soon for my leap.
Happy to see Mom is well on the road to healing…I expect her activity over the years (thanks to you 4) gave her a head start on healing too.

Mom is pretty healthy and fit overall, so healing goes pretty well, but it is hard to keep her from doing too much.
It’s amazing how many people touch our lives, we are so sorry that your Mom lost some of those that touched hers.
We are so happy though, that she is healing well and can loose the sling! Before long you’ll be leaping into her arms again!

We are happy the healing is going well. Hopefully the funny feeling in her shoulder area will disappear. It is still slightly numb and Mom isn’t sure if it is that which feels weird or the hardware. She doesn’t want another operation to remove that.

Losing people that have been important in many peoples – and dogs – lives is always difficult.
We are lucky Mom is doing so well and doesn’t even need PT, but we miss the ones we lost unexpectedly.

It is hard to be so gentle with her all the time as we are not used to that but we are all adjusting as needed.
It’s hard to lose those we love, trust and admire, my condolences to all who knew and loved Vivian and the veterinarian.
And hooray for bones knitting and good recovery!
We are super happy the collarbone is behaving itself and we hope it really works on fusing the bones these next six weeks.
Wonderful news about your mom! Love her before and after bone-shots! So sad about Vivien! What a loss! I never met her, but I sure corresponded with her for the last 15+ years. Good vets can be hard to find, Great vets are scarcer than hen’s teeth, so yes, that is another big loss. What do vet’s do in Heaven? I guess just play with all the patients they treated???
This vet left here a few years ago, and Mom has missed her ever since. We don’t know what happened to her but it is sad.
Do you know what happened with Vivien? Heart attack??? stroke???
We don’t know what happened to Vivien, but she was probably around 90. Our guess is she delivered the 5 puppies in the night and then went to sleep herself and didn’t wake up, but we have not heard.
What a fun blog!!! I love all the pics of you. Sending healing thoughts to your mom. And I can totally relate to her losing her good vet. I lost my wonderful vet after COVID when she decided to close up shop after 30 years and go into veterinary research. She was truly the best vet in the world, and I miss her! I’ve used several since then but haven’t found one I would consider my primary vet yet. Still looking!
Mom says a really good vet is really hard to find and we haven’t found another yet.

It is sad about Emma’s breeder but she was around 90 and led a good life. Mom will miss messaging with her. Our vet left four years ago, but Mom always tells us she wishes she was still our vet and now she is gone. At least the collarbone is still with us and doing pretty well.
